Ferguson, MO, What would you do if this happened near you
leroy replied to runco's topic in General Chat
... There were riots in Chattanooga in the 1960's and on July 24, 1980... Ask your neighbors if it affected them...? In 1969 there wuz a fellow by the name of Martin Luther King that wuz shot in Memphis... It's easy to read about that one... This black unrest thing aint new, just another round of foolish people burnin and lootin the property of others under the name of "justice for the black man"; lead around by the same bunch of race baitin demigogues that are makin a big bucks by doin so; and aided and abetted by even rattier polititians who exploit any tragedy to further their political ambitions... There was a riot in knoxville in 1925 over the arrest of a noted black guy about town... The black community banded together to demand his release which resulted in the calling out of the Tennessee National Guard... The rest is bad... Several days of martial law and lots of shooting... By the way, my dad and grandad told me about this one... They were bringing a wagon load of produce to Knoxville the mornin of the martial law declaration... They were turned back at the gay street bridge over the tennessee river and could hear the shooting then... These riots aint new and they aint goin away until everybody (...black and white...) gets smart enough not to think they are not the only ones that dont get a fair shake.... Remember the great quote from Booker T. Washington: -
Ya cant go wrong with a Remington 700 action... A 40X target gun is nothin but a trued up 700 action... leroy

... Some folks ain't gonna like this; but I believe that the person that is still alive that is most responsible for this sad tragedy is Ward, SR... He has said some pretty hurtful and outrageous things in his public statements; part of which i can attribute to his sadness; the other is just plain foolish and over the top... More than that, he has evidently been the driving mentor and force in this unfortunate young man's driving career, and has publicly stated as much... I grew up around the dirt track racing scene... Dirt track drivers race and fight... They are competitive and sometimes combative... They don't run over other drivers on foot on purpose... If this hot headed kid had stayed in his car, he would be alive today... At some level, this grieving father and family have to know that... ...Remember, you are responsible for you... You can make irreversible choices... leroy

It can be done... Used to do it all the time... I wear carharts most all the time... I like 'em loose and my favorite carry location for a "baby glock" is left hip pocket in a good kydex hip holster... I use these: http://www.lefthandholster.com/Pocket_Holster.php The glock 26 is a bit heavy and i use a good belt to hold my pants up... If ya wear khaki's (...i do from time to time...); ya can front pocket carry the glock in the same holster... The trousers have to be the right size though... leroy

.... Remington 700 stainless remington proof barrel 222 varmiter with a 12 power Lyman scope in weaver rings... Winchester model 70 in a winchester proof 223 varmiter barrel in a thumbhole prone stock with a Unertl BV 20... Target bases... ...If the varmits get too big... Remington 40X 300 win mag single shot, 26 inch remington proof heavy barrel... 16 power Unertl with target bases... leroy

Tell me your favorite .44 mag loads.

For a long barrel, like a rifle, i'd look at 20 to 22 grains of 2400 and hard cast bullets (...or jacketed...); or H110 with jacketed bullets... Use a heavy crimp on both... leroy -
The "vertical curve" thing is great...!! leroy

Keep up the good work bruthah...!! School is important... It's the gateway to a better job... Better job-- more dollars--more dollars--better life for you and your family---more disposable income (...whatever that is...)--more guns... It's a "win-win" for everybody... leroy

Anyone that shoots rifles a lot at very small targets will tell you that there are two very important components to his rifle... The barrel and the trigger... I've found this to be very true... When you improve the trigger, you improve your inherent accuracy... Target triggers are an improvement to any rifle that is capable of good accuracy... leroy

The thing that all here (...and everywhere...) should think about is this... This man was shot and his assailant was caught, tried, and adjudicated... That's how the law works here (...if it works correctly, that is...)... His wife and others like her thought that this heinous deed was important enough (... ALA Gabby Giffords style....) that the punishment handed out to David Hinkley by the law wasn't enough... They decided that everyone who owns a gun or honors the owning of guns was guilty of the "crime of owning a gun" (....according to their value system...) should be made to pay; and they went out and politicked to make this clearly fantastic and childish abridgement of the Second Amendment the law of the land... They called in favors and found other like-minded, overbearing jackasses with the influence to make this all happen... I say it's the ultimate disgusting, overbearing, self-important acting out of George Orwell's "Animal Farm"... Remember the great line; "...All animals are equal; but some animals are more equal than others..." It's the Divine right of kings (...and kingmakers...) re-dux... It's exactly what started the American Revolution... That's who these apostate, ratty, overbearing political insiders are at heart... There is, in fact, a two tiered system in this country ALA the Roman Empire... Patricians and plebeians...James Brady was thought to be a Patrician... I say do not celebrate this poor man's passing nor do him any honor... His family has done enough to damage and divide this country... They simply are not americans, nor should they be honored as such... leroy

