  1. RE: Glocks post: All:_________________ I smell a rat here. My guess is that the rat is the current Speaker of the House. Always remember, MS. Harwell, though she is a Republican, is no friend to gunowners. It's sad to say (...and i have no proof to back this up...); but i also have no problem imagining that the current Senate Leader (...who i like on a personal and political basis...) is bought and paid for too. The payoff (...i believe....) is the promise of backing a gubanatorial campaign when "The Snozz" (...my pet name for Bill -- check out a profile shot and you'll see what im sayin...) decides to run for the US senate (...again, my guess...); and take his "rightful place" as a paternalistic politico "who knows what's best for us lesser beings" (...just like the great Howard Baker and Albert Gore, SR, did in the bygone eras...). That will happen when that noted RINO (...who would do exactly what is being done now if he was governor...), Lamar Alexander, retires. Remember this; politics can be a very dirty business, and we're talikn about some "dirty birds" here. Now, after having blasphemed the motives and impuned the character of these "politicos"; i also believe (...as several others do here...) that there is a problem with rights here. If you take a fair look at all rights here, it appears that the "right to carry" trumps the real property owner's right to control his real property. That is a problem that has to be carefully addressed as to liability and property rights. Food for thought. radical libertarrian leroy -- Who would still rather have the "Snozz" than that commie McWerter; but i'm a suspicious man.
  2. Thanks for posting these pictures. The super looks great. I like the contrast and the grips. A 38 super is the "ultimate legacy 9mm". It actually does what the 9mm cheer leaders originally said the 9 mm would do during all the 80's hype about changing from the 45 acp to the 9mm. A good one (...one that has a barrel that headspaces on the case mouth...) is accurate, powerful, and has easy recoil. I'd like to have a full size lightweight myself. Keep up the good work! leroy

    Tsunami in Japan

Thanks for posting this. I saw it the other day; it is well worth taking the time to look at. The guys at Areva are well worth listening to. PS: HERE IS AN UPDATE GRAPHIC I FOUND JUST A MINUTE OR TWO AGO (...12:50...) RE: USA UPGRADES TO GE MARK I BWRS: http://resources.nei.org/documents/japan/major_mod_usbwr_4511.pdf. TAKE A LOOK, Keep up the good work! leroy
  4. My guess is that it is a phonetic spelling of Ruger. It also could be a rural vernacular variant of the original name; we just dont know for sure. (...dont feel bad about it Rod; we all knew exactly what ya ment!!...--- keep up the good work!!!...) leroy
  5. I kinda got the same problem. I think it is gun nut related curiosity. I tend to watch a while, read a bunch of stuff, then buy "the next good stuff". Just bought a bunch of Slip2000 stuff and a quart of 5w-20 synthetic oil. I think it's part of the "gun techie derangement syndrome". We may need to start a support group and meetings. leroy

    Tsunami in Japan

All:________________ Notice what's goin on in "spraying" picture. The guys are using what looks like a garden hose to spray the blue green stuff over the ground (...and eveything else...). This is a pretty commonly used method (...it appears to be some sort of inexpensive, soft setting, flexible, polymer...) to bind up contaminated particles and keep them in one place. They do it pretty regularly inside the plant on everything that gets contaminated with dry particles. You spray it on (...to bind up the particles to keep them from blowing around...), let it dry, peel it off (...it comes off easily...), then put it in the radwaste "trashbasket". My guess is that they will spray a bunch of this (...both inside and outside the plant...), clean it up (...by the square mile, almost...), and start taking things apart. Once they get things decontaminated inside the plant, they can assess the damage and figure out what to do. I wouldn't be a bit suprized if OS isn't right about the ground contamination around the plant toward the island. I bet they figure out how far the particles went and fence it off. It will be interesting to watch this one. My guess is that the TEPCO guys will do a real thorough assessment to see if the RPV is damaged. If it is, that's a bad thing. If it's not, they can most likely fix everything else if they have enough money. Real estate to build stuff (...like powerplants...) on in Japan is extremely rare and valuable. My bet is if the plant can be saved or the real estate reused somehow; thats what TEPCO will do. Japan desperately needs electric power (...just like every other developed country...) both in the near and far term. leroy
  7. We always used a variation on Dave's post here. I've done feed ramps on 1911's with a half round hard arkansas stone; all by hand, just like Dave's post says. We always polished up and down the feed ramp and DID NOT CHANGE THE FEED RAMP GEOMETRY. That means to polish the ramp, not put dips or humps in it. The idea is to make the feed ramp look like a mirror and to just barely round any sharp edges going into the chamber. Hope this helps a bit, leroy
  8. nicemac:_______________ Thanks for posting he note on the racing team. Looks to me alike another validation of "...they (...the good oils...) are all about the same...". Keep up the good work. leroy
  9. Craig:_____________ Interesting read. Thanks for posting it. It validates a quip that a gunsmith buddy of mine uses when he is asked about "the best gun lube". His answer: "....the one currently on sale at Brownells (...or, wherever you buy your gun cleaning stuff...)....". Thanks again, leroy

