The "Old, decrepit grid" problem is a "Red Herring"... The transmission lines are in good shape that intertie between utilities and with local utilities that distribute power to you, the consumer... Some of them are, indeed, "old" but the towers are very well built and maintained... I worked for a time on this stuff... The lattice line towers are old designs, but are quite serviceable... About the only thing that goes bad on them is the insulators, that are replaced as needed... The company i worked for measured their line outage time in minutes/year, and ive sat in several award dinners where that time was less than 10 minutes/ year... The breakers, transformers, and switchgear; as well as the control systems are maintained scrupulously... That's why your lights are hardly ever off... If the lights are off; nine times out of ten, it's the local utilities problem... That is generally due to a bad storm, an accident that knocks a pole down, or lightnin strike on a transformer... It's more obfuscation and hopeful pandering for dollars to pass out to the brothrs n sister crooks... When you pay your utility bill, you are, in fact, payin for infrastructure upgrades... leroy... I'm calling BS on the power gird thing... This is nothin but more windbaggery and a hopeful attempt to make the populus more afraid of a "nameless, faceless, them" by a jackass that is on the public dole in the bureaucracy... The two most likely candidates for this sort of thing are China and Russia... They are trading partners... If we have this kind of problem, how long do ya think it would take even the yahoos peddlin this baloney to find the out....? My guess is about 30 minutes on a slow day.... I can buy the idea that north korea, iran, and some of the middle east yahoos might want ta do this... If they could have, the would have...? What keeps em frrom doin it...? Fear of retaliation and Providence... The "power grid" thing is just like "the astroid hittin the earth thing"... More hopeful attempts to conjure up a dooms day scenerio to make you, the citizen, more compliant, fearful, and ever dependent upon the superior intellect of the "washington insider bureaucratic class"... leroy the "anti BS curmudgeon" and foe of the bureaucracy...

Two juveniles charged for starting Sevier Co. wildfires
leroy replied to xsubsailor's topic in General Chat
Brothers n Sisters.... Keep this in mind... These two miscreants are obviously children of privilege... None other than the great Knoxville barrister Greg Isaacs... A worthless, ruthless, cunning but very effective high priced defense lawyer is these kids lawyer... My guess is that there is some sort of "quid pro quo" goin on here between the States Attorney and others un-named... Those charged with being honorable officers of the state court seem to be dismissing that these kids contributed in a major way to the conflagration that took fourteen lives and burned close to a billion dollars worth of property... That very idea seems very strange (...and suspect...) to me... Now we have heard a fantastic pronouncement from the States Attorney that says that "it cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt that these two hoodlums were the sole cause of the conflagration"... While this may not be proved that these two little hoodlums were the "sole cause"; i think it's a slam dunk that their actions contributed to the devastation...They were, in fact, "accessories" at the minimum... I'm convinced that that being an "accessory and contributor" to this sort of devastation is a felony... Finally; there is a great double standard here, im thinkin... If this had been a couple of us old curmudgeons on this forum, i'm bettin that we would at the minimum, be charged (...and convicted... i think...) of at least 14 counts of second degree murder... Remember this, we have no real justice system; we have a "justice enterprise" where deals are made every day, and justice is tossed out the window... I think that is the case here... We have the best justice system that money can buy... Remember Jimmy Dunn... He is the States Attorney for this district... http://www.seviercountytn.gov/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=278&Itemid=277... I fully intend to vote against him when his term is up... You should too... Rememberin leroy... -
Brother Dave has hit the nail square on the head... This right here is the truth of the matter... No one with a smidgen of intelligence nor critical thinking skills would voluntarily go to N. Korea in the first place... It is breathtaking to me that some folks who do these things don't seem to get the idea that the Constitution and the Bill of Rights only work in the USA... Young Kim is a despotic dictator... Going to NK is akin to goin to see a deranged Genghis Khan with modern weapons and technology... Don't spend too much time analyzing this stuff... This tragedy was brought on by weak mindedness... The NK interrogators drugged Otto to death, and sent him home a zombie... Nothin more... leroy....

Mac.... Back in the old days, i did some looking and estimating on the Nolichucky... The river is beautiful, but shallow... It's very sandy, due to dumping sand tailings from an old mica (...i think... old timers sydrome...) mining operation over in NC that was in operation for over 100 years... We looked at dredging the sand from the river to clean up the problems with river depth... The old Nolichucky Dam is now de-commissioned due to the build up of sand in the sluices and turbine intakes... Lotsa sand bars and shallow water all the way to the dam... The good news is that it's all beautiful... That's why the kayakers and the jet ski guys like it so much... leroy

There are ways that these folks can arm themselves... As others have opined... We dont need "polititian elitism" in toting weapons wherever they want... If we are a "Nation of Laws" (...which, by the way, i think we can quibble about...), they need to get their carry permit just like the citizens in their home districts get theirs... No more, no less... Period... "Fair dealin" leroy

DUKE... The bolt does, indeed, have to be fitted to the action... I would see if a local gunsmith might be able to obtain and fit a bolt, ta save ya from having to send it back to Remington... leroy

Dave.... Am about to install some ARLO stuff at my house to watch the doors... As near as i can tell, the ARLO basic subscription will "on demand" the camera... It will not do audio... Which i dont care about anyway.. The ARLO is 720 p day and nite... They are a helluva lot easier to put up than the hard wired ones and im old and gimped... The ARLO was an easy choice for me... leroy

Brothers n Sisters... I've recently come into possession of a lightly used, lovingly cared for Ruger Vaquero Single Six in 32 HR Magnum... Do any of ya reload for him, and do ya have any "pet loads" for plinking and repelling boarders...? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance... "32" leroy....

Not exactly "regulated"... "Watched" is more appropriate... Those that get power from TVA are audited for compliance with the Coop thing regarding being "not for profit"... That means that all the excess dollars go back into infrastructure improvements or as rebates to customers or lowering rates; the idea being that Coops operate at a "zero profit margin"... Im sure one of the "metrics" that the TVA uses is customer service; but the big hitters are the dollars... There are some outside oversight organizations to these coops at the state level somewhere... Ya can always rat em out to your local state and federal reps... leroy...

Greg... Do a bit of detective work and see if your utility is, indeed, a rural electric coop, or regular utility... All these guys report to someone... They absolutely hate negative publicity... Look around a bit see who they report to... leroy

I love CZ's... Got an old Nazi eagle/swastika marked CZ27 32ACP... Great shooter... It looks like it has been carried in the overall (... or field jacket...) pocket so long all the blue is worn off... No war stories with it; but i would bet some american farmer carried this one a bit after it was "liberated"... My other "not so mainstream" is an old, early twentieth century, I Frame smith 32 round butt that has been re-nickled... The barrel is dark from the old black powder rounds... Three inch, round butt, real pearl grips... Belonged to a dear friend's father in law... The friend is now "gone over the Sunset Hill"... He was in his nineties and has been gone probably 10 years... leroy
