mosinon:___________ I got one on these; they are in the hundred dollar range (...$125...). Great knife: H&K Axis Lock Folding Knife w/ G-10 Handles (Satin PLN) 14205 - Blade HQ I like the "axis" lock and the heavy blade. They sharpen well, Hope this helps. Leroy PS -- Major Kong has a helluva idea with the Zero Tolerance 0350. They are a great knife (...i want one of the big ones...).

Mike:____________ Do you think that new providers might go undeground and plow or trench in fiber lines. I know we ran lots of fiber for powerplant controls thru conduit in cable vaults. I THINK (...i dont know...) that the railroads have plowed in some fiber lines along their RR ROW. Leroy

I fully agree. Bloomberg has to win the prize for the most overbearing, superior, self-agrandizing know-it-all jackass yankee since Reconstruction. I hope he does run; he'll get a real spankin. I would love to see Bloomberg, Nobama, and Hillary duke it out; what fun!! The run-up to the 2012 election will be real entertaining. Leroy

Thanks for all the input guys. I really like the BCM middy 16 inch light weight barrel (...signed up on the "send me a note" when back in stock list...). Does anyone have any experience with the White Oak Armlament lightweight ss barrel (..link here: White Oak Armament ..look about half way down....)? The weight is listed at 34 ounces. How about the JP / VTAC handguards (...link here: JP Rifles ..this one screws on .....)? Finally, anyone tried the carbon fiber handguards (....like these: AR-15 / M16 carbon fiber hand guard ..i aint sure i like the idea of tightening everything down and epoxying the handguard on; what da ya think ?....)? Rifle vs carbine handguards (...i like the rifle; more protection for barrel, tube, gasblock...)? I like the short barrel with rifle length round handguard thing. Let me know what ya think. Thanks again. Leroy

Seaslug and others who may be laundry challenged:__________ Here is a pearl of information straight from a second generation "washerman" who was trained by his sainted mom who washed and ironed everything and made it look like it just came from the laundry. We were poor when i was a boy; so we needed to keep things looking new; they had to last a long time!! I'm also "full figured ---HEHEHE..." so im vitally interested in keeping shrinkage to a minimum (...especially the girth...). Thow all the damn washing detergent away (...read that Cheer, Tide, All, yda yda--all the stuff you see advertised as detergent...) and start washing with Woolite in warm water with a cold water rinse. If things are really dirty; throw in about 1/2 cup of granulated Oxyclean (...let it dissolve before you put the clothes in...). If the clothes stink (...think dirty tee shirts or sweat dissapating high tech gear...) add about 1/2 cup of white vinegar to the wash (...either rinse or wash, it doesnt matter...). After washing, hang your clothes up to dry on an old time clothesline (..or do like we do and hang them up on the wrought iron railing on the deck or around the stairwell...). Your clothes wont shrink, they wont fade, and they will last a lelluva lot longer. Dont let your wives touch your clothes unless they know how to wash. Keep things out of the drier until they are almost air dried and keep the damn drier on low! The dryer shrinks everything; the drier the clothes before they go in, the less the shrinkage!! I've got carhartt dungarees and overalls that are bleached white from washing; but they still fit. By the way; there is no charge for this valuable "pearl" of secret information. It is offered as a "free service" to all my washing challenged brothers (...and sisters...). Keep up the good work! Laundryman Leroy

mds:_____________ For what it's worth; there are those who think the stainless barrel is the better of the two (....i could never tell the difference myself; and ive used both...). Lots of target shooting folks swear by the stainless barrels and they shoot a lot. I have an old Remington 700 from the sixties that has a stainless varmit barrel in it (...it's a 222; just a bit smaller than a 223...) that will consistently shoot 5 shot one hundred yard groups (...it has a 12 power lyman target scope in old timey weaver rings...) that you can lay a dime over (...with no wind...). They work great. Have fun. Leroy

AR has went straight to the heart of this whole issue; and has hit the nail squarely on the head in three sentences here: Keep up the good work! Libertarian Leroy (...the anti regulatory opiner, activist, and Foghorn Leghorn admirer...)