All:__________________ Take the time to check out this link for some work photos at the nucelar plants: Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Hi-Res Photos 2 There are some great photos of folks working that shows the problems with doing this stuff in protective clothes. There is also a photo of workers spraying "sticky stuff' to bind up the dust to prevent contamination from spreading. What amazed me was the level of destruction all around. leroy
  11. JAB:_____________ RE: The "old blackhawks" and original vaqueros are just alike except for the sights. They are built on the bigger frame (...about 10'% bigger than a colt saa or the original 1955 blackhawks...).The new vaquero montados are basically the same size as a colt saa (....see this link from ruger: Ruger® Vaquero® - Single-Action Revolvers. ...). I wouldn't hotrod the new vaquero montados or the new blackhawks "original 1955 blackhawk" models. The old models are just fine. Hope this helps. leroy
  12. I think it's laughable that a bunch of chumps like those who run Salon would rat out their own brothers and sisters on the left coast, the rustbelt, and the northeast. It must be a simple case of "self loathing" by the "best and brightest" among us--HEHEHE. Segregation and "Jim Crow" has been over for quite a while; but the earstwhile leaders of these "bastions of tolerance" evidently aint got the message yet. I thought that all these city fathers and their pimps were the "best and brightest" and those who were "colorblind". Silly me!! All the while i thought they were working on a "colorless working man's utopia". I must have missed something. "...Sounds to me like "tha man" is keepin the brothers (...and sisters...) down; man...". Looks to me like that Nobama and company ought to start using some of them "New Reconstruction" tactics on these places. Where's Eric Holder when ya need him? Thanks for posting this interesting info. leroy
  13. Sonny:______________ Thanks for the update. I like these little guys too (...got a sig 328; their problem is cost...). We could use another 380. This would be a nice one. Now, if they would only build one in 9mm. Thanks again, leroy
  14. I love this!!! (....Lighten up, Francis....). What a truth. I dont know much about this and am very willing to listen to Fallguy's observations, as well as the observations of others. Like OS and others have said, "....i wouldnt get too overheated if i wuz you. There are lots of things to learn here. ..." leroy
  15. DMark:______________ I understand. Thought that might be the case. I've got the opposite problem. I like a long trigger. I really like the pistola; it looks great and is in a great caliber. Thanks again, leroy
  16. Will:______________ Ya did good!! Got his brother in 45 colt. Exact same revolver. leroy
  17. DMark:_________ Just wonderin (....by the way, the super looks great!!...). Why did ya decide to use a short trigger on this pistol? leroy

  19. I'm like you. I would like to see the "adults" take their state back over. Let's hope they do. leroy
  20. I hate to hear this; both for this policeman's family and the community. Have family in Chattnooga and pretty well know where this happened. Chattanooga (....and most other urban areas...) all have the same problem; codling criminals and putting them in time out. Prayers for the family. leroy
  21. crash:_____________ RE: The displacement of metal with a swedging tool vs a hammered type tool (...like a punch or chisel (screwdriver?)...). In one of my former lives (...when i was working...) i spent quite a bit of time on the machining/fatigue of metal parts stuff. The problem is that when you put a divot that has a sharp edge in these hardened parts, it acts as a stress riser and can lead (...with lots of fatigue...) to cracking. That's why you see parts that are subjected to lots of stress machined, carefully radiused, and polished off in machines like rotors, armatures, bolts, etc. The problem aint the hammering; it's the sharp edge that can be left at the bottom of the divot (...or any sharp or square corner...) when you lock the part down by upsetting the metal. If ya have a round nose tool, hammmering doesnt seem to make any difference. The advantage to swedging is that it is more controlled than a hammer blow. Hope this helps a bit. leroy
  22. Plus 1. I like this bag too. The maxpedition bag is about the same thing; both about the same price. This would be a great choice. I need to pick one up myself. leroy
  23. Craig:______________ You have spoken a great truth here. The Glock design is, indeed, an "elegant" (... and i think greatest...) solution to the semiauto (...and other...) handgun problem that has been invented to date. This may be heresy to some; but I think Gaston Glock should be right up there on mount rushmore with J.M. Browning, Samuel Colt, and Messers. Smith and Wesson. As you have said; Mr Glock revolutionized the semiauto pistol and completely changed the approach to designing and building handguns with simplified operation, modular design, simplified parts manufacture, reasonable pricing, and legendary reliability. I believe that they are the best value in firearms today (...they are some artful copies that are close [...read Walther, Kahr, others...], but a bit more expensive...). All this from an old time colt and smith and wesson snob. I never would have believed that i would ever carry a "recycled plastic coke bottle" pistol in place of a smith or colt. I do now (...glock 33 or this 27...). I believe they are the best carry pistol out there. Now, to talk them into building "baby glock" single stack in 40 or 357 sig!. Thanks again for all the help. leroy (...junior apprentice glock armorer...)
  24. I'm kinda like you, Mike. I'm tryin to figure out what is really going on here. This one is interesting. leroy
  25. All:___________________ This is interesting stuff. Link here: Ill. Assn. of Chiefs of Police Support Legalizing Concealed Carry Proposal# Illinois and New York state were the "birthplace" of repressive handgun permit laws. It is, indeed, interesting that these guys have changed their minds. I never dreamed that Illinois would turn into a "shall issue" handgun permit state!! This is either a heinous April fool joke or some of the best news we've heard from the "rustbelt" in a long time. The Illinois house is 54/54 demorat/republican and 35/24 demorat/republican in the senate. This is interesting stuff!!! leroy
