  1. Greg... The thing with the guitar is the "what are ya gonna use it for" thing... My bunch (...not me...my youngin...) is pretty musical... Everything gets played here... The best thing is to play or have someone play 'em all... Pick the one you like... Ya got two great places there in Nashville... One is George Gruhn's pace, Gruhn's Guitars, the other is Carter Vintage Guitar right down the street... Ease on over there and take a look, and remember this; all guitars aint equal from any manufacturer... It's kinda like pickin a girlfriend or wife; pick the one you like... For what it's worth, Joe has a Golden Era D18 that i think is out of this world... If ya are old enough to remember the great Earl Scruggs playin the gospel lead ins on the guitar; they were done with a D18... Probably a 1930's era one... A simple mahogany guitar with an adirondack (...red spruce...) top... listenin leroy...
  2. Thanks for the kind replies... No subsonic or esoteric loads... This would be a genuine rifle... leroy...
  3. Garufa speaks a great truth here... Don't draw any conclusions from what a bunch of 50/50 yankee/hoodlum demorat yahoos in florida do... Rick Scott has no core values, he is a damned politician positioning himself for a senate run... He is the Lamar Alexander of Florida right now... He cares about nothing other than building a constituency to become a senator... It will be interestin to watch how this plays out... Watchin leroy...
  4. Brothers n Sisters... Once again i find myself wantin to build a 300 Blackout 16 inch barrel upper... Please school me as to your recommendations as to the best barrel, gas system, bolt, etc for this endeavour... The upper would have a simple free float handguard and tritium iron sights... Thanks a bunch in advance... 300BO leroy...
  5. What Monkeylizard said... leroy...
  6. Greg... RE: "The 1911 siren song".... It happens with all real pistoleros Brother... It did with me years ago (...in the 70's and 80's...)... I reloaded and burned lotsa powder thru em with round nose hardball... I carried a gubmt model and a commander as well... Grew to like the LW commanders better than any of the others... Don't carry em anymore... Too old and curmudgeonly to do so, and the Colts are too valuable to carry... Sadly, i think time has passed em by, like that great old killer the SAA and the great Smith "N" frames... Havin said all that, it is my belief that every finished pistolero owes it to themselves to own and learn to shoot proficiently the great 1911... Preferably a genuine Colt Gubmt Model... Remember, Brothers n Sisters, the 1911 was birthed as a cavalry pistol to replace that greatest of pistols ever, the Colt SAA... There are tales of the old troopers refusin to turn their beloved SAA's for the newfangled 1911, as well as tales of em rawhiding down the grip safety on em to make sure they went off when they needed to... The "Cocked n Locked" thing came after the calvary died... The old timers carried em hammer down or on the half cock and cocked em to shoot ALA the old SAA... They put the safety on after the shootin was over... HEHEHE... calvary leroy, the lefty 1911 pistolero....
  7. Our gal just made Drudge... https://www.tennessean.com/story/news/2018/02/22/megan-barry-affair-nude-cell-phone-photos-deleted-chats-may-show-evidence-crime-mayor-megan-barry/360898002/ laughin leroy....
  8. To add a bit to the Turnbull thing; he has the tools to re-mark Colts with the old markings... We had him do a blue and case job several years ago on a 44 special SAA... He did the old "44 russian and special" two line address just like the old originals... He does great work.. Remember "Restoration" is in his name... They do lotsa great stuff... leroy
  9. ak... Did he let ya handle it...? How was the trigger... ? I like the idea myself... leroy
  10. Every devoted single action pistol man or woman owes it to their selves to own at least one Colt SAA or New Frontier and one Vaquero and an old time Blackhawk... Thanks for posting the great photo Bob... single action leroy the pistolerio...
  11. Congratulations David... They are, indeed, great little pocket knives... I love mine... leroy...
  12. Remember... Ya get the government ya deserve... The inner city dwellers of Nashville could care less if this less than stunning specimen of womanhood is a bit rambunctious and forgetful of her (...and others..) marriage vows... Lotsa them got the problem too... Just when i think the political class cant get any worse or trashier, it does... Bill Clinton says that "performance", not "character" is the only measure of public service... Welcome to Post-Modern Tennessee... leroy...
  13. There ain't much ta add to what has already been said... This is, indeed, a sad occurrence... It points out the general depravity of man and our tendency to do monstrous things to our brothers n sisters... It transcends all age groups, socio-economic groups, and ethnicities... There are lotsa voices saying lotsa bad things in our culture, and there always have been... Those voices have an effect on our society; some more than others... The great Friedrich Nietzsche said:.... "...If God be dead, all things are permissible..."... The idea; "No Law Giver, no laws to break"... You are the law... If you are the law, anything goes... The great Alistare Crowley said:... "... Do what you will; deny yourself nothing..."... If you are number one; by definition, everybody else is at least number 2... These beliefs can lead to some devastating results... The point of this ramble... Be mindful of what your children (...and you...) choose to believe... Talk with them... Most of all, know what you and they believe... Belief systems have consequences... When those beliefs are acted on; the consequences can be devastating... sad leroy...
