I love these old 45 Colts too... A favorite, right next to the great 44 special... Thanks for the "show and tell"... I've burned lotsa powder thru the old model blackhawks in 45 colt, back when it was the latest craze... The hot loaded 45 colt is the equal of anyone's 44 mag balistically (...using the old data...)... There is no substantial difference in 'em... I don't do that anymore... Got too old and too weak ta hold em... Now the loads are in the "real" 45 colt range; with my all-time favorite loading black powder loads and soft cast bullets... We only have eleven 45 colts at the house... One smith, two colts, and eight rugers of various flavors... Ya can't have too many 45 colts... leroy...

Hozzie makes a good point here... It has been well know for a long while that black crime far outweighs it's relative population size...

I've read with interest and not a little bit of chortling about the "dialogue" thing RE: "Black Oppression"... I'm sorry, i ain't buyin this one, and here's why: 1. We elected a black president not once, but twice... He proved to be the worst president since Civil War Reconstruction, and presided over one of the most onerous, one sided political establishments in our country's history. There was no "Resistance" or Civil Disobedience or ANTIBARAK insurgency... 2... We had a "Black Separatist Zealot"as Attorney General under his administration... Stridently "anti everybody" but people of color, and crooked... He is still not in jail, nor will anyone touch him... We endured him, and the spineless political class let him run wild... 3... These two Creteons together emboldened the "Poor Put Upon People of Color Class", the "Thug Class", and their handlers... They were busy runnin wild at places like Fegruson... Ya see it everywhere... Welcome to "BLM" and ANTIFADA... 4... This "emboldenment of the thug class has resulted in a bunch of em gettin shot... It's pretty simple, really... Comply with police requests, and ya generally don't get shot... Fight em, ignore em, try to run over em, or try to run away from em... Get shot... Pretty simple, i think... 5... The current atmosphere in this country is as polarized now as ive ever seen it, and im 72 years old... There was nothing close to this during Viet Nam, and it was very hot then... This whole thing is nothin more than another front in the "Resistance to Trump", which is nothin more than code words for "We're not accepting a duly elected official, nor those who voted for him (..or her..)... It's a demand for mob rule, pure and simple... The end of this little soliloquy; ya ain't gonna get much "dialog" in an atmosphere such as the one we are experiencing now... The "Anti" bunch doesn't want a dialogue; and those who see things the other way are gettin tired of being put upon... This this will have to be won one way or the other... If not at the ballot box, and these idiots marginalized politically; it will be done with the cartridge box... Some of em seem to want that pretty badly... watchin leroy...

I understand what ya are sayin... My point is that they can exercise this option if they want.. Notice the recent turn of events with some of the teams... "...We will stand for the anthem"... I'll guarantee ya that they were told that the team had the option to boot them for cause, and that it would hold up in court... I'm in no way defending the NFL, it's players, owners, and those who enable them... I'm pointing out that some here on this forum seem to believe that you have "...unlimited, uninhibited right to say what you want or otherwise express your self as you see fit, and whereever you see fit to do so..."... It aint so, unless you are self-employed.. As DaveTN said so wisely the other day:..."...Your rights are well intact and established..."... Just remember that there can be consequences from acting on them... leroy

FYI... I'm beginning to notice some interesting comments about "...the right to freedom of expression..." ... I want ta remind ya'll that the "Employment Contract" has been ruled to supersede the employee's right to "...express his feelings..." many times... Said another way; "...If you are under contract to an employer who has specific rules concerning your conduct, your employer is within his right to fire you if you violate them..."; and they regularly do... This is not an unusual situation in most any professional occupation, from sports, to engineering, to consulting, etc, etc... Ya get the picture... I'll guarantee you that the NFL (...and all other entities like them, that depend on public perceptions of them...) have 'em... Don't be dragged off into the weeds by those who say, in effect, "...You have unlimited right of expression no matter the platform or time..."... You don't if you are employed by someone that ain't you... I worked many a year for a company i wont name that had that clause in their employment contract... It was an utility company... leroy...

