  1. I think it's a model 10 made before the model designation was stamped in the crane... As others have opined; i think it is a post-war (...post 1946...) because of the smaller knurled end on the ejector rod... As i remember, the pre-wars were a bigger diameter nob... The knurling looks to be the same size as the ejector rod... The "s" stamp intrigued me.... I found this on another forum, and it makes sense to me: It is part of a post from here: http://www.thehighroad.org/archive/index.php/t-383236.html   Ya need to check the Roy Jinks book to get the "real story"; but i would bet the above is it....  The "s" prefix serial numbers are usually found on large frame smiths (....the "N" frame used to be an "S" frame....)....   Hope this helps... By the way, i love these old smiths too...   leroy
  2. Me too....  I'm like hillary on this one "... i am havin to suspend my belief in reality..." to believe this one... I no more believe that the couple they rounded up are guilty than i believe that i killed cock robin....   Suspicious leroy
  3. Its feigned outrage and theatrics aimed to do exactly what it did... Make friends among his peers and outrage real people like you and me...My guess is that he is lookin for extra work moonlitin for some of these anti-gun clowns and front groups... What happened wuz the timing was wrong...   It worked a bit too well and KU took some well deserved heat...   RE:  The first amendment thing... He is right...   The fact is that nobody cares what this idiot has to say; other than the small percentage of clowns of like mind...I think its interesting that while he likes the First Amendment and hides behind it; he doesn't like the Second Amendment... It's typical liberal hypocrisy and hyper-speech...He's just another clown....   leroy
  4. Welcome..... Glad ta have ya!!!    leroy
  5. Looks to me like KU may be wakin up to the fact that most people dont see it the way ole David does...They also may have figured out that blamin a specific advocacy group law abiding citizens for crimes committed by the insane is devoid of any smidgen of critical thinking, and borders on lunacy; let alone his insane diatribe RE: the NRA sons and daughters...  His wish that "...the sons and daughters of NRA members..." be murdered in like manner smacks of insanity in my personal view...   Let's hope that KU has done this for the right reasons... My personal guess is that they havent; but as others have opined, its a start...  Academia is gonna have to winnow some of these more insane and vocal outliers of society from their ranks; or they are destined to be more irrelevant than they already are...   leroy
  6. I really like Spots idea RE: the 1911...  It could be time for someone to do another run of the colt 1911 re-issues... Like Spots, im a great fan of Sgt. Alvin York.... He is a great American and Tennessee Hero...   leroy
  7. HEHEHEHE... This is good stuff!!! Thanks for sharing....   leroy
  8.   That's the difference between me and you, bro....  They, indeed, have the right to name their child anything they want to name him... I have the right to opine that it's ignorant; and even chuckle a bit about it... Your failure to either understand or even agree seems to be predicated on disagreement with my opinions or actions... So what....We've had these intractable discussions before... The fact is that we live in amerika and we can have differing opinions....They can be expressed in the public forum..... We can even have 'em here (...with the forum moderator's permission, of course...)... I would just agree to disagree if i wuz you....   leroy
  9. I didnt pick up on the fact that it wuz originally a 'last name" thing....  I should have known better...   Here's the "corrected version"...   Multiple ignorant people (...the "real sperm donors", and other "possible sperm donors", it would appear...) do ignorant things, it appears from conception to naming..... Evidently the mother genuinely doesn't know (...or possibly wont tell....) who the father is, and is "stuck" on what the poor baby's last name should be...   Magistrate hears this sad and ignorant request and makes mistake (...possibly because he/or she wuz to intelligent to believe the question at hand....).... After thinkin a bit, comes to the wrong decision...   Ignorant parent appeals and demands her right to be ignorant...   Appeal judge opines that it's america and ya have the right to do ignorant things, including doing them to your kid.... He evidently thought: "... I don't care what ya name him; messiah is ok with me...".   The judge knows (...as you and i know....) that the name is a name; nothin more...   The judge, you, i, and most other folks that see beyond the end of their nose know that namin this kid "messiah" no more makes him a "Messiah" than callin Obama "the messiah" makes him one....   It does, however, demonstrate in grand fashion how breathtakingly ignorant and foolish the parents are here...  Maybe the baby messiah will be able to live up to his great name in the best sense of its use... I hope so; it appears that both the parents, the magistrate, and obama have failed to....   "messiah" leroy opiner on the the baby namin folly...(...corrections in italics...)
