I carry both from time to time... This concern wuz settled long ago by a guy named Jeff Cooper, who in his younger years, travelled the countryside with a couple of buddies putting on shooting exhibitions out west... Cooper; a combat veteran and the founder of the great shooting school Gunsite; used the legendary 1911, another guy a revolver, the third a single action army colt... As to speed to the first shot, the results were a tie... There was never a clear winner for the first shot... The 1911 won the reload contest all the time.... The moral of this little story; if you are a finished gunman and know your weapon; they are all fast until the first reload... Remember this, the best reload is a second gun... Hope this helps a bit... leroy

Prag... I want to say that we used 25.5 grains of H335 as an accuracy load in a turnbolt 223 using military cases, standard primers, 52 to 55 grain match bullets, and a heavy 1 to 9 twist barrel... As i remember, ya could lay a dime over a 5 shot group... The other "pet" load was 26.5 grains of Ball C2... Hope this helps... leroy

I gotta echo the wizened musings of Caster on this one... He is exactly right... The French are reaping the whirlwind of "political correctness and multi-culturalism" gone amuck... They have disarmed their population and emasculated their police (...one of the original victims was an unarmed policeman...) after putting up with years of muslum hooliganism and encroachment (...remember the traffic jambs in the big cities during prayer time, along the usual evening burning of cars in the big cities throughout France...?)... There are plenty of places in France where the local governments have effectively ceded their government to these hooligans, and neither the locals nor the police patrol there; while all the time the left wing multi-cultural elites have ignored the problem... All this trouble has spawned a pretty good right-wing movement in France with folks like Marie LePen pushing back in the French government while the entrenched socialist sons of satan are busy callin LePen and here followers "ultra-nationalists" and right-wing nazis; not unlike what ya see here in the USA with the Dems and the Tea Party... The French are pushing back; but i think it may be either "too little too late" or a helluva fight to reclaim french society and sovereignty from these pirates and murderers... Ya have to remember that France has been run by some pretty weak and sorry folks since the great Charles DeGaulle; and that's been 55 or so years ago... There were, in fact, some brave frenchmen in relatively modern times; the Germans killed a bunch of them in WW1 and the Aryian Supermen killed them in WW2... The Vischy French and the socialist bastards survived of course; and have been running the country since DeGaulle... The France of today is a far cry from the France of the American Revolution and Napoleon... I say the Frenchmen better re-arm themselves and retake their country; and they better get rid of these multi-culturalist weaklings and appeasing jackasses in their government in the process... Only then will the French have an adequate response to the real problem within their own borders and within Europe... watchin leroy

Jonnin gave ya the answer... If the floor is concrete, the back and sidewalls are block, and the ceiling is concrete over steel decking; i would look at enclosing the open side with a tarp or a wall of some sort; and then get some electricity to it so it can be heated a bit... That little bit of heat will stop the condensation... All ya need to do is keep the temperature inside above the dew point of the air outside; and a bit of heat will do that very well... leroy

Ya can save yourself a lot of work by lookin at the factory ballistics by bullet weight for semiauto pistols, then takin a look at the various reloading manuals to find a load that duplicates the factory ballistics... Semiautos ain't like revolvers; they are designed around a specific cartridge with specific bullet weights and velocity requirements --- revolvers will shoot most anything that wont get stuck in the barrel or will blow the cylinder up... My "go to" load with the 40 S & W is a 180 grain jacketed bullet (...anybodies...) and 6.5 grains of Unique... It works like a charm in my Glock 27... Hope this helps a bit... leroy

I like 231 for 38 special loads... Havin said that; its hard to beat Unique... Make sure you firmly roll crimp these loads... The Unique is bad to have unburned or toasted powder flakes if ya dont... My favorite load for the 158 grain swc is 5 grains of Unique or 4.5 grains of 231... Have fun... leroy

