Verne... We're model 97 affectionados too... I think (...that means that i didnt go down and look in the safe to tell...) that the "original" winchester butt plates are black hard rubber, are crosshatched, and say "Winchester".... Ya may have to sand the pad down a bit to make it fit like it should; but that aint a big deal if you are patient and careful....   Good luck and enjoy your 97...   PS--Karnage's post above is it...!! leroy

  Jonnin.... I think you are exactly right... VIZ : The Cumberland county thing where four dope head kids were found murdered execution style at Crab Orchard and all the sudden two other older dope head adults were charged... I say "baloney".... These two older dope heads no more murdered these kids than i killed Cock Robin...   I think it was most likely a professional job because these poor kids saw something they shouldn't have seen... The killers came and went and are still takin care of business (...the drug business, that is....)... The Cumberland county sheriff knows that and is tryin to keep a lid on things... I also think that lots of time there is lots of abject fear of having to deal with these real killers; and i understand why... If ya decide to take them on; ya better be the real thing....   Be careful where ya go in the woodzier parts of these plateau counties.... Ya might see the wrong thing....   leroy

I'm convinced ya may have handed us (...and you...) the answer in a post above... Ya need some sort of roll or bag to rest the reciever and barrel with if ya are shootin off a bench... The weapon needs to be hoisted up enough to where it (...including the magazine...) is not touching the bench in any way when ya pull the trigger.... Lots of time i'll use a roll under the front and a bean bag in the rear to rest the stock...   If ya do that and keep the rifle from contacting the bench, i think ya will be surprized at how the groups improve... The rifle needs to be supported the same way (...as much as ya can...) every time ya pull the trigger in order to check out their accuracy potential...    leroy

I would measure the od of the round right above the crimp line to get a true bullet diameter reading.. I think ya could get a pretty good reading with a dial caliper; but a thousands reading micrometer would be better... I bet the throats are tight in the aftermarket barrels and ya might have to garnet paper the od of the bullet down a bit to make 'em work reliably....   leroy