  10. Ignorant people (...the parents here...) do ignorant things..... They ignorantly want to name their progeny "messiah"... I aint sure why ya would have to ask the judiciary about that; but it seems that they did...   Magistrate hears their ignorant request and makes mistake (...possibly because he/or she wuz to intelligent to believe the question at hand....).... After thinkin a bit, comes to the wrong decision...   Ignorant parents appeal and demand their right to be ignorant... "messiah" leroy opiner on the the baby namin folly...
  11. I like the maxpedition stuff... We've got a pile of them.  It seems to me that the Condor is about the right size to carry a laptop plus whatever ya put in a briefcase... Take a look at the maxpedition website (...maxpedition.com   ... i think....) and check out what they have and shop around for the best price... We've bought lots of this stuff off e-bay...   leroy
  12. Folks, Eric makes a great point in the post above, as well as TMF's post on "evil".... .  We live in a dangerous world... A world that is rapidly changing for the worst, i think, proving the Darwinist's among us wrong.  We are getting worse, not better; we are getting more technologically advanced; yet more barbaric...    In this country of late it seems we've demanded that, at best; the outliers of society; and, at worst; the insane, unbalanced and the "evil" among us be mainstreamed and given access to places where they would have never been able to in the relatively distant past.... We've deliberately demanded that barriers be applied to see to it that the propensity for this sort of thing is not found in back grounding and profiling potential employees, nor considered when reviewing their actions once hired.  There is no doubt in my mind that the military establishment ignored Nadal Hasan; my bet is that they ignored this guy as well.... .     I say, in the most reasonable kind of way (...it's not kind, because it simply cant be...), if you have a job in the military-industrial complex; you had better keep your life insurance current or keep a weapon handy (....or both...)... We are allowing the folks who may work beside you to be just as dangerous as any battle-hardened jhadist or criminally insane nut, all to give honor to the "god of tolerance"... This grotesque, insane philosophy will not change until there is a house-cleaning at the top of the political class, their advisers, academia, and many in the military-industrial complex...   If i wuz in any location that wuz decreed to be "gun-free"; i would be lookin for another job... If i wuz servin in the military on active duty; i would be thinkin about why i wuz there and wonderin about whether Uncle Sam's social engineering objectives and goals were those i could live with...  I say ya could be in a potential combat zone in the office or the barracks and ya could find yourself unarmed.... I find that unconscionable and un-american....   God deliver us from the fools who believe this is the way secure military, sensitive gubmt installations, schools,or anywhere else, for that matter....Sometimes i think that we are the insane ones cloaking these nincompoops with the authority to order these insane policies to be implemented for "the collective good"....   leroy
  13. ohell makes a good point in the post above...  I have learned (...the hard way, of course...) that it's best to gage every round that goes thru a semiauto (...pistol or rifle...) before it leaves the loading bench.  The gages are in the neighborhood of $25... Dollars well spent... It fixes the jambing and cycling problems for the most part...   leroy
  14. I think that all politicians better pay attention to what is goin on lots of places... Folks are sick and tired of bein sick and tired of these clowns and would-be tyrants...  Used car salesmen and pimps are more well thought of than lots of these ratty sons and daughters of satan... i think that is a good thing....   leroy
  15. CZ:  I sometimes carry my glock 33 (...same size as the 26, different caliber...) in an Allen Miller hip pocket kydex holster.  As to an IWB holster, i have built 3 of the "Quick Assemble Kits" from Old Faithful Holsters; including one for the glock 33... A forum member here, SW40, turned me on to them in a post about IWB holsters.   I think they are the best IWB kydex / leather hybirds ive seen; because they are put together with screws, and not rivets.  Check out this link for details: http://oldfaithfulholsters.com/shop/quick-assemble-kit-inside-the-waistband-hip-gun-holster-kit/   I'm also a big DM Bullard fan too.  They make some excellent leather holsters, some of them "in stock"... I really like their "dual carry"; im thinkin about buyin one for my baby glock myself...  The also have excellent leather pocket holsters...   Hope this helps..   leroy
  16. HEHEHE....   Keep up the good work!!   leroy :usa:

    Build or Buy?

