Check with your phone carrier... They may give ya one for ya usin your data plan... The truth is they are all good... As others have said, the 8 inch ones are the handiest ... leroy

I think what is happening here is that the manufacturers and their assemblers look at a 1911 like an AR. They simply assemble em and assume they will work... It takes time to adjust the old internal extractors... They simply roll the dice n wait on the complaints. Sigh... leroy

I like it..! Ive got a " put together " A1 with a colt slide n Springfield frame what wuz rebuilt for Viet Nam... Its great ta see that some of these old pistolas survived with matching parts... Im thinkin yours is xtra special for two reasons... The first is that most all " rebuilds " were parkerized "... Look close at the finish... No parkerize... No rebuild. Secondly, i think they all may have got an arched spring housing (... the back of the grip frame..)... Thats what made an " A1 " an " A1 "... The old WW1 colts has a straight spring housing like yours. The " 1911 students " are welcome to chime in and " correct " as necessary; but im thinkin this old pistola made its way back from " The Great War " or " Between the Wars " service without a rebuild after WW1, that makes him even greater. My godfather served in the horse calvary between the wars and toted a pistola just like this one... Im thinkin this great old piece of history wuz liberated between the wars...Retired and repurposed, so to speak, for " home defense "... HEHEHE...

Reefer... There wuz a " truncated cone " (... Read that wide flat nose ...) craze in the eighties for both 9mm and 45acp slugs... The military and the feds looked at em a bit as i remember. There wuz talk of better " knockdown " potential with em, but i think it wuz just the old " next new thing " thing myself... If ya want things " knocked down " ya need a shotgun, not a pistola, and most everybody that is a gunhand knows that except the craven and amoral purchasing, researching, military-industrial complex, lying, n marketing types that are lookin for the next " kickback " or " big bucks sale" on a giant military/ police ammo deal... Hornaday did a bunch of marketing on these " truncated cone " bullets... Ive got a bunch of both 45acp and 38 super layin around the house, both loaded and components for reloading. They did feed well in the 1911 pistolas of the era.. I've shot bunches of em for plinking purposes... The cast n plated bullets ya see for sale today to the action pistol reloaders are the " children " of that experiment and sales pitch. rememberin leroy...

RE... " Cut down 10 mm... Yep... I ain't sure the 38-40 ain't how they got the 10mm... Ole Jeff Cooper knew about all that stuff, as there were still some saas and big colt double action still around then..... That's how they got the casing as I remember. Ballistically it's a 38-40 CIRCA late 1800s.. The old 38-40 wuz loaded with a 180 grain bullet (... Heel type, so it wuz .40 dia, not .357 like a 38...) at a velocity of 950 fps or so. Forty grains of black powder gives a lot of whizz... leroy. -

I'm a great 40SW affectionato myself... The truth of the matter is that There ain't a hill of beans difference between the great 185 grain 45ACP of yesteryear and today's 180 grain 40SW... They are both deadly in a gunman's hands... I own more 40' s in Tupperware than anything else... Big to little. An interesting factoid RE... 40SW... They are really a " re-purposed and upgraded 38-40... The old 38-40 was the third most popular colt in the sales line behind the mighty 45 Colt and the 44-40 as I remember. " Short n Weak " they ain't... I like em a lot. "40 leroy "... -
Virginia Governor Signs 5 Anti-Gun Bills into Law

This whole situation is very interestin, and a real lesson in the truth that " elections mean things "... The people of VA have been sold out to the carpetbaggers in Northern VA and the VA Beach area... We have some of that same potential in the Memphis n Nashville area, as well as pockets in the east.. Beware... Watchin leroy. -

Ive been watchin this a bit... I'm an old gun collector myself... When it comes to gently used, lovingly cared for guns; it all depends on the " willing buyer - willing seller " relationship. Gunbroker, nor any other source of info can't tell ya anything other than ballpark numbers on used firearms. It all hinges on the buyer-seller thing. Some folks like Smiths, and will give a premium for em. Some folks like Colts and will give a premium for em. It all depends on the buyer n seller. Ya can find out about glocks, sigs, CZs and the other soulless junk on gunbroker... Ya need to go other places for " real " collectable pricing... My favorite place is Cherry's Fine Guns. They are a great place to start the hunt. Thus endeth the lesson. leroy

Can the government really shut down my business and make me stay at home?

Eric... Thanks Brother... " I agree with the damned either way " observation. That bein said, politics n leadership aint about listening to howlers n experts... Things are all over the place with this, the doomday sayers will always say they are right, because there is no way to measure success here. Lee would have been far better off politically here to leave the handling of this to the individual counties and to resist these " experts " no matter the flavor. I live in east tennessee, and i see only individuals n family members walking their kids in groups as big as the family, and that aint ever more than 4 or 5. Folks are stayin away from eachother, and businesses i go into are followin the guidelines judiciously. I think it is ridiculous and, frankly breathtakingly stupid to equate traffic increases to " distancing noncompliance ". Tennessee is a " pass thru state ", there is aways traffic. Families that have parents at home or are off from work are gettin in their vehicles and are riding around to keep themselves and their kiddos sane. I travel around quite a bit in my area, and traffic after about 7:30 pm is light. There is simply nowhere to go. Most folks that are travelin during the day are " esential " , while others are parents and individuals who are worried and wonderin what this is really about, and that's a bad thing. Nothing like this has been ordered since Civil War reconstruction, and everybody i know is mad as hell over it, includin me. East Tennessee is a republican bastion, and always has been. Middle and west tennessee vascillate back n forth. The indiginous natives here wont forgive this, no matter how well intended. Its lookin more n more like ole Randy wuz the man for the job. Folks are edgy about their jobs, homes, future, etc, and now they have time on their hands to note the delta between the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and these " Executive Orders " and they aint likin it... I think this will come together with a vengence on election day and finish Lee im thinkin -- i wouldnt be a bit suprized to see him primaried. This needs to end and soon. leroy -

My take on all this is that " The Gadsden Flag " has come out and that everybody with any sense knows it... Everybody in gubt best leave the citizenry alone... Lee has done his best to placate both sides in this and I'm betting LEO won't touch any individual citizenry enforcement... Take a look at the Knox County Sheriff's letter today, which i'll paraphrase "... We have been given leeway in enforcing this order.. ....I am confident that there won't be any need to enforce... We're all in this together..."...Sheriff Spangler, the County Executive, and everybody else (... Even Lee, whom I'm greatly disappointed in and will not vote for again...) seems to understand this is dangerous on both ends... Let's let this little thunderstorm pass and get everybody back to work, or there will be real trouble. This state is a powder keg, and I think Lee just murdered himself politically... leroy -
Take a look at any old western... OWB holster with stampede string... Rifle n shotgun... Saddle scabbard or thimble...Again, look at old " period " photos... By the way... Horses n mules dont like for ya to shoot across their ears... Be prepared to be bucked off if ya do... They have to be trained to the shot noise and it aint easy... Some of my old buddes were horseback bird hunters. They always dismounted to shoot, and we are talkin about the reason why now. leroy.

Interestin Brother..! Im thinkin a bit soft for the 6.0 grain Herco recipe for the short gun... Soundin like the bases may be deformin a bit with the 6 grain load. leroy...