Stormfront white supremacist summit heads to Crossville this weekend
leroy replied to tennessee1911's topic in General Chat
This is good stuff... Somewhere in the "Leroy Film Archives" ive got a great bunch of snapshots from the late 70's or early 80's of these boys in their "uniforms" at a great Fourth of July Watermelon Slicing (...no joke...) and Meet n Greet Rally in a big field just across US 441 from the Meridian Baptist Church in South Knox County... It was funny then; i think it's funny now... Never interrupt anyone makin a fool of themselves... As The God-Man said:.. "... Do not cast your pearls before the swine... They may turn on you and rend you to pieces..."... I say; if the Antifascist can gather; so can the White Supremacists... Here's hopin that they both meet in the same time and greatly confligrate... Laughin and Watchin leroy... Watchin to the west for the big blow up in Cumberland County... -
I say:..."...Come on down little Bolsheviks and "Criminal Froth", as the great Baldwin-Felts Detectives called the old time union organizers in the twenties... Let's see whatcha got..."... I'm like the great "Granny Hawkins" in the Clint Eastwood Classic "The Outlaw Josey Wales"... "...I don't think that big talk means squat doodley..."... Watchin leroy... The Anti Antifada ... By the way, i'm armed... Lotsa others are too...

There has been enough platitudinous malarkey written here and other places to fertilize Texas... Some of us here (...me, at least...) think this whole thing is part of a bigger issue... That issue is the Post Modern World View that seeks to de-construct everything... period... That includes government (...especially, if it's a republican form of government...), the legal system (...no one should be oppressed, questioned, or detained by brutal police, even if he resists or does something dangerous and stupid; especially if he is "a person of color"...), The Capitalist System (...It's oppressive and some folks get more than others... that aint fair...), White People (...they are the original colonialist, expansionists, oppressors ya know... All indigenous peoples are greater than them...They had a paradise before the white man came...), and lastly; its about "... I don't like the duly elected president of this country and i'll politicize everything in an attempt to make him look bad and spit on everyone of you country bumpkins who voted for him..."; and i may even spark enough civil unrest to undo everything that the 2016 election brought to the USA... We can quibble about whether Trump should have started this conflagration; but it's irrelevant... He did... On a personal basis and from a political standpoint, I think it was a masterful move that allowed him to wrap himself in the flag, tap into the disgust of most working Americans, and call out and expose for all to see the over-privileged babys of the NFL, their enablers, and cheerleaders as what they really are... A bunch of Overbearing, Selfish, Anti-Law and Order, Self-Centered Anti-everything but what they think is appropriate on all levels nitwits... It's playing the "tribal game" that the demorats love so well on his terms... A helluva idea, i think... It paints these clowns for exactly what they are... There are those here who think that somehow their freedoms have been lessened as the result of this feud... I got news; they aint... Just because some official of government (...Trump..) says somethin ya don't like on a personal basis; it doesn't follow that it smacks of "suppression of political expression" and disbandment of "The Arena of Ideas"... Far from it... It doesn't follow that their speech, no matter how heinous and distasteful to some ears, has somehow nullified the Bill of Rights and the Constitution... You enjoy the same right to "speak in the public forum" and be free of government oppression for it that you always did (...except for when the demorats were runnin things... Ask some of the right leaning groups about it that had to talk to the IRS...), no matter what Donald Trump says, and no matter who he picks a verbal slug fest with...He said his piece; they are sayin theirs... That's how it works here with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights; which these narcissistic babies, and some of you here seem to think is a one way street... You need to think a bit and understand that right of "Freedom of Speech" in the Arena of Ideas extends to all citizens... Even the president... Think about that a bit... It includes, you, me, "them", even the Trumpster... The lesson here is that there are lotsa folks, some of them here, that need a civics lesson... I aint nearly as afraid of Donald Trump takin away anyone's freedoms, as i am the mindless bunch of children and the damned Democrats and Establishment Republicans takin em away... Your mileage may vary... Thus endeth the lesson... Rantin leroy, the "Free Speech for All" zealot...