I wouldn't be surprised to see this happen... Like mike said; there is a way around most all of this "import ban" stuff; and after the next presidential election; all this will go away anyway (...i think...)... leroy

With Tennessee youv'e got an interesting political gun-related history... Tennessee at one time was a solid southern democrat pro - gun state (...like most all other southern states at the time...); with republicans only living east of the first bend of the Tennessee River over in east Tennessee... The political landscape looked exactly like it did during the civil war... Democrats ruled the old confederate enclaves and republicans were the minority... The kennedys and mlk were assinated and the infamous gun control act of 1968 was passed... Definitely a gun rights limiting move... A grandfatherly old white haired politico from Carthage, TN voted "yea" to that act who had served 6 terms in office (...over 30 years, from the "new deal" 30's thru the late 60's...) here in Tennessee, and was the darling of the state political class... His name: Albert Gore Sr... He was voted out (...he had some other problems too...) in favor of a Republican by the name of Bill Brock of Chattanooga, TN ... The political class well remembers that landmark election... The State of Tennessee started turning red, and the rest is history... Since that time, no politico from Tennessee except from the usual outposts of deep blue like inner city Memphis, Nashville, or Knoxville has openly espoused the gun control theme... We can quibble about certain votes "enabling a potential gun control move" ALA the thing with Lamar and Corker on various confirmation votes; but you can't find a solid vote for gun control anywhere at either the federal or state level in other than safely deep blue districts... leroy

Thanks to Glock and mike for the kind words... To pharaphrase that great polititian "Pappy" Minolaeous O'Daniel; "...In the next "Pappy O'Daniel administration, these great thinkers here on TGO will be my "brain trust"...! Thanks to all... leroy

Thinking about a 22 magnum rifle.....tell me about yours
leroy replied to gregintenn's topic in Long Guns
I know this thread is about the 22WMR, which I'm sure is a great shooter; after all it is a 22; so any good quality manufacturer's bolt gun chambered for it should work very well, indeed... Having said that; my only experience with small 22's outside of long rifle is with the 22 hornet... In my misspent youth, I had a buddy who loved Anchultz rifles... He had a box magazine 22 hornet sporter with iron sights (...peep...) that wuz the greatest small caliber rifle i ever shot...period... Anytime, anyplace, anywhere; including my beloved 222 Remington... If i wuz lookin for a relatively cheap to shoot 22; i would look at a hornet or one of its improved variants... Out to 200 yards they are great... No noise to speak of, no recoil, and deadly accurate... Ya can reload the hornet easily and tailor the loads to your specific rifle... You can't do that with store bought ammo... leroy -
Looks very dangerous to potential malefactors... Enjoy... leroy

I think folks need to fully understand that we have a federal government, specifically within the executive branch and with accomplices in the congress who are, in fact, at war with the citizenry... The war is a cold war (...thankfully...); but it's a war none the less... The political class calling the shots today is for the most part a redux of the "Divine right of kings (...and queens...)" to tell us rabble what to do and how to do it; with a good dose of post civil war reconstruction thrown in.. Look at the pronouncements of Elenor Holmes Norton the other day... "... You (... citizens...) have no right to know everything that government does..."... The left wing of the Democrat party and some complicit republicans believe that they are, in fact, the smartest people in the room and that they can do anything they are big enough to do... They are busy trying to turn this country into a land of serfs and slave masters; with them being the masters, of course; and folks need to understand that fully... That's why it's so important to vote these people out... If you don't beat them politically, you may be called on to beat them with the bayonet; and no one wants that... I'm a relatively old geezer and ive never seen the political scene as hot as it is today... It's that way because of an imperious, overbearing, hateful, vindictive would be tyrant is sitting in the white house with a bunch of like-minded lieutenants; and if it's possible; the same sort of person is sitting in the majority leader's spot in the senate... The bottom line of this little epistle is as the elections get closer; these idiots will get worse and more high-handed... Remember to vote early and often; these sons of b****es will... leroy
