If ya really want to learn how to shoot a double action revolver double action (...and you should....); it's hard to beat a model 13 smith or its stainless steel brother in a 4 inch barrel... You can find them for reasonable prices if ya look around a bit... They simply can't be beat for ability to clean up and smooth the action and for general handling... You can pay lots more money for a model 19 or a 66, but ya cant find a better handling revolver... I've got a 3 inch round butt from the original run that i learned to shoot double action with... They can't be beat.... More than that, the 357 mag is the equal of any "modern" plastic gun caliber right up to the 10 mm... We shoot 'em all.... Get ya a good single action after ya get the double action wheel gun.... My pet right now is a stainless ruger old model vaquero with a 3 3/4 inch barrel loaded with the old long keith 173 grain bullet in 38 special cases over 12 grains of 2400... They are easy to shoot, superbly accurate, and pack a big whallop (...about 1100 fps...)... leroy

Get ya a Citori with interchangeable chokes (...that fit's ya...)... Ya can hand it down (...with your superposed...) to your grandchildren... You'll never be able to do that with a pump or seimauto... leroy

Harwell/Ramsey Grand jury indictment?
leroy replied to thundersnow's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm no Harwell/Ramsey fan; but think Ramsey was exactly right... It's a far-fetched political stunt pulled off by John J Hooker; and kept alive by that paragon of non-biased reporting, The Nashville Tennesseean... Check this out....http://www.tennessean.com/story/news/crime/2014/09/30/confusion-continues-unusual-grand-jury-move/16502091/ Check this one out too....http://www.tennessean.com/story/opinion/columnists/frank-daniels/2014/09/28/will-nashvilles-new-da-ignore-grand-jury/16338973/ Hooker is an old geezer (...born 1930...) and democrat political operative (...sorta...) who remembers when Tennessee was reliably democrat... He was the Democratic candidate for governor a couple of times; but he lost; i think, because he was too nutty for the "new deal" conservative democrats (...there actually were some... Ned McWerter and Frank Clemmett come to mind; they were elected....) that populated the state from the Tennessee River west... He evidently was the "citizen presenter" on this particular Grand Jury... This is nothin but a political stunt (...to use Ramsey's words...) and a far-faced attempt at criminalizing the actions of the opposing political party's normal political job activities... Nobody gives a damn about the appointments to the judicial performance review board in the first place; i've never heard of them hearing a complaint... Further, i doubt the "pool" of qualified personnel to sit on this review board whose composition is supposed to monitor the demographic makeup of the state actually does so to begin with.... Said another way; there probably ain't enough candidates of each demographic persuasion to have a homogeneous and correct pool... I think it's an attempt at Texas state dirty politics brought to Tennessee ALA the Rick Perry/Tom DeLay thing... leroy -

West... I got ta thinkin about your 1911 collection a bit; and lettin my mind wander back to the "old days" when the 1911 wuz first birthed... The 1911 replaced the Colt Single Action Army, which was the first (...and i think greatest...) of the calvary pistols... Lots of folks don't know it; but the 1911 was first and foremost a cavalry weapon... There are lots of old timers from the civil war on who talked about carryin at least 4 loaded pistols on their calvary mounts... If ya do the math on that one; you've got an armored up set plus 5 1/2 reloads.... That's a helluva lot of firepower... Ole Nathan Bedford Forrest or JEB Stuart would be proud of ya... Check this out....http://tvblogs.nationalgeographic.com/files/2012/05/CivilWarReenactors_31_Explorer-596x335.jpg To my way of thinkin, there's nothin more fearsome than a man on horseback bearin down on ya with a pistol blazin...... Keep shootin... leroy

Getting calls from a number that is "not in service"
leroy replied to jgradyc's topic in General Chat
Evidently the telemarketers, canvassers, and others can buy a relatively inexpensive device that, in effect, lies about what number that's calling... It's a little machine that evidently allows you to "reassign" your real number (...your land or cel line...) to a number you "reassign" that magically appears on your caller id... They are evidently used quite a bit to fool us delightful rustics into thinkin someone other than a telemarketer, pervert, or thug is callin our number.... leroy -

These issues will not calm down until the atmosphere which promotes them is removed...Said another way; lawlessness by certain "protected classes" of folks is ok; or overlooked as "workplace violence".... MO are two good examples.... 2016 can't come quick enough... leroy

My... Here it is... http://www.collectorsfirearms.com/colt-sheriffs-44-special-44-40-9805/#.VCasOfldWSo A "real" firearm... Have hamilton bowen slick it up and maybee even send it off to Doug Turnbull to re-mark (...and re-blue...) to the old prewar marking "44 russian and special" (....i think...), bevel the cylinder to the old black powder spec, re-cut the flutes a bit bigger, and case-harden the hammer... They are a helluva thing... We've got a couple of his brothers... They look and handle out of this world... A close second would be a worked over WW1 commemerative like stormin said...... Enjoy, and happy birthday... leroy

All... Check this out and ask yourself if this wuz a "regular" citizen, or, God Forbid, a republican citizen, what kind of sentence would he receive for this "crime".... It's George Orwell's "Animal Farm".... "All animals are equal, it's just that some are more equal than others..." Be careful who you vote for... http://dailycaller.com/2014/09/23/gun-control-activist-who-swore-he-forgot-he-was-packing-heat-at-school-gets-lenient-sentence/ leroy

HEHEHE... Even a sorry, fish faced ole educrat like Jimmy Cheek (... and the UT legal staff...) knows better than to tolerate these incursions against the First Amendment... Even a blind hog will pick up an acorn every now and then... Thanks for posting this bit of news... My guess is that ya cant read it in that godless rag the Knox News... It's too heinous for them to post... HEHEHE... leroy

This right here is "real stuff"... That's a great rifle you've got there... Looks ta me like the one holdin it ain't doin bad either... Can't wait to hear about the 1000 yd stuff... When we wuz playin with this sort of stuff years ago, we found that the further the win mag shot with the heavy bullets, the better it shot... Remember the sissy bag thing... There ain't no shame in usin them... We did... We used a rear rifle bag that wuz about 6 inches square and filled with lead shot... It calmed these "hard kickers" right down... We used somethin like this without the ears (...which i doubt would be a problem anyway...) http://www.rwhart.com/store/proddetail.asp?prod=PRO-N-14&cat=25 By the way, the R. W. Hart guys are good to deal with... I'd like to have one of their long range rests myself; but we dont do enough rifle shootin to warrant one... leroy Keep up the good work... leroy
