For what it's worth; ive got a buddy that spent time in alaska. Mostly in town. He carried a 6 inch 357 everywhere he went. I like the 4 inch model 29, model 57, or model 27 (...or one of their variants, like a redhawk...) myself. leroy

Christopher Hitchens , R.I.P. --And Atheist Christmas remebrance
leroy replied to JG55's topic in General Chat
I'm adding a link here: How I found God and peace with my atheist brother: PETER HITCHENS traces his journey back to Christianity | Mail Online ... I recently read his brothers book that is mentioned in the article. It's a good read. It is well worth reading. leroy -
Me too with a little twist. I use the hornady fmj fp bullets. Great load. leroy

I have come to believe that it's far more about the money than it is justice for those who are wronged. As others have opined; we have a legal ENTERPRISE, and not a justice system. The attorneys on both sides, the officers of the court, and the judge will get paid no matter how many times the cases are tried. Our system of justice, designed as the best the world has ever seen, has been hijacked by the morally bankrupt, the cynical, and the money grubbers and has been turned into a joke. Folks need to remember this when they vote to keep judges (...appointed initially by political operatives...), when they vote for District Attorneys, and when they vote for politicos in general. I I've come to believe that the best course of action is to vote any incumbent out who has served more than two terms anywhere. I've also come to believe that we need to get rid of the bar association recommendation baloney and popularly elect all judges. That would go a long way toward cleaning up this smelly mess. leroy

Catfish:___________ I've carried a sig 238 everyday just like a pocket knife in my right front pocket for about a year and a half (...my old pocket carry pistol was a smith model 36; i still carry it from time to time...). The sig stopped the "hammer snag in the pocket" problem. I never go anywhere without it. It is light, reliable, and unobtrusive; exactly what a pocket pistol should be. I highly recommend it. All that bein said; it is a right handed pistol. I'm a lefty and had to learn to shoot it right handed. That wasnt a big problem, but it is an issue for some folks. I have been shootin pistols and revolvers for about 50 or so years now; and im a big believer in the words that other posters have spoken here: "... you get what you pay for..."; choose very wisely. If i liked the glock trigger system (...and i do, i've got 3 glocks for CCW...), i would look no farther than a kahr or a s & w 380. I like 'em both. I also like the bigger 380's like the walthers, sigs, and makarovs; even though they have fell out of favor with some. They are a little bit bigger than the current crop of small pistols; but are thin and easy to conceal. They work just fine too. I never worry about "customer service" on pistols. It has been my experience that abut 95%+ of problems can be traced to magazines with semiauto pistols. A mag may be a little bit pricey (...like the sig; -- $30 or so dollars; but so is a colt aftermarket...); but it will most likely fix the problem. The insides of these little pistols aint too complicated. Whatever ya decide to do, pick one you like, make it reliable, and practice with it. Have fun. leroy

I'm kinda like some of the other guys that love the Case and Tree Brand stuff. I do too; but its mostly a nostalga thing (....for me at least...) in carryin a real, genuine bone handled knife; which i almost never do now. I've been almost completely taken over by the "new" knife stuff mostly because i like bigger knives and because the new handle materials are so light. I love the Cold Steel stuff, spyderco, kershaw, and benchmade. I also like specific models of the CRKT and Boker stuff; especially the smaller knives like the Los Bandos bokers. leroy

Bless:____________ Dont worry about the "dents" in the 223. They wont hurt anything. RE: tumblers. Keep watchin and buy a good sized one (...one about a gallon in size....) that is on sale. I've got an old lyman that looks like a pumpkin. The dillon tumblers are good too. I would watch all the reloading supply house sale fliers. My guess is that a vibratory tumbler from lyman, rcbs, hornady, dillon, etc are all pretty good stuff. By the way, bigger is better here. Dont skimp on size. By the way, i bought 1000 hornady 55 grain fmj-bt bullets from midway the other day for about $77. They are highly thought of by lots of AR shooters. Watch for sales from midway, graf and sons, and our buddies at widners. Hope this helps a bit. leroy Hope thi

When perpetual war becomes the order of the day; the treatment of the warriors becomes "just another day at the office" and bureaucratic economics and breathtakingly stupid and insensitiive policies take over; all made by them that aint been shot at or put in harms way. I think Uncle Sam and his servants (....read that bureaucrats and 'wanna be bureaucrats", and military brass in high places ...) been doin some pretty heinous stuff. This is just another incident. Uncle Sam is lookin a whole lot more like Uncle Joe (....Joseph Stalin...) to me lately. Folks ought not to like this disrespecting of our fallen ones. Those at the top, the middle, and the bottom of this one ought to pay. People need to be outraged at this stuff. leroy