The second centerfire firearm i ever owned wuz a norwegan copy of a 1911... Like lowpower wisely said above; it would always fire and will most likely outshoot you... I've had a bunch of 'em since then; among them a frankenstein military 1911 with a springfield frame and an old colt slide... It came back from Viet Nam in a cotton sock... It still shoots like a dream... I'm a colt fan at heart and i own several series 70 government models... They all shoot better than i can hold... A 1911 is a great thing... I see the whole 1911 thing as a "whistles 'n bells" thing... The more the goodies attached, the higher the price... Outside of good sights, the goodies are just that.... goodies for folks to play with and talk about... There used to be two kinds of government models... Humble carryin guns used for self defense, and target guns made for bullseye shootin... The bullseye guns will outshoot the carryin ones; but they are more finicky... A bullseye gun will shoot into an inch or so at 25 yards... If i remember right, a military government model shoots into 2 1/2 inches at 25 yards, or a mean spread of 5 inches... Take a look at your chest and see if it makes much difference between 1 inch or 5 inches at 25 yards or less... It aint a big deal... Most folks dont need a target gun; but they like them... I do too... I cant hold better than 2 1/2 inches at 25 yards with two hands... Neither can the other ninety percent of folks i know that shoot and shoot a lot... I like a reliable 1911 with good sights and an ambidexterious safety (...im a lefty...)... If ya happen to be right handed, ya dont need anything but the good sights... If you are young, like lots of us geezers were in the long ago; ya dont even need target sights... The military sights work just fine... Moral of this little story... Buy the 1911 ya like and can afford... It will, in all likelyhood, outshoot you unless you are a bullseye shooter... Every finished gunman (...or woman...) needs a 1911... leroy

My guess is that it's a political move by Gwyn... Gwyn was appointed by Bredesen, who evidently saw to it that partisan politics were, indeed, a part of the TBI... This one will be interestin to watch... An appointed "public servant" callin out a duly elected DA looks like a real bad move to me; from a bunch of directions.... My guess is that Gwyn has no authority to do what he threatened to do... leroy

When iwuz younger and not gimped; if i went into the woods, i carried either a 357, 41 mag, or 44 mag Blackhawk with a 4 5/8 inch barrel in some kind of shoulder or "sportsman's holster"... I grew up shootin and reloading them and kept them stoked with the appropriate amount of hardcast lead swcs loaded ahead of a good charge of 2400... They are the best "walkin around" (...as the great John Taffin says...) handgun there is... The 4 5/8 is relatively light (...the ones with the aluminum gripframes...) and easy to handle... They are hell for stout and more accurate than 95%+ of us shooters are... You are well armed and a thoroughly dangerous if you master the Ruger Blackhawk for the woods and hunting... I learned to shoot these hard kickers with the sights that are on them... The add on stuff like the long eye relief scopes just make 'em more bulky... If i wuz goin ta do a scoped pistol; it would be a Thompson Contender in a 44 mag or bigger; but that's just me... The contender is flat and can be carried on a sling almost like a rifle... They are inherently accurate and lend themselves to long range shooting... leroy

My guess (...as others have opined...) is political targeting... Politics is a dirty business at every level... Look at the Thad Cochran thing in Mississippi... leroy

zyb... I will join the chorus of those who recommend ya handlin one and shooting it before you decide to work it over... I also believe that if ya have larger hands, it will be a problem... Real loads in a LW commander bark pretty hard (...to me at least...)... I need all the grip i can reach around to comfortably shoot a LW (...we've got one...)... We went the other way with our... Spur hammer instead of a rowell, and ambi safety, and champion adjustable low profile nite sights... As i remember, the reason for a bobtail wuz to help with consealability... If you are like me and a bit round; it wont be a problem anyway... I used to carry one all the time IWB with no problems... I wont carry them now, too valuable to dissapear into a police locker for years... leroy

jeff... Nosler makes a good bullet... I've used lots of them... Try Graff and Sons (...Google 'em...)... They may have some... As to price... All about the same... leroy
