  1. Bob:____________ I've got a "new to me" Dillon 650 myself. Dont know about the lee dies specifically; but if they are standard diameter (...7/8 dia by standard thread...), they will go right in the toolhead(s) no problem. You may need an exrta crimp die for each caliber, but they dont cost much. I've got a mix of dillon, lyman, RCBS, etc set up on my toolheads. The way a dillon is designed to work, ya change tool heads (...they are about $6 each from dillon...) to change calibers. That way you dont have to keep readjusting your dies to get the press set up. The bad news is that you do need the caliber conversion kits. A dillon uses a "shell plate" that is, in effect, the shellholder for the specific caliber you are reloading. You have to change the "shell plate" out for each different shell size. The good news is that 38 and 357 are the same shell plate size. Fourty four special and 44 mag. are the same shell plate size; plus a few others. The downside of a dillon is the need to change the shell plates, belling case expanding die insert in the powder die, and the parts in the shell case drop tube. It aint hard; but it probably takes me at least, 15 or so minutes to change calibers and get ready to go again. I tend to set the dillon to run large runs (...about 500 or more...) rounds up to save the bother of changin everything out. If you are loadin a couple of hundred pistol or rifle rounds, you can most likely do it quicker on a single stage. If you are loading to shoot bunches of ammo of the same caliber and have the recipes down pat, you cant touch a dillons speed or ease of loading. RE: The powder measure, it works very well. Just make sure it's set up exacly as it should be. By the way, the caliber kit(s) also have the belling die for the powder measure. On a dillon, the powder measure station both bells the case and drops the powder in the case at the same stroke. That's another reason why you need to keep separate tool heads for each caliber loaded (...and even each bullet style loaded within the same caliber...). Fiddlin with the belling adjustment is tedious. Hope this gives a bit of help on the subject. There are a bunch of dillon folks on the forum; im sure they will chime in as they see the post. If ya run into problems, just post a question or call the dillon tech support guys. They are a great resource. leroy
  2. CP:_______________ You might want to free float the barrel. What it amounts to is findin where the stock touches the barrel (...like near the forend...) and just sanding the stock away from the barrel. Take the time to do some searches on bedding and free floating barrels. Your ruger 77 should work just fine with it's "stock" wooden stock. I've got an old model 77 308 varmiter with the "stock" stock that will regularly shoot a 5 shot group ya can lay a nickel over with good ammo and if you do your part holdin it. Ya may want to talk to some of our target shootin buddies here and see if they know any "shade tree" armorers who would free float the barrel and bed the action if you dont want to fool with it. You will be amazed at what these bolt rifles will do with just a tiny bit of tweaking. Hope this helps. leroy
  3. I'm sad to hear this too. I know all the folks that work at South Clinton Pawn. Larry was a great friend and fine man. Our prayers and sincere condolences are with his family and all those at South Clinton Pawn. This is a great loss. leroy
  4. Runner:______________ What ever ya decide to do on a gunsafe; buy one about twice as big as ya think you will need and it will be the right size (....for a while-- anyway...). good luck, leroy
  5. I fully agree. I think we'll wake up one mornin and find out the Iranian nuke infrastructure and capability has been nuked. The Israelis need to send a powerful message to these emerging nutty islamist states forming all over the middle east. Whupping the toughest guys on the block is an excellent way to do just that. I'm all for the pesky jews putting a nuclear cloud over iran. We should have done it several years ago. If we had, we wouldnt have a bunch of dead and wounded soldiers killed and maimed by iranian shaped charge explosives. leroy
  6. I hadnt thought about this piece of the "Tennessee Republican" pie. It makes perfect sense. Thanks for the wise observations. leroy
  7. Thanks for letting me know about the other thread. Interesting posts. I think Robert hit the nail square on the head here: I figure that he is worried about his "sterling reputation" in the political arena and is afraid of being embarrased by the future influx of real conservatives that will most likely give the senate to the republicans in 2012. Lamar is, indeed, a republican polititian. He is not a "conservative". Like others, i would love for him to retire. leroy
  8. Does anyone outside of me find this tidbit in the news to be interesting: Alexander Will Step Down as Chairman of U.S. Senate Republican Conference - Bloomberg If so; why? leroy
