    375 H&H

Mac... They are, indeed, very beautiful... Satin finish beautiful wood, rosewood fore end cap (...i think...)... The prettiest gun in the gun case; and that includes a couple of first issue Ruger #1's.... The only thing i think would be better is the old style mauser claw extractor rifles...   Havin said all that, Chris has a great idea... The double rifle is where it's at... The ultimate bawanna rifle... My checkbook just wont stand the strain of one; and im too old ta use it now...   leroy

    375 H&H

Mac....    I've got an older Remington 700 Safari in 375... It is a beautiful thing to behold... When i was younger, we would shoot it prone with a sissy bag... At 60 yards it would cut a 3 shot cloverleaf if you did your part holdin it (...we used the old "hourglass" targets and aimed at the points...) with iron sights... I never had any factory loads for it... We always used the accuracy load from the Lyman Manual with Sierra either 270 or 300 grain spitzer boat tails... I believe we used IMR 4350 for the powder... Right here is the latest copy on the bullets we used... https://www.sierrabullets.com/store/product.cfm/sn/3000/375-dia-300-gr-SBT   To sum things up; they are a great rifle with a helluva punch and remarkably accurate...   I heartily recommend 'em...   bawanna leroy...
  3. I'll join the "Bob" chorus as well... I've known Bob a long time... He is an excellent gunsmith and very proficient in workin on Smiths... I've used hime a bunch of time... Where ever he is; he will be an asset to those he is working for and with.. I heartily recommend him...    leroy
  4. tercel... I wear 'em all the time, and i use suspender buttons too... The best of the best suspenders are made by Fred Welch... Here is the link... http://www.welchsuspenders.com/ ... These are, in fact, "the best of the best" ...period... I discovered 'em 40 or so years ago when some of my buddies went and worked in the log woods of the pacific northwest... They are the standard of the log woods; and have been for years...   I like the "Y" backs with the 2 inch wide elastic... Easy on your shoulders and will hold anything up... Most of mine come from David Morgan... He also sells "bachelor buttons"... They are the buttons that ya have to button the waist of your carhartts and levis... Ya can install 'em with a hammer... Nothin to it... Here they are.. http://www.davidmorgan.com/product_info.php?products_id=32 ...   If ya want ta go all out with the logger dungarees, check here... Good deals on them as well...  http://www.baileysonline.com/Clothing/Men-s-Clothing/Jeans/Key/Key-Industries-48011-Relaxed-Fit-Denim-Logger-Dungarees.axd  I have also bought carhartt logger dungarees from sierra trading post...   Buy without hesitation... I've done business with all these folks... This stuff will hold your dungarees and everything else up...   leroy