TMF....    RE: this.... I don't see it relevant that a black person is as upset about this as a white person. ...   You seem to be saying that race makes no difference here... It does; and to assume it doesn't is to overlook a myriad of problems...   I'll grant on a "global scale" that "all people" ought to be outraged about wrong-doing in general because it's an ethical issue; and that all people of good conscience, no matter the color, should be saddened by the actions of hoodlums...   Race simply cannot be taken out of this in this country... It's been made an issue since the sixties; and it is continuing today... You may choose not to believe that; but it requires a bunch of selective forgetting to get to that conclusion...   I am old enough to have heard the original speech that LBJ made declaring "War on Poverty"... I saw the news casts when MLK was shot in Memphis; i saw the first-hand reports on TV, i didn't read about them...   Fast forward 50 or so years; and the race baiters up front and behind the scenes have worked their magic... They have poisioned the minds of many in the black community; and it wont soon be fixed....     This problem will be solved when several things happen... Folks need to realize and accept the following.....   1... The civil war has been over for 149 years... No one alive today owned slaves; and no one alive today was a slave... To be responsible, you have to make a choice to be responsible... Capy... I'm gonna take a crack at answering this because i think it is a fair question and it deserves a reasoned answer... 1... Race matters because there is a deafening silence from the black community when this stuff happens... Now we can write this off as "their megaphone ain't big enough"; which I will buy to some extent because it don't fit the narrative... I, in fact, think that there are some black folks that care about this sort of thing; but they aint makin much headway in solving the problem.... They are shouted down or just get tired of fighting and shut up...   2... Race matters because the current administration in the White House have chosen to make it matter... They wield considerable power; and to think otherwise is to ignore this truth... Eric Holder is, in fact, an anti-white racist and his actions all thru this career at the inJustice department prove it... All ya have to do is to look around a bit and you can find plenty of examples... Barak Obama shares his view... No more need be said... Take a look at the recent discussions RE: Ferguson, MO police investigation by the inJustice department... It sends a clear message that says don't prosecute looters because we're watching and we'll slap you with a civil rights investigation if you do...    3... Race matters because of this fact.... Although the black population in this country is about 13 to 14%; about 50% of the violent crime is committed by blacks.... This is the real elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about for fear of bein called a name; which i find is laughable... The truth is that the black, dependent, fatherless, matriarchal society has caused this problem; but no one wants to do anything about it... Black folks won't touch it, and neither will whites...   4.   Ill close by way of this observation.... I live in east Tennessee; and I watched the reaction to the Christian-Newsome murders and two subsequent trials very closely... There was a deafening silence on the most heinous murder ever committed since tennessee has been a state from the local black community... They simply couldn't bring themselves to condemn a crime as heinous as these; I think, because the victims were white and the perpetrators were black... Even the local government and the police department in Knoxville couldn't bring themselves to decry this crime... The reason, i think, fear of offending any constituency... No core values, just potential votes...   What ive said above is why this is a problem... A problem that most folks want to tip-toe around because they are afraid of being called a racist or some other silly name; or they are afraid of alienating some potential voting block... I think the whole thing is sickening...   I don't know about you; but I ain't afraid of a bunch of children calling me names; but some evidently are... I didn't want to believe any of this; but i simply cannot be intellectually honest and believe anything else...   Folks in this country are edgy, they are afraid, and they have been tribalized along every line ya can think of... I'm a relatively old geezer and ive never seen anything like it in my 50 plus years of watchin people...  This country is simply not the one i grew up in the 50s... Folks, there have been plenty of people beaten to death and hacked to death in south africa... All of 'em white, with all the attackers bein black; and no one being prosecuted for murder down there because the "authorities" are turnin a blind eye to this sort of mayhem...   I firmly believe that the model that is being used by the injustice department and the news media is the "south african" model that allows for indiscriminate attacking and killin of whitey with no fear of retribution... I know that's a "far out" thought; but look around... No one in the federal gubmt and many in the media could give a damn less if whitey is finished off; after all he stole everything he has anyway... If he happens to survive, he is by definition "a criminal" for defending himself successfully... They are emboldin these hoodlums to do these things and shakin their fingers at the local constabulary if they choose to do somethin about it....   This problem will not be cleaned up until after another presidental election; and folks need to wrap their collective minds around that and accept it... Most anyone can whoop me pretty easy; they just aint goin to... Two or three kicks could kill me, as im a pretty old geezer that takes coumadin... Ive already decided that they aint gonna whoop me... You need to decide whether ya want a woopin or killin for the "greater good"... I simply aint goin too... Your mileage may vary...   All that bein said:... I think things are pretty calm here in Tennessee outside the Knoxville, Chattanooga, Nashville, Memphis metro areas... Be glad they are... Sights are like a lot of other things; they are highly dependent on marketing hype, customer loyalty, and other things that have nothing to do with their use... We've got 'em all.... Thanks Brazil.... The bullets looks good and i would bet the coating is pretty slick and hard.... I just ordered some 180 grain 10mm from Bayou Bullets... I've got the brass, dies, and primers ready.... I'll load up about 50 or so and see how they feed...   Thanks a bunch... leroy 

Thanks for the replies... While i'm thinkin.... Does it help the flat nose bullets on the feed ramps... I really like the truncated cone and wide flat nose stuff; but have been hesitant to load up a bunch of them due to the potential for feeding problems....   Thanks again... leroy

Dear fellow reloaders....   It's about time for me to load up some practice ammo for my357  sig, 40 s&w, and 10mm glocks... I keep noticing that many bullet casters are coating bullets with some sort of high tec coating that looks like paint to me... How about  " splainin this phenomenon to me", as the great Ricky Ricardo would say... Here are the questions: 1... does it work...? 2... how does it work...? 3... will these bullets shoot in stock glock polyagonal rifled barrels without buildup...? 4....whose bullets do ya like the best....?   Thanks in advance... leroy
