TN Legislature discussion on State Nullification
leroy replied to leroy's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
RED... I think the " slippery slope " opinion is well founded. The big hitter here in my mind is the fact that it's being discussed at all. Greg Abbott in TX and Ron DeSantis in FLA have already fired the " across the bow " shots on the Feds NOT ENFORCING federal law with no consequences. The reason ( I think ) is that they are in the right. The federal gubt cannot pick n choose which federal laws to enforce based on their particular proclivities. That's why the feds ain't moved on it. The next step ( And the step that the original Articles of Confederation envisioned ) is individual state nullification of federal law. We're living in interesting times Brother... leroy... -
TN Legislature discussion on State Nullification
leroy posted a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's very interesting ( to me at least ) that the issue of State Nullification of Federal Law is being discussed. This has peeked it's head up a few times in recent past during the Haslam gubernatorial years over some federally sponsored 2A related issues. I think it's very interesting that it keeps percolating beneath the surface of TN state politics. Some Mountain City / Johnson County, TN proof of local EMA clownishness n incompetence. Note the local reply... https://www.thetomahawk.com/news/community/johnson-county-ema-struggles-with-donation-logistics/article_024468d6-82a2-11ef-a27d-cfd71fc4db66.html leroy...

Folks... The FEMA folks will do nothing more than hand out dollars for storm cleanup and infrastructure repairs. They may pass a few dollars along to those affected by the storms n flooding, but it will be little n late. That's what the gubt does. I've got several buddies that worked part time for FEMA after retirement, they surveyed n assessed the cost of storm cleanup, infrastructure damage and the like. They always took up motel space and drove around surveying damage, nothin more. I think the TN national guard is, in fact, helping to clean up storm debris, take care of logistics for relief supplies, n fly them into remote areas. I see that as a good thing simply because of the tools and manpower the guard has. That said; I DO BELIEVE there are some shenanigans goin on in Johnson County, TN and probably in some isolated Western Carolina counties. I'ma thinkin these are local issues where sheriff's n local state emergency management folks are becoming the wannabe tyrants they always were. As to Western NC; I think that the ratty governor of NC could care less about Western NC. As to the " local tyrants "; affected folks will take due note of who they are and get rid of em in due time at the ballot box. Getting rid of the governor will be a bit tougher I'ma thinkin. Meanwhile, there are plenty of lovely stories of outside groups helpin with the full support of gubt agencies. Problems are never fixed by gubt, nor kindness shown by them. It's always the kindness of benevolent groups n individuals that make the difference. Please continue to give time and treasure to those who are helping these folks; they are doing a whole bunch of good where it counts. The gubt ain't gonna help anyone in the short run, they never do. leroy...

Dear folks... The recent flooding in Greene, Cocke, Unicoi, and other East TN counties is the worst I've ever seen in my 78 years. I've been searching for a way to donate as close as possible to ground zero on this. The water supply systems in these counties ( 15 of em I'ma thinkin ) has simply been wiped out by the flooding, and these folks need food n water badly... That said, I'm asking for those closest to this tragedy to post any worthy local organizations that need dollars for supplies. I'ma thinkin churches, benevolent organizations and others, so we can build a list of " the worthy " and help these folks who do desperately need help now. I'll start off with one. " The Mission of Hope " here in Knoxville. They have already set up a giving page. The First Baptist Church at Erwin, TN can also accept donations. https://www.erwinfirst.org/ Our Man Johnny " B " also has some info here: Thanks a bunch... leroy

Case lube?Hornady,Dillion, or Frankford Arsenal?
leroy replied to jeff43's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Ta add to what krunchnik opined, I've sized a many a straight walled pistol case in steel dies with no other lube on my hands than the natural oil on the hand. That said, the real answer for pistols is carbide dies, and for bottle necked rifles, a real good lube. I like Imperial Sizing Wax a lot... leroy.. -
In my feeble mind, the idea of OC ( other than hunting, woods walking, or on the farm ) gives away the greatest advantage of a pistola, which is surprise. The revolutionary war was won generally on the element of surprise. It works. In the two recent times I've needed an equalizer, it's sudden appearance made the difference. Nobody likes ta suddenly see a pistola in the hands of an old crunudgeonly geezer they thought they could easily push around. leroy...

