I'm glad this thread wuz resurected.... Reminds me of somethin the son and i laughed about the other day while drivin thru the new hamlet of "Rocky Top" (...formerly Lake City, and before then Coal Creek, TN --- the "lake city" name change didnt work either...)... We espied the "Now or Never Tatoo And Piercings on the main street of "Rocky Top"... I think the name says it all.... Website with directions here: http://nowornevertattooandpiercings.blogspot.com/ Directions: https://www.google.com/maps/place/Now+or+Never+Tattoo's+%26+Piercings/@36.220219,-84.15642,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xd32cff4460fb9104 Enjoy... leroy

Tobias just explained why I don't like to get out much... I try to go out before the riff-raff gets up; which is usually by about 9:00 am or so....I try to finish by 9:00... From there on, the trash just gets thicker.... leroy

Dillon dealer in Knoxville or Chattanooga?
leroy replied to Currently's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I understand... For what it's worth; our 650 is bolted directly to a 2 ply (...2 sheets of 3/4 marine plywood...) stayed workbench in our downstairs utility store room... It's rock solid and works like a charm... We load lots of pistol ammo on it.... I aint got a clue where ya might find a strong mount kit at a retailer... leroy -
I'll add to Hersh's excellent comment... I'll always keep a small gun on me all the time (....usually a Sig 238 in a front pocket holster...) and a "big gun" (...a baby glock, a G20, or a big revolver close in the car or my ole jeep...)... You cant have too many guns... PS--- i also like the j frame smiths in a pocket holster or IWB.... leroy

Dillon dealer in Knoxville or Chattanooga?
leroy replied to Currently's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I would recommend just ordering it from the Dillon website.... I've ordered a ton of stuff from them with great results... leroy -
Helluva thing.... Accurate, powerful, reliable, and full of death as a drug store... Makes me want to get my stainless plow handle sheriff back out again... PS-- If ya are a reloader, try 13.5 grains of 2400 and anybodies 358 diameter hardcast SWC with standard primers and a heavy crimp... They shoot very well in all my 357's... They are accurate and plenty powerful... Thanks for posting the great pictures... Enjoy... leroy

Whats your favorite boolit gauge/comparator
leroy replied to Ron Padilla's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
The best comparator is a dial indicating caliper and a good reloading manual... If ya load ammo for semiautos (...rifle or pistol...) buy a cartridge gage like these for every cartridge ya load: http://www.brownells.com/reloading/measuring-tools/case-gauges-headspace-tools/case-length-headspace-gage-6-8mm-rem-special-sku749003958-33287-67650.aspx?cm_mmc=cse-_-Itwine-_-shopping-_-Wilson%20Case%20Gage&gdftrk=gdfV21820_a_7c187_a_7c1021_a_7c749003958_d_749003931_d_20537 It saves plenty of headaches.... leroy -
It's a distraction topic... We need another nameless, faceless monster to be afraid of (...outside of Obama and Holder, that is...)... What better way to divert from the ratty stuff goin on here and to smear the border Patrol, The Texas National Guard, and Rick Perry in the mean time...??? leroy

hi... Got an older version of one of these: http://swfa.com/Burris-15-45x50-High-Country-Spotter-P11024.aspx It works like a charm for pistol stuff... You need a good tripod... We're photographers here too; so we use our photo tripods.... They work like a charm... leroy

Kharman... I'm an old 28 gage guy myself; but never used anything other than skeet loads... I've done a ton of business with Gamaliel Shooters Supply over the years.... Check this out... They are in stock; others may be as well... http://www.gamaliel.com/RemingtonSTS/remington_sts20sc_premier_sts_20ga_8_shotshells.asp They are northeast of Lafayette on the kentucky line.... 80 miles from the center of nashville... They are good folks to do business with.... leroy

