  1. Yup... I like em... A bit more traditional, and the " right price "... leroy...
  2. See..! It's catchin... HEHEHE...
  3. Been thinkin the same thing Brother..!
  4. Another mania is taking hold of me in my old age... 9MM AR pistol or carbine... Build, by, or forget and keep shootin your pistolas.. Thoughts, experiences, recommendations, comments... " J Thaddius " leroy...
  5. The ones on sale... They are all good and the tritium comes from the same place (... I think...Ain't sure about Meprolight... Israeli...)... Mine are mostly that I described... leroy.
  6. My 650 setup is like yours deer... Separate toolbars for each caliber (... all mine are pistol..)... My problem wuz always twofold; the first wuz the powder measure setup; and the second, my compulsive need to look at every powder charge inside the case... There are gizmos n techniques to measure powder level (... Powder Cop depth gage...), but I simply can't shake the need ta look into the cases... That cuts the production time in half, for me, at least... I think lotsa times, I just too lazy to change the toolbars, verify the powder measure, and start reloading... I think the " real way " is to have a separate measure for each head, and to leave the adjustments alone... That's why I tend to just use the single stage and load a 100 rounds or so at a time... It's part of the " old n lazy " thing that comes to us old curmudgeons... leroy...
  7. I'm sorely tempted myself Brother..! I always wanted a long slide 1911 pistola... The " Tractor Beam " is exerting a powerful force in this direction... leroy...
  8. Mike makes a great point here.. I've got a progressive that I bought at a super sensible price... I hardly ever use it... I change things around too much... Most all the ammo I load is out of a single stage press, loaded about 100 rounds at a sitting... Progressives are at their best loading one caliber and one only, with one load recipe, in a relatively short time.. Usually, about 250 to 300 rounds/ hour in my experience ; not the 500 rounds/hour in the sales propaganda. That said; there is simply nothin better if ya shoot one recipe and shoot lots of it... They also have a serious downside... Ya better be super careful n usin em, and use a powder recipe that pretty much fills the case, so ya can see a double charge... Don't be distracted and be super careful...Do that, and the progressive thing is, indeed, great... Leroy.
  9. I'm a bit late to the reloading discussion party... I'm an old time reloader from the mid seventies... We did, and do reload everything... The great boon of reloading is, in fact, the ability to " taylor " loads to specific rifles (... And some pistolas...) think big revolvers and turnabolt rifles here; and sensible shooting costs for unusual or large calibers... We used to shoot between 500 and a thousand rounds of shotgun (...AA trap reloads..) and from 200 to 500 rounds of big pistols n rifle rounds every couple of weeks in the " old days " , depending on the mania... The big hitter for pistolas in the reloading days wuz loading the 44 and 45 stuff (... Both revolver n semiautomatic...) at a sensible price, and that is still true today... Shootin is about Shootin, and Shootin alot... Sadly, that wuz then and this is now... As I've gotten older, I've gotten lazier... No more shotgun..Sigh... Not much big revolver (... I reload about 500 rounds at a time anymore... 357...38 special hi speed...44 Special n Magnum, 45 Colt, and the new " manias"... 357 Sig, 10 MM, and 32H&R... ). If I shoot semiautos like 9 MM, 40 S&W, or 45 ACP, I buy reloads from Georgia Arms or new ammo from SG Ammo or Midway... I hate ta pick up brass from semiautos... Too o!d, gimped, n lazy... I'm also thinkin it's pretty hard ta beat the cost of 223 military, unless ya are loading match rounds... In summary, I would recommend heartily that all shooters do a bit of reloading... Ya may need your reloading cubbard filled in anticipation of that great n awful day when the " Rainbow UN " outlaws guns n ammo, and sends the fairy brigade door ta door...HEHEHE... In the mean time, it's a great hobby that is educational n practical... I think reloading has a great future with those of us that love all things gun related... leroy
  10. Yeaah..! What Mr TripleGGG said... I sure need one (... or more...)..! HEHEHE...
  11. As ya'll know, i get manias from time to time... Ya would think as old as i am, this would finally stop... This one is the 10MM long slide mania... What are your collective thoughts and experiences on the new Remington 1911 R, Springfield XDM 5.25, Glock 40, or custom build 10MM pistolas..? I've got 2 Glock 20' s (...4.6" barrels, im thinkin...), but wuz thinkin a bit about the advantages of a longer slide n barrel... At first glance, It looks ta me like buyin a complete " long slide " pistola will be about as cheap as buildin a custom long slide for one of my 20's... Whattday'all think..? Thanks in advance... " J Thaddius " leroy...
