  1. The son dug an old series 70 Colt gubmt model out of the safe the other evenin and I handled it for a while. It re- reminded me how great they are. I went ahead and rounded me up a Fusion Freedom ( gubt with good sights, beaver tail, n skeletonized hammer ) to shoot a bit. I finally took it out the other day n shot it. I like it alot, the problem is my 78 year old hands are wearing out. I'm letting the pistola twist in my grip a bit, and it ain't lockin the slide back on the last round. I like the Fusion alot, I just need a bit more wrist n hand strength. I'ma guessin that that trip was the first time in 40 years I've shot one. They are a great pistola, plenty of power and an extra good trigger. There ain't nothing like a gubt model... leroy...
  2. As Smith has said; the extended magazines in the CR920 essentially makes him a 43X. That's how I carry mine, as I have pretty large hands. More than that; the extra mags are a whoppin $ 25 as I remember from the Shadow Systems website. They are most excellent... leroy..
  3. I fully agree. I have slicked several percussion pistolas up, but I wuz hopin to find a Cowboy Action smith who might save me the effort. I'm getting lazy in my old age...SIGH... Here5hopin a CAS Smith appears who does this stuff here in the next little while. Otherwise, I'll have ta do it myself... SIGH... lazy leroy...
  4. I think that parents have to come to grips with the great truth that the education profession at the managerial and political level is, by and large, an idealistic, even jhadistic group of folks who; on the whole, disagree with the Second Amendment and intend to usurp its implementation in school self defense in every way possible. They tend operate under the Ole " we are experts and we know best " axiom of all those who know what's best for us " Delightful Rustics " and their progeny. After all, they are experts and the smartest people in the room. That is exactly why teachers should be teachers and SROs should be charged with the protection of life and limb in schools. The " Armededucator " is a very distinct minority in the teaching profession. I am thankful that he is willing to speak the truth and stand up for the protection of students in his care. I think there are other educators who would selflessly sacrifice their personal safety to stop a shooter, but could not bring themselves to shoot back to stop a threat when seconds count. We have seen this over and over thru several of these tragedies. leroy...
  5. RE: " Selectivity "... We spent quite a few hours n a few bucks with Hamilton. Toward the end of the " Real " Colt era ( think 80s thru early 2000s ), he said it was almost impossible to get Colt SAA parts. As I remember, the colt clone parts thing was a problem as well, along with the hit or miss quality of replacement parts. I think that many times, the gunsmiths will specialize in things they can readily find parts for and things they are passionate about. That allows them to deliver repairs and mods to us gun folk in a reasonably timely manner. No one wants to wait 6 months to possibly years for their special repair or project to be completed. Hamilton likes slicking up and modifying all flavors of Rugers and Smiths. More Rugers than anything else, just as papa has said. He did some absolutely beautiful work on two third generation Colts for us, along with a couple of Ruger single actions. He is, in fact, an artist as well as a great gunsmith; and a lovely, professional, kind, and gentlemanly man as well. He is, indeed, a credit to the artisan gunsmith craft as well as being a thoroughly lovely man. I know of no better craftsman, artist, or gentleman in the guncraft business. I have the highest regard for him in every sense of the word. leroy...
  6. I fully agree, if I can talk him into doing it... Hamilton won't hardly work on a " clone " or a real colt anymore... It is worth a try, however... Many thanks Brother... leroy..
  7. Brothers and Sisters... I've just purchased a Pietta ( Cimarron ) colt clone with a horrible trigger. He wuz a lay away from Buds, n I never got to handle him before delivery. After working with it a bit, I'm convinced that there is a bit of a rough spot on the full cock hammer notch. I'ma thinkin one of two swipes with a hard Arkansas stone will fix it. It's a beautiful little pistola, except for the trigger. The carry up is perfect and the finish is great; and I simply don't want to send it to Cimarron. That said; do y'all have any recommendations on cowboy Action Gunsmiths within about an hours drive of Knoxville that ya would recommend..? Thanks in advance. leroy .
  8. It's simply getting worse and worse...SIGH ... leroy...
  9. In a one in a million shot, I find myself agreeing with Link...I'm as shocked as I'm sure he is. What is being described here is a variation of the Israeli School protection model. They use private contractors who are fully combat trained and are REQUIRED to engage any trouble. There is one way into the school... Period... The contractor(s) are at that door. These contractors ( guards, if you will ) are vigilant and engage anyone ( student or otherwise ) who don't look right or seem to fit... Random questions, random search... The ratio is one guard per 100 students. These guards are, in fact, guards, not older, ready to retire LEO folks. There are barriers around the school that cannot be breached with vehicles. There is one door in. The other doors are " exit only " and are locked to outside entrance. The guards continually move and surveil the school property after the students are accounted for and in class. The school principal knows the security plans, but does not administrate it. The security contractor does security, and the teachers and principal do teaching. I like these techniques alot. As others have said; we are living in a completely different world and society that most of us grew up in... It's way passed time for the individual states to get serious about this school security thing . leroy...