The hell with the whole lot of 'em... As others have wisely opined; the best way to show your disdain for all this bunch of over-privileged trash is to not spend money with em or watch their games... I say:..."...Let's play the "Protest America and Capitalism Game"... The great majority of these clowns would be workin a real job if it weren't for the benevolence of "Rich White Capitalists" and the "Unfair Capitalist System" that has made these moronic children of lower estate millionaires... That is the irony of this whole debacle... These dip-willies are busy murderin and blasphemin the "Capitalist Golden Goose" that laid their personal golden egg... The same could be said of some of these "Anti-Capitalist" sons and daughters of privilege like Godell and others... Go get a real job chump... If ya don't like the "Climate of Oppression" here in America, go to North Korea or Iran... bye bye loosers... leroy... The Anti-NFL Zealot... PS.. Here is a bit more erudite analysis of this sorry situation that ya may want ta take a look at... Very insightful, i think..http://thefederalist.com/2017/09/25/nfl-protests-are-the-dead-end-of-resistance-culture/#.WckhGGdv3VY.facebook

I've carried em all and shot em all... The old Ruger Blackhawk will be lighter if it's a 4 5/8 barrel, and just as powerful (...if you handload...)... As others have said, it's 6 one way and half a dozen the other.. Pick the one ya feel the most comfortable with... That's the one to use... Have fun... leroy

City of Knoxville Mayor Banning guns on street

What Prag said Sunfish.... The ziplock bag trick or a variant using waxed paper strips wrapped around the pistol are my "go to" fixes for loosening up a leather holster... Don't put anything on the leather to soften it... Just stretch it a bit... I also will lube the inside of the holster a bit with Sno Seal sometimes to help with the draw... Leather holsters take a bit of time to break in... leroy

Ya did good brother... These are great little pistolas... We've got a dear friend's dad n law's old I Frame with a 3 inch barrel and "sunday go to meetin" pearl grips CIRCA early 1900's, i would guess... I love the little "J" frames of any flavor, but the model 31's are special... Enjoy... adimrin leroy...

Esko... I use an ancient RCBS balance scale... Probably 40 years old... I use an old RCBS adjustable powder measure as well... I check every 10 charge on the scale if i'm usin a single stage press (..which i do most of the time...)... I keep the powder pretty full in the hopper... I never worry about a tenth of a grain on 10 grains or less for medium and medium fast burners (...Unique, 231,Titegroup...) , or two tenths over 10 grains if it's slow burning powder (... 2400, H4227, 296...)... Hope this helps... leroy

Esco... I always resize the brass, flare it as little as possible to get the bullet started to seat, and use a bit of a taper crimp... The 9 and ACP dies should be taper crimp dies... I measure the outside of the case at the case mouth with the bullet seated with a dial caliper or a micrometer, note the reading, and adjust the taper crimp die to crimp about .002 tighter than the original "no crimp" reading... It works well for me... Lotsa folks who bulk reload will tell ya this aint necessary... I kinda like it anyway... Bullet pull (...the amount of squeeze the case puts on the seated bullet...) and crimp is important with slow burning powders like the heay kickers use... Not so much with the faster powders... I like the crimp thing to make sure that the bullets wont set back on recoil and feeding with the semiatuos... RE: "Reloading number of times on the cases"... Resize em every time (....i think this is far more important than the taper crimp, by the way...) and reload em till ya see a case mouth split... When they split, toss em... I tend to keep my cases separate in 100 to 400 piece batches.... They will tend to go bad together... When ya get tired of sorting the splits, toss em all... Hope this helps a bit... leroy

