Amen brother! Whatta truth!!! The founders did not want us to trust our government. They knew you couldnt trust it. Government needs to be watched and controlled. That's why you never allow government to take up your arms, no matter what the precieved justification or pretense. Unarmed citizens are serfs; armed citizens are, in fact citizens who can enforce their rights if necessary; including self defense (...even against agents of their own government...). Remember the Ambrose Bierce quote: "...There are four boxes protecting America, the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box." He was a very insightful man. Keep up the good work! Kind regards, Leroy

I fully agree. This has been going on for a pretty good while. There is a very powerful faction in the Demorat party (...and a few in the Republican party; sadly...) that has been working mightily to make everyone ignorant and poor (...just like serfs...) in this country; and to create a "privledged class" of insiders who run the "Socialist Workers Utopian Dream" state. Nobama is just the latest incarnation of them. I doubt they will succeed. We are still armed and have the vote. Keep up the good work. Leroy

Jeff:_____________ Got one comming on a custom 450 Bushmaster. I like the YHM stuff because it is steel. They make an excellent product at a good price. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy

Folks:_______________ Dont worry about this: These folks (...for the most part...) are the sons and daughters of Tories who wouldnt fight their British brothers in the Revolutionary War and were too timid to help their Colonial brothers either. I aint too worried about them now. Both our societies (...American and Canadian...) are too feminized now to do much killing and pillaging. If the "New World Order" tough guys want real help, they better do the "Red Dawn" thing and get them some good ole comunist latino guys like Daniel Ortega's boys. I say:"...come on down boys; lets see what ya got! ...". Come up on the ridge and hunt us country boys down! "Hillside" Leroy

Greg has some great advice here. The only problem is that the old Ithaca 37's have become somewhat of a collector's item in some locations, and may bring a bit too much money for what they are. That being said, the Browning BPS is a great shotgun (...the greatest pump manufactured now, i think...). They are ultra smooth (...what the revered Winchester model 12 should have been...), eject to the bottom (...a great feature, especially for lefties...), are extremely well built, and dont cost an arm and a leg. There are lots of 'em out there. Take a look at the "lightly used" models. I like (... and used to shoot...) both. For a pump shotgun, they (...the Ithaca 37 and the BPS...) are the kings of the recent pump shotguns (...my all time favorite is the great Winchester 1897 hammer pump; the original "trench sweeper" and king of the duck blind!!...). Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy

Red:______________ My two cents worth: I really like the remington 870, the mossberg 500, and the browning bps. They are all great shotguns, no matter the model. Look around at all of them. Pick the best deal. Dont be afraid to buy a "lightly used" one either. By the way, load it with #4 buck or larger. I load 2 rounds of #4 buck and the rest with 00 buck. Hope this helps. Kind regards, Leroy (...with a Winchester model 12 riot pump (...lightly used, lovingly cared for...) in the corner and a 12 gage browning bps (22 inch barrel...) next to the bed...)

Graycrait gives some great advice here: We are revolver guys. Done lots of shooting with smiths similar to these. Learn to shoot DA; that's what these guys were made for. They are fast, accurate, tough, and dead reliable. Every pistolero should own one. Keep up the good work. Kind regards, Leroy