My New Pedersoli Flintlock got here today.
leroy replied to Lowpower's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Lowpower.... I forgot the most important thing about the river bottom flint story... Most of the time, we would see chunks (...nodules...?) of flint in roundish rocks layin by themselves in the plowed ground... They were light tan to almost white on the outside and the flint was a beautiful graphite gray, light to dark with a few streaks of white in it... The roundish rocks were from about half inch diameter up to 3 or 4 inches in diameter... Evidently, when they got plowed up, the plow would break a corner off and expose the flint inside... The disc harrows evidently did the same thing... As to the source in Tennessee... I would be tempted to check out some of the rock hound dealers that sell geodes and quartz.... They may have some... leroy PS--- I "enjoyed" the "source" too... It's amazin what some folks are interested in... -
My New Pedersoli Flintlock got here today.
leroy replied to Lowpower's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
Lowpower... When i wuz a kid and a young man, i had a buddy whose grandfather owned a very large river bottom farm on the French Broad River here in east tennessee... When the bottom was plowed, there was flint everywhere... We hunted it (...and arrowheads....) just after rains, as the rain would wash the dust off the rock and make them easier to see... I've also seen it in chert pits... The flint will be mixed in with chunks of chert... If i wuz you; i'd just buy it from our buddies at Bufflo Arms, Track of the Wolf, or the guys at Parris Landing (...cant think of their name just now...)... Here is a bit of information i picked out from a google search (...ya got me curious too...)... It's more than you ever wanted to know about flint... http://peopleofthestone.com/finding-flint-identifying-source-can-be-both-helpful-and-easy-do leroy.... -
Will Hayden (Sons of Guns) arrested for child molestaion "allegedly"
leroy replied to Lumber_Jack's topic in General Chat
The truth of this whole sorry thing will never be known for a couple of reasons... The first (...as others have opined, that it happened in Louisiana, which is, indeed a whole other country....); and second, because of the curious abridgement of a bedrock tennant of American law that moves the accused from "innocent until proven guilty"; to "guilty if someone says so".... It's un-American on its face... I know this is a touchy subject; but the whole "child protection" thing is out of hand; and has been for a long time... It basically suspends a bed rock tennant of American law under the guise of protecting the innocent... There is not a day that goes by in any state in the union in which someone doesn't maliciously (...and falsely....) charge someone else with heinous wrongdoing with children or spouse; and then coaches the child to corroborate the lie... Sometimes the charges are true... In lots of cases, they are not... This good-intentioned quirk of law designed to protect the vulnerable has been turned into a convenient vehicle for whipping, punishing, ruining, and tarring your estranged "siginficant other" with a very great amount of immunity for the accuser... Whether or not the charges are true or not is of little consequences in most cases.... The law as written in most states basically allows a vehicle for vindictiveness and "get evenism" if your "significant other" moves from a pleasant to an un-pleasant mood; and tilts the playing field in their favor.... If you are accused, you are deemed guilty; and no amount of evidence to the contrary, save a re-canting of the story (...which aint likely due to the possibility of charges being leveled at the accuser...) will suffice for exhonoration... Once you have been accused (...no matter the outcome...); you have the "Mark of Cain"... Any potential employer can (....and most likely, will...) do a Google search during any pre-employment screening and find any public document "charging" folks with crimes... It's in the public domain... If they find it (...and they will...), the answer to potential employment is "no thanks".... Being as that the divorce rate is about 50% in this country anyway; folks should think long and hard about this sort of stuff when they pick that "significant other" , especially if there is a previous divorce or a 'blended family" involved... You better know who that person is (...and be right about it...) before you enter into a family relationship with them and their family.... Lest ye "do gooders" and "children's advocates" (...which we should all be, by the way...) get up in arms over this... I'm neither convicting nor condoning here... I'm merely pointing out the great potential for abuse in a point of popular law that should have never come up in the first place.... And, "no" I don't like child molesters... I put them a couple of levels below the "get-even" and "vindictive" bunch... Yes, i have children... They are grown... As you can all see, this is a "pet peeve" of mine... I'll shut up now.... leroy -
Like Patton says... Heavier bullets.... I like 13.5 to 15 grains of 2400 and anybodies 158 grain hard cast semi wadcutters with standard primers and a real heavy crimp.... leroy

Steel targets--possible damage?
leroy replied to Stegall Law Firm's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Don't worry about it... It's the steel absorbing the energy of the bullet... The steel used for targets is strong and ductile (... will stretch elastically...)... The cup shaped dents show it's doin it's job well... The targets will looks "used" over time, but they won't suffer too much damage... leroy -
Just got an Adamas... It's heavy... I'm sure the autos are too... leroy

Peace... Remington 700 action when ya start this... I would look for an older sporter in the meantime... Tou will need a long action (...30-06...) size to shoot that far... Remington 700s have been around a long time and there is lots of used stuff floatin around... There are more custom parts for the 700 than all the other rifle actions combined... leroy

All the positioning, windbaggery, and pronouncements that are being made by the political class with the various speeches, "investigations" and political machinations around ferguson have absolutely nothin to do with the truth and justice, and everything to do with political opportunism... The democrat plantation owners have created this economically challenged non-family tribe of folks, have voluntarily incarcerated them in a ghetto thru promises of "free stuff" to contain them, and they are working them to use them to their best effect...That use: "To be a megaphone to amplify the "we be put down by the man too long", "whitey's mean and uses excessive force on us", and "whitey is a killa" mantras... The "tribe" has already decided that whitey is guilty; and the facts be dammed... They ain't interested in facts.... They are interested in a "whitey" being made to pay for the heinous crime of defending his life against a monstrous, drug besotted, hooligan that has been terrorizing his own neighborhood.... The grieving family members cant bring themselves to face the truth of this matter, anymore than Trayvon's family could... They simply cannot accept the truth that these 'kids" were, in fact, dangerous thugs... Nixon and those surrounding him in the political class are no better nor no worse than any of this current crop of Democrat plantation masters...They are just playin this bunch of "children of lower estate" like a violin...The rest of the state be dammed... I say if the people of Missouri and St Louis county want to put up with this; let it be.... Keep electing these sons of b*#ches... All they want to be is to be at the top of the fiefdom wielding all the power and everybody else can be everybody else... They care nothin about the law and everything about being in power and being the last word on everything... We are devolving into 'third world" status at many locations in this country, with most of it centered in the large population centers in the blue states... The Obama administration and these state democrat plantation masters have done more to destroy the rule of law in this country over the last few years than any other group has in the last sixty or so... I fear the truth of this matter will never come out due to the fact that those "investigating" it are sworn politicos who see the law as nothing more than a weapon against your political enemies and a tool to further their political interests ALA the Rick Perry/Tom DeLay thing... My offhanded guess is that the truth aint gonna mean much in this one... I hate it for all involved, but i fear it's the truth.... I believe that the only chance this poor policeman has is in the federal court... This one will truly be one to watch... The real losers here are the people of Ferguson and the rest of Missouri in general... The ones squalling for justice just want revenge; the ones that vote to keep these sons of b*#tches in office are believin the lie... The casualty of all this is the murder of "equal justice under the law"; which we can quibble about a bit; but has pretty much been the norm up until recently... leroy

Ya might try the old trick of lookin at your target with both eyes open and simply swinging the pistol up from below into your line of vision and aligning the sights... Dont take too much time lining the sights like ya would with "target shooting".... leroy
