  1. Ya need a 1911 smith to take a look at this pistola...   leroy
  2. Pete... I think the reason for the seeming "nobody cares" thing about the Nashville Fairgrounds is that these idiots have cut their noses off to spite their faces... There are plenty of close venues that will take these shows in without these silly restrictions... The fact is that inner city Nashville is a sewer just like all the other "inner city" spots run by these idiots... Let em starve... No one goin to put up with this silly stuff... They simply dont have to...   leroy
  3. Its a rimless mid range 41 magnum in a neat full size glock... I like 'em...   leroy
  4.   Moped has given some good advice here...   I've got a Sig 238 and several "J" frames... The lightweight "J" frames carry as well for me as the 238... My 26 year old likes the 238... young, tight jeans...Pistol is slimmer... Me... Geezer... Loose fitting dungarees... I cant tell the difference... Don't overlook a small double action revolver...   leroy
  5.   Here it is my man...!  In a nutshell... Pride in ownership and "heirloom" status is for the very expensive models... Everybody makes good binoculars today... Glad ya found some binoculars ya like at a "pseudo-sensible" price... My outside limit is about 200 smacks for 'em....   leroy
  6. Folks... All the calibers we have been talkin about are good ones... They will all do the job they were designed to do... The graveyards in Russia are full of Ivans killed by the 9mm...     As to the "short and weak" 40 S&W; check these articles out... There aint nothin new under the sun... Check out this article from the great John Taffin.... The 10 mm is an old time 38-40.... Read here... ...  http://www.sixguns.com/tests/tt3840.htm   Here is John's take on the 40S&W... http://www.sixguns.com/tests/tt40sw.htm   To say that the nine is a "death ray" and the 40 S&W aint is laughable... All these calibers are thoroughly dangerous in the hands of a skilled gunman... A 9 mm round is .355 inches diameter... A 40 is .401 inches diameter... A mere 0.046 inches separates em... Think about it...   leroy
  7. Our old Golden would have this problem from time to time... If this guy is inside, i would first recommend a good close haircut... Secondly, try and see if ya can get him (..or her...) to take a bit of olive oil with their food, and watch and see what happens... RE:  "The bath thing"... Dont give him (..or her...) a bath unless they really need it...   Hope this helps your buddy... leroy
  8. Greg.... I've got a pair of these... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/850077-REG/Kowa_YF30_8_YF_8x30_Binocular_Black.html   They work like a charm... Kowa is a great maker... I've got a pair of the little ones too 8X25 i think... These are the best "cheap" binoculars ive seen... Check this out as well.... http://www.bestbinocularsreviews.com/   My opinion on binoculars was formed by a buddy of mine who sold everything from bushnell to zeiss.. He said:...."...I looked thru most all of 'em, i cant tell much difference (...except in price...)...   Hope this helps... leroy
  9. Buy the one on sale; if its RCBS, Hornady, Lyman, Lee... I dont like the turret presses for rifles; but that's just me... A single stage heavy duty press does the best job in resizing rifle brass... I think, at least...   Good luck... leroy
  10. Good heavens...!   leroy
  11. Good ridddance...   noncarin leroy...
  12. All... I've come to believe that the college campus protest thing is nothin more than a hopeful attempt at manufacturing a crisis that will result in someone gettin hurt or killed and spark a general "people's revolt" ALA the "Anarchist" and "One Big Union" (...IWW...) happenings in the early 1900s... Barkak Obama and his friends have created a climate friendly to this sort of foolishness; and, more than that, they believe in it... Take a look at the manifesto of any socialist organization... It contains rhetoric essentially sayin that "believers need to rise up"...    Havin said all that; i dont believe for a minute that it's gonna happen "en masse"... I firmly believe Obama and other "anti-colonial" jhadists are workin overtime to cause enough general unrest to suspend the Constitution... They, and the Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn's of the world have lived for this "socialist utopia" thing since the sixties, and now, for the first time ever, they have a president that share's their world view... I think in the next 12 months runnin up to the 2016 elections, ya are gonna see things that people in america have never seen before... The school thing is just the vanguard element of "useful priveledged idiots" that are reliving the sixties...  "actin out the sixties"...   leroy . ...
  13. The folks at Underwood Ammo are good folks... Buy and use without worry...   leroy
  14. Ya might want to try corning some of the venison (...think corned beef recipe here...)... Some of the best venison i've ever tasted was corned... It's great because the venison is so naturally lean...   leroy
  15. I like a crimp... It don't matter in a bolt gun... It does matter sometimes in a semiauto...   leroy
  16. Folks....   Obama and his friends have created a favorable environment for this sort of "campus protest" thing... Its a resurgence of the "Anarchist" movement of the early 1900's (...before WW1...)... Do a bit of research on the IWW (...International Workers of the World...) and the "One Big Union" movement... It's very enlightening.... Everyone of these "campus protests" , "black lives matter" , and "occupy" happenings is right out of the IWW playbook, and is nothin but a hopeful attempt to start the "big revolution"... I say, let em burn down and kick around these college professor/administrator weenies and inner city idiots... I really think these idiots want another "Kent State" shootin thing; here's hopin they don't get one...   IWW watchin leroy....