Obama throws support behind controversial Islamic center
leroy replied to pegasusrider's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Folks:_______________ A few things to think about. First I agree with the idea that we have freedom of religion in this country; and that this freedom is guranteed by the Constitution. That means freedom to practice any religion, so long as the tenants and practices of that religion do not violate existing law (...e.g. -- child sacrifice, temple prostitution --- you get the picture...). That means that Islam, which I believe is both a religious and political world view can be practiced anywhere there are followers who gather together for worship. This brings us to the issue of the "Ground Zero" Mosque. Those who oppose the choice of this specific location of this project should buy the ground zero property. That is the best way to stop any project (...religious or otherwise...) which requires a real estate location. This has the effect of diverting that particular location to the uses of the owners. The government (...both federal, local, and state...) should stay out of the mosque location issue. All that being said; there is no doubt in my mind that the secret sponsors of radical Islam (...read that the Saudis and other oil sheik nations that we do business with...) are working mightily behind the scenes to give the nutty among their fiefdoms a tangible token of the "Victory of Islam" over the USA (...whether it is, in fact, a victory or not...). I believe that "token" or shrine is the proposed Ground Zero Mosque. If those parties that are interested in this issue wish to stop this project; land purchase is the solution. No courts, no political arguments (…and demagoguery…), no constitutional issues, no nothing except dollars to buy the property. My guess is that since that since the oil fiefdoms have plenty of money and that the folks who own the ground zero property worship the god of money, this aint going to happen. That means that the nutty will get their shrine, and New Yorkers will get a new mosque. Either way, I would much prefer no meddling in the constitutional issues in regard to freedom of religion and property rights. Remember, folks generally get what they ask for. Oh, by the way, I think it is great that Nobama and other foolish polititians are talking about this; even endorsing it. They are busy making more and more people mad about this. I say, never interupt your enemies while they are digging their own graves and making making more enemies out of former friends. I say; "Keep talking!!!". Food for thought. Leroy -
Dear fellow opiners:_____________ I have read with great interest, amusement, and a bit of sadness the opining and musings of our brother and sister TGo’rs in regard to the recent results of the Tennessee Republican Gubernatorial Primary. I, like many of you, did not like the outcome of this race. Bill Haslam is my least favorite candidate. I have read with interest the pronouncements of those who say the process was rigged and those who have vowed to do write in candidates in the general election, not vote in protest of the poor candidate(s), or even vote Demorat to “teach the Republicans a lessonâ€. This issue of “protesting the vote†brings me to the subject of this little essay. First of all, I (…like many of you…) would have preferred that my pet candidate have won this primary; but, sadly, he didn’t. That is the reality of things. I really like Ron Ramsey, because I prefer to think that he is a good man who has thought thru what he believes and who is willing to both articulate those principles and stand up for them if necessary. I also think that about my ole pet “State-Line†Wamp. Sadly, I do not think that about Bill Haslam. I think that Haslam has not thought deeply about what he believes on a personal level about freedom, the role of government, ect.; because he has not talked much about those things in other than general platidunious terms. There are two possible reasons for this silence; the first is that he has not taken the time; the second is that he does not want us to know them. My fear is that he may rely on others to do this thinking for him (…many politicians do…) and to form his opinions on the issues that are near and dear to all of us here. Whatever he has chosen to do, he has kept it a well-guarded secret. I fear that he has borrowed a page from the old Howard Baker playbook and has carefully avoided saying anything other than he will do the right thing. The fact is that we simply don’t know what he believes. Having said all these things; all this opining and analysis is over; Haslam is, in fact, the Republican Gubernatorial candidate who will stand in the general election. He will run against a Demorat Gubernatorial candidate; most likely McWerter. The big question for each of us then becomes: Who will you vote for? The choice for me is easy – I WILL vote for Haslam. I simply will not vote for any Demorat. Why then, would a gun toting Radical Libertarian like myself say such a thing? Why would I not do a “protest vote†or do a “write-in†for someone other than these two lothesome candidates who do not represent my perfect ideal of what the “right candidate†should be? Why would I not keep my dignity and my core beliefs in tact by voting for such a Philistine as Haslam? The answer is simple, here it is. I fully understand what Mike McWerter is and I do not like anything that he believes nor do I prefer any of the policies he would implement. McWerter is a Demorat –pure and simple. He would be Phil Bredesen’s third term (…or worse…) if elected. If you didn’t like Bredesen; my opinion is that you sure won’t like McWerter. McWerter may be far more like Cohen than “Uncle Philâ€. That realization should sober everyone up. He has already said that he supports many of these things that we as a group are against. That being said, why would anyone vote for another Bredesen (…or worse; you know, it can be worse! …)? As has been stated above, we simply don’t know about Haslam. Let us hope that he gets the message, grows a backbone, and grows into the job. He is at least a capitalist. Everyone needs to consider that American politics is, from bottom to top, a “winner takes all propositionâ€. Governance at all levels is determined by which group (….read that political party….) is in the majority. This “majority†then dictates what issues will be debated and ultimately voted into law. It also determines what odious policies (…like prohibiting going armed…) will be reversed. It determines what fiscal policies will be followed (…read that taxation—income tax…, etc. …), what policies will be implemented, and ultimately how the citizens will be governed. There are those that have said; “Why not a third party?†I (…like many of you…) like the third party idea, but I do not think it is time for it yet. I say let’s give the Republicans another shot. What, you say, is the reason for this thinking? Simple; third parties are not very successful (…although I will concede that if the Republicans don’t straighten up, it will become viable….). The fact is that the Republicans had better take heed to what most folks are saying and mend their ways. If they do not, they will simply morph into the Demorat party (….Demorat “liteâ€â€¦), fade away, and be replaced by a third party. The fact is that politics and the political process in general are fraught with problems and shortcomings, and the Tennessee Republican party is not immune to them. However, it is my firm belief that these “problems and shortcomings†are much preferable to having men such as McWerter and his Demorat buddies calling the shots here in our home state. The Demorat party as it is currently constituted is the worst of the worst that can come from politics, and folks would do well to remember that. It is about three months until the general election. During this three months a ton of lies and a little bit of truth will flood the airways, telephone lines, and the print media concerning who these two men are and what they stand for. I would much prefer having Haslam and a conservative state legislature than I would McWerter. Those are the two choices. There aint a third option. If you don’t vote, write-in vote, or protest vote; you are voting for McWerter and the Demorats. I don’t think that is what you want to do. Food for thought. Leroy the Libertarian (...voting Republican...)