  9. Hate to hear it. I know how you feel. My old golden passed away a year ago the last of May and im still sniffing some from time to time when i think about him. leroy
  10. Thanks for posting this great clip. I think Judge Napolitano is dead right in his analysis. Thanks again. leroy

  13. We've got several percussion revolvers layin around; among them some 51 navies in 36 caliber. Bajabuc about said all ya need to know about loading. We did a bit of a different trick on lube. We used felt wads soaked in bore butter (...we melted the bore butter, and poured in the 500 or so wads. The wads soak the bore butter up....). We would load 3F (...black powder...), a lubed wad, then seat the ball. It was less mess for us; shooting for CAS. Makes for a "quick load". We used the uberti replicas too. They are well built and can be easily tuned too. The biggest problem we had with the black powder suff was getting the caps matched to the nipples. Be always had to experiment around to get the right cap to nipple fit. Another great tool is a cash capper (...link here: Product Listing ShootingSupplies ...). We used both the in line and universal. They are a great way to keep the caps safe and handy. A percussion revolver is a great thing. Fun to shoot, and as Bajabuc says, suprisingly accurate. Have fun! leroy
  14. SW:_____________ You could use a manners lesson not to mention a bit of education. You are in no position to determine whether im "feining offense" or not. More than that; you may not be smart enough to have a meaningful conversation with me. If ya dont like the posts; dont read 'em. I doubt that you are in a positon to reply to them without using childish pronouncements. I could care less whether you like my opinions or not. You decided to start this little spittin contest, not me. How's that for clearing up "misunderstandings"? leroy
  15. We'll keep him and his family in our prayers too. leroy
  16. Nah. It just keeps them shinier if they are in bags or in sealed containers. There are reloads around my house that have been reloaded since the middle eighties that look factory new. Hope this helps. leroy
  17. I like 'em!! Thanks for posting the pics. leroy

  23. Yes i can, if i so choose, but i didnt. I spoke in the vernacular of the old british empire (...as did bajabuc...). Expand your education a bit and read this: Israpundit » Blog Archive » The White Man’s Burden: Rudyard Kipling was Right . There were no "racial slurs" (...except in your and SW's mind....). There were satirical references to "stereotypes" reaching back into the old British empire days. The fact is, for the third time now, i have nothing but admiration for this hero. More than that, i believe as some others do here that he should have won the Victoria Cross. Now, we can quibble about that a bit; but personally i believe that this hero has, in fact, been passed over, quite possibly due to his ethnicity. Evidently your grammar school english teacher didnt do too good a job "espainin" what satire is. Here is the classical definition: ....a literary work holding up human vices and follies to ridicule or scorn . The "literary work" is my initial post. It wuz intended to both praise this man's heroism and to point up my take on "the vices and follies" of the esteemed british military establishment; specifically not awarding this genuine hero the Victoria Cross. More simply put; my take is: ... Aint it is interesting that this genuine hero was awarded the second highest british citation for his extreme bravery; not the first? I wonder why?. Could it be biases reaching back to the old colonial british days?? Interestin question aint it? There are some of us colonial rustics that entertain the thought that those very reasons harken back to the old colonial british empire days. Thus endeth the lesson. leroy
  24. Dolomite and TN:_____________ The "headspace"gage name is a bit misleading. The L. E. Wilson gage is simply a "go/no go" gage that sets the high and low ends of the "standard" chamber. As i remember, that amounts to about .010 in length. The gage has a little relief cut on top to give this "high/low" indication visually (...if ya have good eyes...). Or to allow ya to measure the actual overall case length with a depth gage. The gage will also do a check on neck "growth" to tell ya when to trim. Havin said all that: I think Dolomite's system is by far the best for competition ammo loading. Resizing the body as a separate operation ensures that the AR will reliably chamber and feed the target rounds. Hope this helps. leroy
  25. Well said bajabuc!!! Good work. leroy By the way SW: RE: this: Sounds a bit overbearing and preachy to me. Leave it to the "tolerance police" to turn a genuine admirative comment into a "racist dentigration." By the way; who elected you as the official conscience and arbitor of what is 'racist" and what aint? For the "truth" of this matter, see the post above. leroy