    We Be Stupid

Tricky has hit this one dead on the head brothers and sisters... Nothin left to say brother... Never take advice from a caged gorillia... Thanks for your insight brother...     leroy
  6. Fourtyfive... Love the holster... What maker...?   leroy
  7. Willis.... I've got a more pedestrian 442 that has a gizmo called "the plug" installed... In a nutshell, "the plug" is a filler for the hole for the key and a gizmo that removes the internal lock mechanism in my little pistola... It works like a charm... Ya might think about one; or simply find an older, non locked pistola... Here's a good starting place on "the plug".... http://www.smithandwessonforums.com/forum/s-w-gunsmithing/21068-plug.html   leroy
  8. Glock 27... I like it... Shoots very well... We do the "standard" reloading... 180 grain bullet 950 fps... Works like a charm... Nothin not to like about it... Brass is easy to come by... Easy to reload...   lerot
  9. A great idea... Where do we get one...?     357 leroy
  10. Another P238 (...original lost to oldest son...), a 3 inch j frame, and last, but not least, a 45 ACP birdshead vaquero...   leroy
  11. I'll join the glock chorus... Gotta glock 27 and a glock 33... I like 'em... I used to carry the 33 in the hip pocket of my dungarees in this holster...  http://www.lefthandholster.com/home-1.html It worked like a charm... Got IWB holsters for 'em too... Nothin not to like about them...   leroy
  12. Dave is right... Smith seems to be the greatest Glock imitator... Remember the great words of Shakespeare:...."...Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery..."... The Glock guys got it right... The rest of the semiauto pistol world knows that and it scurrying (...with the exception of S&W and Kahr... i think, at least...) to catch up...   leroy
  13. All.... Here is an interesting read from out buddies at the "Legal Insurrection" Blog this mornin about the high handed move by the VA Attorney General and the POS they have elected up there as Governor.... This one will be interestin to watch...   http://legalinsurrection.com/2015/12/what-if-va-dem-policitians-had-to-abide-same-anti-gun-rules-imposed-on-citizens/#more-155373   leroy
  14. Got a standard little speech for the grease and gun oil thing... Learned it from a world class gunsmith i'll not name... He said:... "Buy the one on sale at Brownells... They are all good..."... Personally, i like anything synthetic and moisture displacing... CLP is a pretty good example... I think we've got some Slip2000 grease and oil around here too... Grease the frame rails, as others have said, with just a touch of grease... Oil and wipe down everything else... leroy
  15. "SA" is Springfield Armory... I think...  The "flaming bomb" is a ordinance inspector's acceptance stamp for final inspection... The date is the date inspected...   We've got several marked like that...   leroy
  16. Who cares what these "tree top" nubians think about anything... I don't like 'em on principal and i dont watch em... The hell with them... I dont take advice on serious issues from unserious people... Neither should you...   leroy
  17. I'll add to the Dillon chorus... I simply don't believe ya can do better than a Dillon....   leroy
  18. Folks... Ya need to remember that Seattle is San Francisco north... Ya have all these hippie idiots that have migrated to the pacific northwest and wrested control of Seattle from the indigenous natives...They are plague on the state... Seattle is no different from Kalefornia and New York when it comes to these things...   leroy
  19. I'll echo the chorus of praise for the DW revolvers... I've had several, liked them all; and im a Smith guy... The one currently residing in our safe is an 8 inch 22lr DW... It shoots better than i can hold... They are well made and very accurate... Buy without hesitation....   leroy
  20. I'm a 38 super affectionado... Got a series seventy in honored retirement... They are a great pistola... Grayfox54's excellent post above pretty well sums up the 38 super story...  They were the original "magnum" auto pistol cartridge... They are flat shooters with low recoil in the full size gubmt models... There is a lot to like about the 38 super if ya handload... My 357 sig glocks do the duty the super once did... Think of the 38 super as a 357 sig and ya wont be far off the mark...   leroy
  21. prag...   We used to shoot quite a bit of 308 thru a bolt gun, most all the reloads were military brass... As others have said, we've both hand reamed and swaged the primer pockets... I don't think it makes a big difference... What the swager (...we have a Dillon...) brings to the party is that it makes things easier on you... I never had any problems with brass done either way... We always sized, trimmed, and chamfered the cases, then we either reamed or swaged the primer pockets and cleaned them well... We used, just as you are doin, a hand priming tool to prime the brass, and loaded it on a single stage press...   leroy
  22. Some of the most perfectly finished semiauto handguns ive ever handled were FN Browning Hipowers... They are a work of art... As to reliablility... They are as reliable as any semiauto can be with good magazines... As to shooting... They shoot like a dream... If ya are into 9mm, ya need a hipower...    leroy
  23. just... Got one in 450 Bushmaster... Looks ta be a top quality barrel... Not much shootin done with it yet...   leroy
  24. The president cannot declare martial law unilaterally... Martial law has been declared historically in the united states when the civil authorities cannot keep the peace... No one in state government or in the congress is goin along with martial law...  Things are pretty bad, but obama aint lincoln and the states sure aint gonna let him get away with this one...   leroy
  25. The "...it costs more to manufacture..." answer from brother Garufa is right... Round nose bullets and non hollowpoints take less manufacturing... The "magic" flowered hollowpoints of today have a hollow nose and a folded bunch of "petals" over that nose... At the minimum, it takes 3 additional manufacturing steps to make... Cut the petals, cast the nose or stamp in the hollowpoint cavity, fold the "petals" over the nose...   leroy