Browning Citori (...about any style or model---old or new...) best value for dollars spent in a double shotgun. Kind regards, Leroy
-
Great advice. I heartily agree. Both the Parker and the ciroti (...we have a couple...12 and 28...) will most likely outlast us all. I've seen the old Browning O/U models (...the "fathers" of the cioris...) that had all the bluing wore off from handling and shooting still going like they were new after tens of thousands of rounds. The O/U or sideby is a great thing. I like both the pumps and semiautos; but the sidebys and O/U's are the kings of shotguns. Collect 'em all!! Kind regards, Leroy

Fellow political pundits; sugarbear nailed this one in one sentence. You could substitute any name (..."State Line" Wamp, or Ramsey--depending on your prejudices in this sentence....). I think he is exactly right. I'll grant that Haslam aint much of a republican; but he won because the field was too crowded and he had plenty of dollars. As little as i like Haslam; he will be a credit to any Demorat; especially "Uncle Phil". I didnt vote for Haslam either; but i WILL vote for him in the general election; because i am voting AGAINST THE DEMORATS. Make no mistake; politics is a "winner take all" proposition. If you like what is going on now, vote for a demorat or dont vote at all. Protest votes are votes for the opposing party --- they never work. Food for thought. Leroy

I like the Kingsport show at the Meadowview. Great place to go, lots of guns. Highly recommend taking the time to go (...even from the Knoxville area...). Leroy

Patton:______ What you described above is exactly how the rounds should be in the barrel chamber. That eliminates the headspace problem. Barrel clean; another good thing. The only thing that i can come up with is that the bullets are small in the bore (...less than the bore size ---probably unlikely---but i would try to measure the bullet diameter to make sure...), or the glock just doesnt like the +P+ ammo. I have very rarely seen that happen. I have seen loads be so hot that the bullet deformed (...they were generally hard cast lead, not jacketed; and shot thru ruger SA's---never saw it in an auto...) that they would give bad accuracy at longer distances; but i have never seen a jacketed bullet give that kind of trouble. We need some other guys to think about this one and tell us what they think. Keep thinking about this. Kind regards, Leroy

Patton:__________ This one puzzles me. I would have bet that there was a headspace problem with the +P+ rounds. What you described is exactly what we used to see on the old supers. The round woud drop into the barrel a bit mess up the headspace. It sounds like your +p+ rounds are sitting right as to headspace, because both rounds are sitting in the same place in the barrel. By the way, are the rounds flush with the back of the barrel where the barrel meets the slide? You might want to take a .000 (...one thousands...) reading caliper or micrometer and see if you can get a good reading on the +p+ bullet diameter. It would also be great if you could dissassemble on of the +p+ rounds and measure the bullet if you cant get a good reading on the bullet with the load assembled (...sometimes you cant, due to seating depth of the bullet in the case and the curve of the bullet nose...). I would expect the bullet to measure .355 minimum. This is a long shot; but do you see any lead or fouling buildup in the barrel? RE: Guide rod spring. I dont think it is causing any trouble. My guess is that it is in the barrel or the bullet somewhere. We need some more folks to think about this one. Kind regards, Leroy