  17. Older Ithaca model 37 or a wooden stocked Browning BPS... They are hard to beat...   leroy
  18. We use Ballistoil on our percussion revolvers and single actions we shoot black powder loads in... Ballistoil is water soluble and works great on them... We use the North-South Skirmish Association recipe for cleaning (...Murphys oil soap, hydrogen peroxide, windex without ammonia, and ethanol...) in equal parts for cleaning; then swab the cylinder and barrels down with the Ballistoil... The only thing ive noticed with it is that it does, in fact, stay exactly where ya put it... It will not "migrate" like some oils do... Make sure you completely cover whatever ya want to protect.. We learned this the hard way with a bit of rust on the muzzle of one of our percussion pistols... I always use Ballistoil on the inside parts, and wipe the outsides down with some sort of moisture displacing lube like Hoppes or whaever else is handy... I see this stuff as basically a lube for blackpowder firearms...    This has come up before... Ya may want to do a TGO search on Ballistoil...   Hope this helps a bit... leroy
  19. CZ... Ya see the glass "half full"... I see the glass "half empty".... It's the difference between bein a grouchy old cynic (...me...) and being hopeful (...you...) that the bureaucrats will sometimes do the right thing...   FTE... As to the "Pistols are not indestructable" thing... The idea that a LEO wears out a gun is laughable; to me, at least... I've probably burned as much powder as 95% of the people on this forum and in the police corps thru 1911's, Smith revolvers, and a myriad of single actions; lots of it with heavy handloads... I've never worn a pistol out, and i've never seen one worn out... In my particular case, ive never seen any degradation of accuracy nor reliability... I will grant that i've seen competition pistols get a bit loose and need a new barrel and bushin (...think 1911's here...)... Nothin more...    Again... Your mileage may vary...   leroy the cynic
  20. Here i am at the southern base of Copper Ridge near the hamlet of powell...   leroy
  21.   RE:   The posts above by FTE (... #48...) and CZ9 (...#49...)....   The number 49 post...   No... The ammo guys make out no matter what... Ammo consumption stays the same assuming personnel levels stay the same.... The gun manufacturers sell new guns to replace the old guns specified by the agency...   Always remember these truths: ... Not buyin somethin always saves money... Buying something new always costs money... It works at your house, my house, and the gubmt's house... It's a universal truth...   RE:  The "new pistola thing"... I've got a Smith model 13 three inch heavy barrel... It was the "new" FBI gun in the late seventies... I like it a lot... I remember them changing from the Smith 13 to the 9mm, then settlin on the 40 after playin with the 10mm, now back to the 9mm... That's a change of 4 pistolas over the course of 35 years... About every nine years, someone gets paid...    RE:... Where does the money for new gubmt purchases come from...? The government never saves money, they spend money... Where do they get the money...?   From you and me of course...   The number 48 post...   RE:... As to the "detailed rationale" thing...  Of course they gave a detailed rationale..It's a standard requirement that gubmt and most big businesses use to justify new purchases.... The "detailed rationale" was to bolster the specs narrowly enough to get the product they want to get... I used to make a pretty good livin providing "detailed rationale" for capital equipment and construction services contracts... That's how they do it...    Think about it... It aint a conspiracy theory on my part as some have opined; it's a change from one caliber to another that is one mm different... .355 to .401.... The ballistics are strikingly similar...   Again; it ain't about a better pistola, it ain't about better "terminal ballistics", it ain't about "advances in bullet technology"; it's about someone gettin paid with your money...   Your mileage may vary...    leroy
  22.   Smith... The point is well taken, and you are exactly right... It aint about data, it aint about research, it's about payola man...!. Everything is for sale...   leroy
  23. Folks... This aint about a better caliber, nor a better pistol, nor better performance; it's about spendin mine and your money for stuff these folks don't need... This is crony capitalism (...really crony fascism...) at work...   When a large gubmt bureaucracy makes a change, somebody gets paid... Think about it...A new pistola... Somebody get's paid... New ammo...Somebody gets paid...   All major calibers are very effective in the hands of thoroughly trained and determined gunmen (...and women...)...  This is about spendin money with the right folks and payin off the right "insiders"...It's payola for the patrician class of bureaucrats...   Somethin to think about... It's endemic to both parties.. It will be almost impossible to fix...   sneerin leroy
  24. I'm all for Sharia (...or whatever it is...) law in the ghetto... We need some hands cut off for stealin and a few beheadins in the "hood"... It would clean some problems up... It's an idea whose time has come (..to the "hood' that is...)...   leroy's sharia legal aide society...
  25. Will... This is always a hard question for me; as i always tend to shoot whatever i buy; which lowers their value... I cant imagine a Colt SAA goin down in value too much... There just aint too many of them around... Maybe some of the "real collectors" will add to the conversation with their opinions... I kinda see the SAA's like good shotguns, they never tend to go down in price...   leroy