  10. Ya never know the real circumstances and back stories around these things, SIGH... I'm beginning to think that either the parents don't know, refuse to believe, or believe a lie about the mental state of their kids; or they are simply just too busy trying to make a livin to deal with these " reports of concern "... The old " He wuz on our radar " thing is irrelevant if no one moves to help these children. No matter the musings, this is a genuine tragedy and there simply ain't enough years to cry for this.. That said; I' m beginning to be more receptive to the " they do it during to a runup to some national event " theory that David opined on. leroy... 11. The Covenant Shooting story made it to a serious blog I follow today, September 4, 2024... https://legalinsurrection.com/2024/09/tennessee-shooters-manifesto-reveal-hatred-towards-whites-christianity/ Very interesting... "Money quote " here: "... The obvious motive didn’t fit the narrative so it’s no wonder this story has been swept under the rug ...". leroy...
  12. If I put any pants on, a well worn Sig P 238 goes in the front pocket. If I go to the " Frontier " or to " Bougainville "; I gets my little bag of horrors out n hoists it over my shoulder ala " Hippy Bike Bag " ( .. ya can get em cheaply on EBay... the best seem to be the non threatening Timbuk2. Cheap n very well made. ). It could contain anything from a CR920 to a 43X, to a 1911, to a giant XD-M full size depending on how stout I feel that day... Remember, the quickest reload is a second pistola... leroy ...
  13. Many thanks Brother..! I greatly appreciate the kindness... leroy...
  14. Got a brother to this one... 308 varmiter. These are " the best of the best " of the original Ruger 77s. Great wood and stupendous blue n workmanship. I wish I had bought a 7x57 one of these myself back in the day. SIGH GLWS . leroy...
  15. When ya get old ya can't remember anything... Just re- remembered... Check this out. https://www.wingtactical.com/firearm-parts/ar-15-parts/lower-receiver-parts/lower-receiver-parts/strike-industries-multi-function-end-plate-and-anti-rotation-castle-nut/ Problem solved (for a fee). Used one of these on the son's light weight uppers... Gonna keep a wrench n dead blow hammer in my AR toolkit. CRS leroy...
  16. I'ma thinkin the Benelli is the " child " of the old Franchi aluminum frame semi I mentioned above... I've got a buddy ( now gone on.. SIGH.. ) who put thousands ( not hundreds), but thousands of Double A trap reloads thru one without a hiccup... I did the same with my beloved Winchester Model 50. The Benelli may be your solution. As I remember, the Benelli pumps are right up there with the Browning BPS too, but they are all 12 ga... leroy...
  17. My concern too... I may look at the lighter contour barrels... The " Predator" is a bit lighter than the " Varmit ", but I'ma guessin the whole rig would be 8 lb or so... Thanks a bunch... leroy...
  18. Been thinking about an 18 inch " precision " AR. Thinking about the 18 inch, 1 in 8 twist " Preditor " barrel... Does anyone have any experience with White Oak..? They come pretty highly recommended... Any thoughts on alternate barrels that do the same thing...? Thanks in advance. leroy...
  19. For what it's worth... If I wuz really interested in a 20 ga semiauto, I would look at the recoil operated guns from the " golden age " of the semiauto shotgun... I would look for a good Browning Auto Five or a older recoil operated Franchi ( if they made em ... I ain't sure ). I would replace the springs n friction rings ( or have an old gunsmith do it ), and make sure the ammo I chose would cycle. That said; the " golden era " Browning's are expensive, which would be an issue for me. Remember; the big selling point of a gas operated shotgun is they are somewhat " soft shooting "; the old recoil operated guns are not. I own several recoil operated semis, because I grew up with em. One of em is a Browning A500, a " lesser child " to many shotgunners because of their Portuguese build. Mine works like a charm, but it's a 12 ga. The other is a Beretta1201, again, a 12 gage. I'd like to have a good, reliable 20 ga semi myself, but they tend to be scarce and pricy ( if " golden era "). I also love the forgotten Browning BPS pumps. They are the best pump ever ( including the Mossberg, I think ). They are pricey, and almost impossible to find in the shorter barrel lengths. The 20 ga ones have simply evaporated; a testament to their greatness. Good luck on your quest for a sensibly priced 20 ga semi, it's gonna be a tall order to find the " Goldilocks " model I'ma thinkin. Hope this gives ya a bit of food for thought. leroy.
  20. Dear Brother and Sister long range shooters... Another mania has struck me. The long range mania with 77 grain loads. Which bullets..? Which barrels would ya recommend..? What contour and length..? Does the bolt n bolt carrier matter..? If so, which one would ya recommend..? Does the bolt need to be blueprinted to the barrel..? If so, who can do that...? Does the pin slop between the upper and lower matter..? If so, how do ya fix it..? Anything I've missed..? Thanks in advance... leroy...
  21. Collect em all..! leroy...
  22. I'm simply amazed at this..! I had no idea that there were such custom parts for an M1A...!!! GLWS... admirin leroy.
  23. Ain't it the truth Brother..! The only way I know about em is that the son takes me there from time to time... epicurian leroy...
  24. A middle eastern hush puppy made ( I think ) with chick peas... bon appetit..!!! leroy..