I think all this is very interesting. My guess is that it is not motivated by anything other than political paybacks for not towing the ruling demorat line (...my guess is that it is for either backing a "clintonista" or balking on a Pelosi (...or nobama...) order to the demorats...). The great thing is that it couldn't happen to two nicer folks. Maxine Waters and Charlie Wrangle epitimize everything that is wrong with politics today in any party. You can bet that there is something up that we dont know yet. Anyway, it is a great day for America when its enemies within start eating eachother. Lets hope for more. PS-- THANKS FOR POSTING THIS INTERESTING NEWS!! Food for thought. Leroy

Federal Judge Nukes Arizona Illegal Immigration Law
leroy replied to Oh Shoot's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I think MvyMtl and others are dead on target here from a political perspective. All this ruling and stay will do is to make this issue more and more visible to everyone; even the casual observers. The border thing is getting worse and worse with the druglords running wild all up and down the border. It's only a matter of time until something really bad happens there that involves a US citizen (...if it hasnt already happened...). Take the time to log on to the El Paso Times newspaper website sometime and take a look ( ...i take a look most every day; there is some pretty interesting stuff there that you wont see in the big news media reports...). Combine that with the latino activists that are continuing to stir this up; and you have a Demorat recipe for disaster simply because they are the party in power now. Most folks want the border secure, and they will be able to figure out pretty quickly that the legal wrangling is nothing but Demorat pandering. I will grant that it could be Republican pandering too, because both parties are guilty; but the Demorats "have the keys now" as the great Nobama quipped just after the election. More than that, the Republicans should make Eric Holder the poster boy for reverse discrimination in this country; because that is who he is, and there appears to be plenty of evidence and willing acusers out there willing to say that. If things get pretty hot for him, the Demorats will toss him under the bus, because that's who polititians are. That will keep fanning the flames and give the Demorats a convenient scapegoat if they need some cover for the elections (...which i believe they will -- the polling data looks bad for the 'rats...). If the Republicans are very smart, (...i know, that may be a silly idea...) they will keep this stirred up and in the news every day. The governor of Arizona (...God bless her--- she may be the only smart Republican [...or real statesman...] out there...) has already started it. This aint going to go away, nor will it be over before the midterm elections. I say, let the howling, retoric, and fireworks begin!! Food for thought. leroy -
Thanks for the note on expansion; I'd say they are plenty good. The phonebook is plenty tough. If they were going to shed their jackets, they probably would in the phonebook paper. Looks like the guys have figured how to keep these speedy jhp bullets together. They used to be bad to shed their jackets. Re: glockster's post regarding the gold dots out of the glock 33. Our handloads will run from 1275 to 1325 out of our little cannon; so his numbers are right in line with ours. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to post the replys. RE: The +p+ ammo inaccuracy problems. I would take a look at whether the +p+9mm ammo will headspace in the barrel properly. Just take the barrel out of the pistol and drop a couple or rounds in the chamber. If they try to drop below the breech, its a headspace problem with the rounds. They may be crimped too heavily from the factory; allowing the end of the round to slide by the end of the chamber. We used to have these problems in the "old days" with the Colt series 70 38 supers (...they used to headspace on a small rim at the hood---- the new ones dont have this problem...). Lots of times it wouldnt space and drop by the hood. It would cause wild inaccuracy (....similar to what you have experienced...). We used to seat the bullets out to just touch the lands of the barrel (...i dont recommend this anymore!...) to fix the headspace problem. Accuracy would go right back up where it should be (...just like your 9mm fmj rounds...). Same pistol, completely different results. The headspace thing makes a great difference in accuracy in pistols. Thanks again. Kind regards, Leroy