I like the 'build" thing the best; especially the lowers... I like to tinker, and it causes ya to understand just how all this stuff works.  That could come in handy some day.  Like mike and others have opined; the upper buildin thing is a bit more of a problem due to the specialty tools needed.  I like the "build it yourself" thing because ya get exactly what ya want...    leroy
  18. I like these type gages for any semiauto firearm reloading... http://www.midwayusa.com/product/456614/le-wilson-case-length-headspace-gage-223-remington   They will make sure the case geometry is correct before ya load a pile of ammo that ya have to re-do... They are worth every penny of what ya pay for them..   leroy
  19. This is silly:     i'm suggguesting waiting him out and outfoxing him without killin him; nothin more   -- the solution to this problem (...most likely....) did not have to be shootin this old man... What is with this mindset that says that we have to neutralize everything regardless of what it is?   Who the hell is the "we" that are too blind to accept common sense approaches to this sort of thing anyway??   God protect us from this kind of "we" that thinks this is the way to do police work....That evidently was tragically lost on those involved and is apparently being missed by some here...  Again..  Who is in the house?  --- an old man with a gun and the police; nobody else is in danger here....    In my mind; this dammed carryin water for those who have used, at best, poor judgement, and at worst apparently wanted to show the community what defyin the police can mean is unconscionable; ethically, morally, and logically, and no amount of explainin is gonna take that opinion away...  When you carry this to its logical conclusion; the end of everything is to shoot lawbreakers...  I dont know about you, but that dont sound too much like "...protecting and serving...." to me....   This whole thing is rotten; and no amount of lipstick smeared on this pig and whitewashing thru police doublespeak is gonna smooth it out.... I would suggest to you all, that if this is "acceptable police work"; the nazi death camp guards should have never been tried....   Believe what ya will, but this is morally repugnant and ethically bankrupt; police dogma or not...  Ya better be afraid of folks like this...   leroy
  20. Dave:  I aint suggesting a "duty to retreat";  far from it.... Im suggesting thinkin thru the specific situation that is in front of ya; considering all the facts at hand, and commin up (...hopefully...) with a plan that does not include killin anyone.   I do not believe that shooting thru a door when no one gets hurt is grounds for "ending anything immediately"...    The old man wuz stationary, the police were in place... Any potential harm to innocents were minimized... If ya read the accounts, there wuz no one there except the police and the little old man...The neighbors and friends were moved by the police to a safe location...   leroy
  21. I'm still saddened by what i continue to read here...   If ya dig thru the news accounts (....yeah, i know that they can be wrong, deliberately or otherwise...) ya see that this man wuz a 107 year old, legally blind and gimped up old man....  Folks, that IS the heart of the problem here... This little ole man wasn't a murderin drug dealer, mother raper or father stabber, nor a 21 year old junkie blowed up on drugs; he wuz a gimped up little man, aged 107... This man pointed a gun at a couple of his friends because he was evidently distraught, and shot thru a door when the police were interacting with him...  He evidently had some sort of an episode that rendered him terribly confused...    I simply do not agree with the "protocols" and "dogma" that says that once police are called, they are obligated to end the situation they find themselves in by neutralizing (...killin...) whomever they are interacting with immediately... The police did their primary job by protecting those who needed protection by escorting them away from the house.  This old man had no hostages in his house with him, if ya believe the info that is out there.  There wuz no one there but him (...in the room...) and the police... What would be the harm in waiting him out?   A 107 year ole man aint likely to "barricade and boobytrap" anything; especially a crippled up, mostly blind old man...   I simply ask that ya think that one thru for a few minutes...  What was the harm in waiting him out?... There aint a real answer for that one....  It appears that this little ole man's sin that evidently wuz worthy of death is that he defied a command from the police to give up and shot thru a door...  I simply cant help but wonder that if that little ole man wuz the granpaw or father of one of these officers, especially the commander, would this technique be used and the outcome defended...??     Folks, this is a serious moral and ethical issue as well as a police technique issue...  It needs a thorough review and some very serious analysis...  I'm vitally interested in this stuff, and i think ya should be too..  These guys could come to your (...or your grandpaw's house...) house one day...  Think about that one for a bit... This is, indeed, a tragic (...and i think heinous...) episode indeed...    Time will tell if this one shakes out; this one is far from over...  There is one thing for sure, however, that little ole 107 year old aint gonna get any older, and those involved will never be the same again... I think that is a shame...I think it should have been avoided...   leroy