Thats great! You are doin good!! Thanks for all you do!! Leroy

Jay:____________ As the great Foghorn Leghorn once said; "....Ya may be a little slow son. --- I already answered that!!!...". I told ya all that in post # 42. The "definitions of broadband" dont mean anything; you can still surf the web with all six. The effect is the same. The count is still six choices. I'm sure you know, technology always moves forward. Dont worry, you will have that which you would like to have in a year or so; and the government wont cause a bit of it to happen. They generally hamper technology advances. Leroy

Ways To Make A Home Secure?
leroy replied to RobertNashville's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Robert:______________ I think you are right. I like the ip type cameras too. RE: The "home invasion" breakin is my worry; that's why im stumped on the "alarm" thing. The best approach might be a motion sensing type setup along with the cameras. I just havent figured out how to do the "motion sensing" thing with an alarm; say to a smartphone. Maybe others will chime in with ideas. Leroy -
There aint any real difference in stainless or carbon steel (...blued...) barrels as to wear or accuracy. Got both types in varmit and target type rifles. Can't tell any difference. Pick the one ya like! Regards Leroy

Glockster:_______ I knew ya had the "madness" when ya got the 375!! I cant wait to get the reports on your work on the lead bullet loads. I know the #1 Tropical looks great. The PAST pad will work pretty well for the 458 too, if the loads are a bit warm. Congratulations! Leroy

Amen brother!!! Every "finished" pistol man (...or woman...) owes it to themselves to own and regularly shoot at least one Single Action revolver. Either a Ruger or Colt. They are a great thing!!! Keep up the good work. Leroy

As to your question; there are at least 6 broadband providers available to me right now; and i didnt do anything but count them. I happen to use two of them. Deregulation benefits everybody. A Verizon, AT&T, Sprint, or T-Mobile smartphone costs about $100.00 with a 2 year service contract today. My DSL costs about $35.00/month. Right now, there are at least 6 service providers that i can use to type this little message. Seems to me that that is a "reasonable" choice of providers is already here. And the great thing is that "we" didn't need to do anything to "promote additional Broadband providers". Interesting aint it? No bunch of "Regulators" caused that phenemenon. The capitalist system caused it. Leroy

Ways To Make A Home Secure?
leroy replied to RobertNashville's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Robert:___________ Been thinkin about the same thing. I have been looking at good hard wired nite vison capable surveillence cameras for the two entrance doors; but i havent figured out how to make them alarm and notify me when someone is at the door. A possible solution might be motion detectors with the cameras. Leroy -
Thanks for the note on the BCM middy barrel Chuck. I hadnt looked at them; but i like em. Thanks again, Leroy

Jay:_____________ I aint missing anything: Your arguement is that government needs to "regulate" to "break up". My solution is to "de-regulate". That's what Reagan did with the airlines in the 80's; so it can be done. I didn't miss a thing. leroy Late breaking news (...in case you had any doubt about what FCC "regulators" do...): Link here: http://www.investors.com/NewsAndAnalysis/Article.aspx?id=556103&p=2