  12. A favorite source... Buy without hesitation...
  13. I carry a Glock 42 or a SIG P 238 as regularly as i put on my pants... One of them is my constant companion... I keep mine loaded with the 102 grain Remington Golden Sabers... They function just fine in both pistolas... If i'm goin into " The Frontier ", i also carry a big pistola as well.. Remember the words of the old Texas Ranger when the lady at the BBQ saw his SAA on his hip: ..." Are you expecting trouble sir..?"... He replied: " No mam, if i was, i would have brought my shotgun"... Remember, the best gun ya can have is the one that is with ya if ya need it... Dont worry about the caliber; work on shootin straight n true with the one you have when ya need it... Hope this helps... leroy

    .38 super???

I'm a grandpa 38 super affectionado. Got an o!d 70 series Colt in the safe... They are great to shoot, but ya need a barrel that headspaces on the case mouth ALA 9mm and 45 Auto... The original Colts spaced (... as others have noted...) on a tiny rim on the original supers... I'm thinkin that Colt finally fixed the problem sometime in the 80 s, but I ain't sure... My 70 series has the old barrel... Now in honored retirement... leroy...
  15. To add to what W said.. This is " The Place " for the shotgun lover... Lotsa fantastic scatterguns from utilitarian to fantastic... Highly recommended... I cant go down there much... Shotguns are a weakness for me, and now im too old ta use em... Sigh... leroy...
  16. Some interestin things here, not the least of which is Pop Pop' s insightful post above... As ive gotten older, two things have come to me, personally... First, ya need to carry or have with you a weapon you trust and are familiar with... There is no substitute for burnin lots of powder, and a " full size " gun makes that lots easier to do for everybody, no matter the age... Second, im big on the " two gun " idea... One physically on ya all the time, and a " full size " or " big gun " close at hand... Be it in the car, the truck, the RAZR, tractor, golf cart, or whatever... It dont matter if its a semiauto (..which i now prefer...), a big revolver (... like my 30 yr old and Pop pop prefer..), a sawed off shotgun, an AR ... ya get the picture... The main thing is to be able to shoot, n shoot well... The full size pistolas fill that bill for us old curmudgeons very well... Im always thrilled when i see us older guys at the range totin a great big bag, with a great big pistol... leroy...
  17. I like this Red..! A " real test "... leroy...
  18. This is me Brother..! I completely understand... Thanks to " All Ya'll " for sharing your thoughts... leroy...
  19. WF... I've used the Buffalo Bore in my Sig... It ain't bad to shoot... It will work just fine... If ya are concerned, order a new recoil spring from Sig... They probably need ta be changed every thousand rounds or so anyway, I'm thinkin.., Hope this helps... leroy
  20. Once again i am experiencing a mania kinda like J. THADDEUS TOAD in " The Wind and the Willows "... I'm thinkin about a long slide conversion for one of my Glock 20's... A six inch slide model... Im kinda thinkin about a red dot type sight addition, but bein a cheap skate, i aint gonna spring for a $500 + Trijicon or Aimpoint; so the Vortex is the top of my line... Please let me know about your Vortex experiences... I need ta decide whether to mill the slide or just add my favorite irons... Thanks in advance... leroy... AKA " Uncle Scrooge McDuck"...
  21. Brother Dave has spoken a great truth... Be glad this monster is dead... This should serve as a warning to others who would raise their arms against us, or kill Americans... Good Riddance.
  22. Our Brother has spoke a great truth... Used ta carry one myself in the " old days "... If ya carry one, consider the alloy frame models... Weight does make a difference... leroy...
  23. Thanks Brother..! I greatly appreciate it..,
  24. Thanks Mark... I greatly appreciate it... RE: Coyotes... They are here, but lotsa folks are thinnin em out when they are in the right place at the wrong time... Most everybody keeps their cats n small dogs inside if they are anywhere close to open fields around here. Thanks again. leroy.
  25. What are ya carryin your big glock in Choat..? Im always lookin...I've been usin a chest holster. Thanks, leroy...