  14. sub and all... We too, are afflicted with "single six" fever; no matter the flavor; from old to brand new... There is no better pistola to teach single action handling and point shooting with than the old single sixes... Ninety percent the size of a great Colt SAA and just about the same weight and balance... They are a great thing.... We have several; from old to new... My current favorite is a single six 32HR Vaquero 4 3/4 barrel... It's truly a work of art and a thing of beauty... I say:... "... Collect em all, Brother..."... Go for it, ya wont be dissapointed... single six leroy... The small frame curmudgeon...
  15. Mike and David... It is, indeed, sad... I also have in-law kinfolk from up there and i spent quite a bit of time both visitin and workin in the Paducah area... As i recall, this is the second round of shootings like this... There was one at Heath High School just west of Paducah several years ago... There are those who are pretty wise that think that the "kids shooting kids" thing is linked to Ritalin usage in children to treat ADHD... I think there is somethin to this theory... The problem with the Ritalin thing is that it's been endorsed and prescribed so long that it will be almost impossible to change, no matter the truth of the matter... No matter the cause, this is, indeed, a genuine tragedy... As to the collecting of guns and tightening of gun laws in Kentucky... It's ludacris on it's face... This area of kentucky is beautiful, rural, and full of hunters and shooters... More than that, it's on the Great Mississippi Flyway... Guns in every house and people that know how to use 'em... I think Giffords and that clown that leads her around need to make a trip to Western Kentucky and do a "Round em up... Give em up" rally... leroy
  16. Just done... Had ta change e-mail to gmail address... leroy
  17. Pop... Thanks for posting this great article... Interestin stuff, indeed... I think this is a very interesting and insightful thought.... This is the "elephant in the room" that no one wants ta talk about; as it smacks of all the forbidden issues; poor neighborhoods, dope, gangs, hooliganism, tribalism, and all the other things that are forbidden today... There are, indeed, bad neighborhoods where there are bad people... Like Pop says, "... If ya don't have to go ther, don't go..."... Excellent advice, indeed... Thanks for posting this insightful info... leroy...
  18. Mac hit the 64 bazillion dollar question here.... My guess is that it's small and gettin smaller as us old curmudgeons go over "The Sunset Hill"... There are lotsa folks out there that aint ever seen a slipjoint knife, i think... I generally keep a slip joint and a "tacticool" knife in my pocket at all times, but everybody aint like me... sad leroy...
  19. Hate ta see this... My guess is that they are done... Great Eastern Cutlery finished Queen in the high end slipjoint market, and Case finished em on the sensibly priced knife market... Here's hopin they survive, but i aint holdin my breath... slipjoint leroy the hawkbill curmudgeon...
  20. Bob.... RE: This.... I've burned powder by the pound thru a bicentennial 4 5/8 45 colt with the aluminum frame; along with an equally ancient 4 5/8 41 mag... Both with "hotrod loads" ya cant find in reloading manuals today... Both these fine old pistolas are still in tact today, after thousands of rounds down the pipe... There is nothin wrong with the "Alcoa" grip frames on these old pistolas... They are a bit lighter than the steel grip frames of today... They make the best "woods carry booger repellent" pistolas ever; including the great glocks... I know, as i carried one or the other of these oldtimers most every time i went shootin or walkin around... As i remember it; the wimpy cowboy action shooters clamored for the steel grip frames as a help in followup wimpy shots with wimpy loads... The bottom line; there is no finer pistola than the old ruger blackhawks... That from a curmudgeon that owns both blackhawks and colts sa's of both flavors... Your mileage, proclivities, and tastes may vary... leroy...
  21. Brothers n Sisters.... If you are a Ruger single action aficionado, this is a great deal... There were very few "Three Screw" 45 Colts of any flavor... Most of em were "New Models"... The last one i saw several years ago, i bought... It was north of $500 as i remember... These are great pistolas.... 45 leroy...
  22. Neat little pistola... Remember the words of Shakespere:.... "... Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery..."... Thank you Colt for the little mustang and thank you Sig for makin it a bit better... HEHEHE... All this from a curmudgeon with two 238's... 380 leroy...
  23. Greg... Call Hamilton Bowen at Bowen Classic Arms and see if he would be willing to work on it... Ya could drive it over to his place there at Louisville, TN... If the cylinder is loose, it make take a new cylinder bushing to fix... Sometimes he will work on these colts... I trust him completely with anything... He is a lovely man and is a genuine gunsmith artist... I would trust him with anything... period... Give him a call atPhone (865) 984-3583... E-mail shop@bowenclassicarms.com I recommend talking to him about the specifics of this one... leroy...
  24. Lightroom is hard to beat if ya don't do lots of editing at once... leroy....
  25. Best advice so far... Make sure the chamber is squeaky clean and look to see if ya see any scratches on the hood (...the top of the barrel chamber...)... I think Dave is most likely dead right... A thorough cleaning of the barrel and makin especially the chamber shiney may fix the problem... good luck and let us know... leroy