I like it!! Great grips (...and sixgun....) Leroy

Jay:___________ I simply wont play the "...if you dont read, you dont know..." game with you. That position destroys my basic premise about not needing more regulation. That part of the discussion is over. As i previously stated; i simply dont care how ...."winsome and well intentioned the proposed regulations are...". We dont need 'em to begin with. You and I are having conversations from two polar opposite perspectives. I'll try to sort them out: Your perspective seems to be saying that "...i dont like regulation; but since we already have the regulatory system in place; why not do the "noble and alturistic thing" and promulgate regulations (...which, by the way, are the same as laws...) and "fix loopholes" with the internet that the "bad corporations" are taking advantage of. By the way, i have a problem with the concept of "bad corporations". How do we know when they are bad? Who is cloaked with the authority to pronounce them bad? When do they turn "bad" ?. The "bad" corporation thing seems suspiciously anti-capitalist to me; but im a suspicious man. The fact is that you are either a capitalist or you are not. I'll grant that capitalism has problems; but my solution is to let the market and the consumer sort them out; not the government. When the government sorts them out, that is a "managed economy"; a euphanism for socialism (...which is exactly what we have in many parts of out economic system today, by the way; a hold over from the "New Deal"; another euphanism for FDR's great american socialist experiment...). Remember this, what the government "gives today"; it can "take away tomorrow". The best solution is to not give them the authority to give at all. My perspective is "....we dont need any regulation to begin with....". Allowing the FCC to reach out and claim the regulation of the internet is, in fact, an expansion of government regulatory power and authority, and i dont like that. As my sainted old mom used to tell me as a child: "...what you dont start, you dont have to quit...". The fact is that we dont need more regulations; we need less. That being the case; i refuse to quibble about the "correctness and need" of such regulation. My position is that we dont need them to begin with. While im on the regulation subject; i think a history lesson is in order. Regulatory bodies purport to take "things" (...broadcast radio, tv, the power industry, wateways, railroads; for example...) and seize the authority thru legislation to "regulate" them for the "public good". This is an old time political tool to raise money in fees, implement policies that otherwise cannot be implemented thru the legislative process, and generally interfere in the business of individual businesses in the name of the "public good". We can quibble about the beginnings of these things; but the end is always the same. The bureaucrats make the "regulatory agency" bigger, reach farther from their original intent, and reflect the views of the political class thru the appointment of directors and heads of agencies. The result of this is never good; and i challenge you to point to one modern "regulatory authority" that is improving anything. The whole "regulatory" concept is one that makes the regulated entities either serfs or "protected species"; depending on the regulatory posture, and increases costs for the consumer. Dont be drug off into the woods by the idea that says that "regulatory authorities" do a good work for the citizen; they simply dont. That presumes that mankind (...polititians and bureaucrats...) are fair, well-meaning, alturistic beings that are, in fact, the "best and brightest" and as such, would never make a mistake or do anything wrong. To all that, i say a hearty "....Baloney...". It simply aint so, and casual observation will validate my libertarian cynicism. Never believe the malarkey that polititians and bureaucrats are the most ethical, honest, or the brightest among us; it simply aint so. We dont need more regulations; we need less. We dont need more bureaucrats; we need less. Leroy
-
Jay:___________ I dont need to "...read the regulation for myself...". and, by the way, "...i can understand the terms real well myself..." I dont need your (..or anyone else's...) "summary assessment" of rules for complete comprehension of this malarkey. If you are against regulation; that means you are against regulation. We've got too many regulations now. No proposed regulation,"...no matter how winsome and and alleged to be upright..." suits me. If ya want regulation; vote for it. I aint goin to do that. I'm sure that the regulators will welcome you recommendation to accept the proposed new rules. I wont give mine. Remember, there will be another election in 2012; that means that there may be a shake up in the FCC. Leroy

Thanks David. I like the "Box o Truth" tutorial. Has anyone used synthetic motor oil (...5w - 20...) to lube the gas rings? I'm thinkin about using it (...been using regular synthetic gun oil, like the Educational Zone instructons say...) and using a synthetic grease (...like Slip2000...) for the bolt lugs and bolt carrier sliding surfaces. The thought is to keep the lube where it belongs and keep it on there longer with the grease. The thought with the synthetic motor oil is to simply try it out; there aint a harsher enviornment for oil than the rings and cylinder walls on an internal combustion engine. Whadda ya think? Leroy

Thinking about relaoding... a couple of????
leroy replied to Alpha13's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Alpha:___________ Dwarren's answer(s) are right on target. Been reloading for about 45 years now. I'll add a few things about safety: Some folks worry about storing powder in your home or outbuildings. Smokeless powder is classified as a "flammable solid'. Handle it just like you would a 5 gallon can of gasoline. Check this out for details: Alliant Powder - Storage & Handling Primers are the most "dangerous" thing you will handle. Be careful with them, they will go off, and they can hurt you (...loose an eye or cripple a hand...). The bottom line of the "primer thing" is to be an adult and handle them carefully, dont "force" them into a primer pocket, keep primers fully identified and in their original packaging, and store them where they cant fall off the shelf and detonate. Check this out for details: Primers, the Sparkplug of Centerfire Cartridges The answer on "saving" is simple. You can save about "half" on reloading most cartridges. We load big bore pistol and shoot lots of it. Almost all with "hard cast" lead semi wadcutter bullets. If you shoot 9 mm or 223 (...556 military...), you wont save too much. There are lots of good deals on military type ammo out there. If you want the "best" ammo for long range shooting or target work, reloaded ammo is the "best"; as it can be "tailored" to individual firearms. Again, as Dwarren said, reloading is a great hobby; and his observations on "mentoring" are a great idea. The guys here on TGO are a great resource for help. Dont be bashful about asking questions. Have fun, Leroy -
Ya did good!! It looks great. Regards, Leroy