Bill.... There used to be a big "Rendevous" up about the "Cedars of Lebanon" state park every year... Evidently there is a good concentration of buckskin flintlock men there... There used to be a great "over the log" muzzle loader shoot at the Alvin York Homeplace... I think (...that means im not sure...) the "Rendevous" used to take place in the early fall... The "over the log" shoot at the homeplace happens in late march/early april... I've attended the "over the log" shoot... It's a great time, indeed... Well worth anyones trip up to The York Homeplace to attend... Both these places would make a great place to make some contacts... There is also a pretty good bunch of 'em over in east tenneasee around Limestone that are history re-enactors for the Davy Crockett homeplace... Remember, Tennessee was the 16 th state admitted to the union with deep roots in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812... Ya shoud be able to find some "flintlock men" out theere pretty easily... I would nose around and inquire about all three of these venues... Good luck... leroy

I understand... A "squib" will sober ya up, no matter the source... The advice about paying attention before pulling the trigger on the next round is golden... I've handloaded for the last 40 years or so... Never had a rifle round squib, but have had some revolver squibs... Mostly from lotsa slow burning powder, like 296, in 44 mags or 45 colts... Lotsa times the handload squibs are from poor bullet pull... That's why its so important to size the brass well and crimp the bullets in the heavy duty revolver loads... leroy....

Murgatroy.... My experience is from being around this stuff for about 40 or so years and understanding it somewhat... On a personal basis, i believe that the "...Hiding my head in the sand..." is a bit hyperbolic.. Believe what ya will... I'll be a bit less dismissive when ya are talkin about somethin other than speculating on what a bored kid can do... Ya probably need a job with the NSA... disbelievin leroy... The cynic...

"The Grid" is an inter-tie of transmission lines that various utilities operate... The total power system of the US and Canada is also called "The Grid"... Each utility has specific "inter-tie" points where systems are close to each other so that one utility can supply surplus power to utilities that may need it... The various utilities that make up "The Grid" can operate autonomously within their specific territories, and they often do in temperate weather when all the systems have enough capacity to meet their specific need for the individual power system... The only way to bring down "The Grid" is to identify and sabotage those specific inter-ties, then shut down each regional utilities generating units... That aint the stuff that some brat playin an xbox game can do in his mommies basement... Even if ya could, each system could be back up in a matter of minutes to hours by switching to local control... These power "Grids" have been operating since the early 1900's... They all have redundant operating systems... Lotsa things operated very well before computer control... lectric leroy...

The "Old, decrepit grid" problem is a "Red Herring"... The transmission lines are in good shape that intertie between utilities and with local utilities that distribute power to you, the consumer... Some of them are, indeed, "old" but the towers are very well built and maintained... I worked for a time on this stuff... The lattice line towers are old designs, but are quite serviceable... About the only thing that goes bad on them is the insulators, that are replaced as needed... The company i worked for measured their line outage time in minutes/year, and ive sat in several award dinners where that time was less than 10 minutes/ year... The breakers, transformers, and switchgear; as well as the control systems are maintained scrupulously... That's why your lights are hardly ever off... If the lights are off; nine times out of ten, it's the local utilities problem... That is generally due to a bad storm, an accident that knocks a pole down, or lightnin strike on a transformer... It's more obfuscation and hopeful pandering for dollars to pass out to the brothrs n sister crooks... When you pay your utility bill, you are, in fact, payin for infrastructure upgrades... leroy... The "anti-bureaucrat" and "lie detector" curmudgeon...

I'm calling BS on the power gird thing... This is nothin but more windbaggery and a hopeful attempt to make the populus more afraid of a "nameless, faceless, them" by a jackass that is on the public dole in the bureaucracy... The two most likely candidates for this sort of thing are China and Russia... They are trading partners... If we have this kind of problem, how long do ya think it would take even the yahoos peddlin this baloney to find the out....? My guess is about 30 minutes on a slow day.... I can buy the idea that north korea, iran, and some of the middle east yahoos might want ta do this... If they could have, the would have...? What keeps em frrom doin it...? Fear of retaliation and Providence... The "power grid" thing is just like "the astroid hittin the earth thing"... More hopeful attempts to conjure up a dooms day scenerio to make you, the citizen, more compliant, fearful, and ever dependent upon the superior intellect of the "washington insider bureaucratic class"... leroy the "anti BS curmudgeon" and foe of the bureaucracy...