Question : Would you buy locally made Ammo?
leroy replied to DraxTheDad's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I think there is always a ready market for quality products. Look at Georgia Arms and Precision Delta as examples. They have a loyal and dedicated following... Best of luck..! leroy... -
Ed... I've done just that. There is a guy who does CAS gunsmithing that I've been in contact with. He is a shooter as well as a gunsmith. He runs a shop out of his house. I'm gonna try to meet with him sometime next week. I'll let call know how this works out as we get further along in this little project. leroy...

I'll second pop pop's story RE. " Close range confrontation ". I've pulled my pistola twice in recent years to calm down threats. I saw them starting a good way away from me. They ended pretty close when they heard the last warning to stop n saw the pistola pointed. I'ma guessin in one case about 10 yards and the other about 5 yards. For what it's worth. leroy...

The son dug an old series 70 Colt gubmt model out of the safe the other evenin and I handled it for a while. It re- reminded me how great they are. I went ahead and rounded me up a Fusion Freedom ( gubt with good sights, beaver tail, n skeletonized hammer ) to shoot a bit. I finally took it out the other day n shot it. I like it alot, the problem is my 78 year old hands are wearing out. I'm letting the pistola twist in my grip a bit, and it ain't lockin the slide back on the last round. I like the Fusion alot, I just need a bit more wrist n hand strength. I'ma guessin that that trip was the first time in 40 years I've shot one. They are a great pistola, plenty of power and an extra good trigger. There ain't nothing like a gubt model... leroy...

As Smith has said; the extended magazines in the CR920 essentially makes him a 43X. That's how I carry mine, as I have pretty large hands. More than that; the extra mags are a whoppin $ 25 as I remember from the Shadow Systems website. They are most excellent... leroy..

I fully agree. I have slicked several percussion pistolas up, but I wuz hopin to find a Cowboy Action smith who might save me the effort. I'm getting lazy in my old age...SIGH... Here5hopin a CAS Smith appears who does this stuff here in the next little while. Otherwise, I'll have ta do it myself... SIGH... lazy leroy...

I think that parents have to come to grips with the great truth that the education profession at the managerial and political level is, by and large, an idealistic, even jhadistic group of folks who; on the whole, disagree with the Second Amendment and intend to usurp its implementation in school self defense in every way possible. They tend operate under the Ole " we are experts and we know best " axiom of all those who know what's best for us " Delightful Rustics " and their progeny. After all, they are experts and the smartest people in the room. That is exactly why teachers should be teachers and SROs should be charged with the protection of life and limb in schools. The " Armededucator " is a very distinct minority in the teaching profession. I am thankful that he is willing to speak the truth and stand up for the protection of students in his care. I think there are other educators who would selflessly sacrifice their personal safety to stop a shooter, but could not bring themselves to shoot back to stop a threat when seconds count. We have seen this over and over thru several of these tragedies. leroy...

RE: " Selectivity "... We spent quite a few hours n a few bucks with Hamilton. Toward the end of the " Real " Colt era ( think 80s thru early 2000s ), he said it was almost impossible to get Colt SAA parts. As I remember, the colt clone parts thing was a problem as well, along with the hit or miss quality of replacement parts. I think that many times, the gunsmiths will specialize in things they can readily find parts for and things they are passionate about. That allows them to deliver repairs and mods to us gun folk in a reasonably timely manner. No one wants to wait 6 months to possibly years for their special repair or project to be completed. Hamilton likes slicking up and modifying all flavors of Rugers and Smiths. More Rugers than anything else, just as papa has said. He did some absolutely beautiful work on two third generation Colts for us, along with a couple of Ruger single actions. He is, in fact, an artist as well as a great gunsmith; and a lovely, professional, kind, and gentlemanly man as well. He is, indeed, a credit to the artisan gunsmith craft as well as being a thoroughly lovely man. I know of no better craftsman, artist, or gentleman in the guncraft business. I have the highest regard for him in every sense of the word. leroy...

I fully agree, if I can talk him into doing it... Hamilton won't hardly work on a " clone " or a real colt anymore... It is worth a try, however... Many thanks Brother... leroy..