Been noticing that lots of folks like the +P light bullet loads (...125, 130, 140 grainers...). Do they shoot to the point of aim in your j frame? leroy

How Hard Is It to Get Special Deputy Commission?
leroy replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
It seems to me that i remember that before the "shall issue" CCW laws came into effect, the sheriff handed out the "special deputy" cards as a way to allow "going armed" in Tennessee. By the way, they were, in fact, passed out to brother political supporters. leroy -
Is it me or is there a media blitz on gun crimes lately?
leroy replied to Will Carry's topic in General Chat
Will:_____________ - We're gettin a little bit of it over here too. My local rag, the Knoxville News Sentinel ran a guest op ed by a "contributor" who was "horrified that knoxville had turned into Dodge city because she saw a guy in a suit with an OWB holster and gun". She did the usual whining about not needing a gun; all in a location where was a heinous a crime committed as ever was perpetrated in Tennessee; and the perpetrators slated for a retrial. The article ran in last sunday's sentinel. My guess is that it wont get too much traction here, even among the weak minded; but they always keep trying. I tend to think it is anti-gun "group think". Holder is takin a beating, Nobama is takin a beating, and the anti-2A douchbags are out trying to do their part to help them out. Looks like it aint workin here. I drove by the local gunshow facility here in knoxville a few minutes ago (...about 10:45 or so...) and there was a line about 200 or so feet long watin to get in and the parking lot was overflowing. Looks to me like the knoxville news sentinel and their stinkin staff aint doin too good a job swaying local opinions. HEHEHE. leroy -
rod:______ To add a bit to Mikes post above; we have several cimmaron cap and ball revolvers. They are excellent quality for the mone and are very reliable. I think the cimmaron stuff is finished better than the corresponding uberti (....uberti used to make cimmaron under contract...). We have a whitneville dragoon (...first dragoon variant...) and a remington 1858. They work like a charm and do it at a reasonable price. Hope this helps a bit. leroy

kp:_________________ Congratulations on your neat present. You will enjoy it. Now it's time to start workin on reloading equipment to feed your new pistola. They shoot really well with the 240 to 250 lswcs and 7.0 grains of 231 or 8 grains of unique. No teeth rattlin; just a good solid kaboom and a reasonable kick. Have fun and enjoy your new gift! leroy

Tug:______________ Congrats on your glock. RE: Sights. Get the ones on sale. They are all good. Ive got trijicons and meprolites. They are all about the same. enjoy leroy

Folks:_______________ Never complain about not having a state income tax. I would much rather have a sales tax that taxes EVERYONE who chooses to buy something; great to small, poor to rich, visitor to citizen. I am an old retired engineer; i paid the "infamous" $400 priviledge tax too. I will grant that while most all governments (...including the one in Tennessee...) are heinous, the sales tax version of taxation is better than the "income tax" version. The "income tax" can be gilflirted to fabor groups and pets. The sales tax cant. leroy

I hate to hear it man!! I think the 300 idea is a great one; but i understand that "efficient use of funds" thing too. I try to save a little at a time and round up parts a few at a time. It took about a year to do the last one. leroy

Caster:____________ You got the same problem i got, man!!! Ya got "AR Variantitis" !!!!. I want to do a 300 blackout myself. Savin up for the barrel and other goodies. I think ill round up a wilson barrel (....link here: 300 AAC Blackout-Wilson Combat ...). I think the blackout will be the "best" 30 caliber ar variant (...as other have said...) simply because it only needs a barrel. No special bolt, no special mags, no special nothin. Tou can even make the brass from 223. I cant wait to round my stuff up either. Gonna do a 16 inch free float flattop with a rifle length handguard. Keep up the good work! leroy

It's a great find. I thought from your initial description that it was an open top (...the 1871 notation...). I will join with others in opinin that this is a pretty valuable old colt. I dont know if ive ever seen one much cleaner around these parts. Check out Collector's Firearms and Cherrys Fine Guns on the first generation stuff. I predict that you will be pleasantly surprized. Enjoy leroy

How do you carry your j-frame?
leroy replied to Parrothead's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Front or hip pocket with an AHolster pocket holster or a good leather pocket holster. I tend to keep the pants a bit large; so it's not a problem. Here is another great (...but a bit pricey...) solution from Andrews Custom leather (....link here: Andrews Custom Leather ...). Take a look at their carjacker. Works like charm if ya sit down in the car. leroy -
WD brings up a great point here. Some folks see their dog (...hunting or pet; especially bird, fox, retrievers, and coon hunting buddies....) as extremely valuable and scarce resources and/or genuine non talkin members of the family. Killin one without serious justification could result in another killin. I well remember as a boy seein folks feud over hunting dogs. That's been a long time ago, but some things just dont change. leroy