  22. I cant believe what im readin here from some of ya.... If the police cant handle a 107 year old guy without an armed entry with a distraction blast, then shootin him; we are in deep trouble... This was poorly (...and tragically...) handled...   Folks are gonna have to quit carryin the water for these SWAT "dynamic entries" and come to the realization that there are some bad people wearin badges and guns; and some buffoons commanding them... This aint a dammed video game; its real life and a poor old out of his mind man is dead because of this nonsense...   At best, this is a terrible mistake... At worst it is a police commando murder...  God forbid these folks come and protect you, me or anybody else...   This is another Branch Dividian thing, abeit on a smaller scale.   It's capricious (...and most likely criminal...) use of deadly force to and military tactics to take out a crippled up, childish old man...  If the police cant handle poor, demented 107 year olds without killin 'em; you had better be afraid when they come to your house....   And, by the way, i aint a SWAT team member, nor do i play one in video games or on TV;  and (...thank God...) ive never made a police entry... That dont mean a dammed thing here... You need to think before ya kill people...Especially the oldest and youngest among us..   This is, in fact, a tragedy and most likely a crime to boot.... Havin said that, i'm willin to bet that someone will cover for this disgraceful act....   leroy
  23. Maybe the guy they "captured' aint the guy that done the shootin...    There is somethin rotten here that aint come out yet....  If ya look at the google map of this area; there is lots of rugged territory to the north.   Maybe they saw somethin they shouldn't have seen... This looks way too professional to me for a drug crazed redneck boy to do this shootin; but i tend to be a bit cynical and suspicious myself...     I think several things are for sure....As others have wisely opined; they probably wouldn't doin a rolling bible study.... They weren't commin home from prayer meeting; nor were they (...most likely...) "....role models for the yuuths of amerika"...  as that great humanitarian and philosopher jessee jackson would say...   All that bein said; i don't think they deserved bein shot in the head and left dead; but, to me at least, there is somethin mighty rotten here....   I smell one of thee things;....bad company...., ....seeing that which should not be seen....,.... failure to pay... All of them are very dangerous; potentially lethal.   I know this territory pretty well... I've seen some things in broad daylight there on the old highway at crab orchard that made me very nervous and concerned to see -- way too many outsiders, and they aint transplants living in the area either... You need to be armed when you are there.   leroy
  24. Here are my recommendations: 1.   Historical era -- American Revolution -- Tower pistol 2.   Historical era -- early 1800's ---- Any "big colt" percussion revolver -- 36 navy to third dragoon 3.   Historical era -- late 1800's to now --- any colt saa or a large frame colt or smith double action "hand ejector"....   All in ornate leather; open carried of coursee.....   leroy
  25. Bersaguy's post (...#3...) above pretty well sums up the sheriff's responsibility and police power thing.  I think (....i dont know for sure...) that the office of sheriff in each county of a state is a "constitutional one"; and he is duly elected by the citizenry, and not appointed by some political hack.... I think he is, in fact, the chief law enforcement officer of the county that elected him, and his police power reaches all over that county, even into the cities and towns in the county.     Havin said that, i think there are "agreements" between the county and the municipalities therein where the "police" may be the lead in law enforcement.  Hopefully, our buddies in the legal profession who are students of this kind of stuff will fill in the details.     The bottom line is, it is very significant, indeed, that county sheriffs are refusing to enforce laws that they deem are unconstitutional at the state and federal level.... Very significant, indeed....     PS-- Got interested and lifted this from the sheriffs association website: http://www.sheriffs.org/sites/default/files/tb/The_Elected_Office_of_Sheriff_-_An_Executive_Summary.pdf   leroy
