  1. I'm running a similar set up but with the CAP front it has a square insert it really jumps out. I also ordered the rear with a single tritium tube. it has no serrations and it doesn't bother me. I like them enough that I'll try another set but with the Orange insert for comparison. Ameriglo was very responsive to questions I had about mixing front & rear sights that were outside the normal sets they offer.

I ordered from SG Ammo last time. http://www.sgammo.com/product/federal/50-round-box-9mm-federal-hst-124-grain-jhp-hollow-point-le-ammo-p9hst1 http://www.sgammo.com/product/speer/50-round-box-9mm-speer-gold-dot-124-grain-standard-pressure-le-hollow-point-ammo-53618 I compare price per round plus shipping when shopping around, but these guys have been pretty consistent with pricing particularly on handgun defensive stuff. Good luck
  3. I got 49, but I did guess on two. Hard to tell 20ga from 16ga, etc. There was one that the answer was 270 win, but I got it wrong the scale looked wrong, maybe how my tablet displays the images. I was surprised as many of the cartridges I've never handled.
  4. I use them for competition & carry. The fiber optic part helps in daylight. I just put the CAP on my M&P and also far like them.
  5. Its been in Dayton, TN tge last two times. He does it on the night that the time changes. It was very good. I'm likely to take it again. If you do, bring a blue gun, and a training knife along with your edc flashlight to get the most out of it. Part of the class is simulations and this gear will be useful.
  6. You won't regret it! Take a look at the Ameriglo CAP sights, also the Truglo TFX Pro.
  7. If you're willing to drive a bit. Cruelhand luke (Randy Harris) has an east TN north AL training group that meetsc atva range just over the AL line in warmer weather I think he charges $60 for the day. The subjects vary and I haven't gone to one of these sessions yet but I did take his low light class and I WILL be attending this summer a couple of times. Randy is a great guy and didn't waste time. The class was professional and worth every penny. Look him up on here by his screen name and send him a pm to get on his email list. He also posts items on TGO in the training forum. Look through his old posts to see what he offers.
  8. Video here. https://www.full30.com/video/1b908493c8de1784af3a1a7d88ac1984 Summary, rail has 1913 size slot, no grip cut out on front (won't take gen 5 mags), PVD finish in coyote , dual recoil spring. The rest is gen 5 For Glock guys i don't know if this is a win or not.
  9. Yes M&P 2.0 compact 9mm. I don't shoot Glocks well, its a grip angle thing and I never committed to training through it because I had other alternatives I liked. I am very happy with my Sig P320 and Canik TP9 SF Elite, but was wanting something with greater industry support. This is it. The over all package isn't spectacular, it doesn't have one feature that is super outstanding, but it does everything above average. I'm already shooting it as well as other guns I own and I enjoy it enough to be shooting it more, and that will turn into shooting better. I'll probably buy a spare.
  10. n0rlf, try Mike at Downhome Outdoor Addiction on Market St in Dayton just over the mountain from Pikeville. They have treated me right on a couple of things and have earned more of my business for the future.
  11. I'll follow thus with interest. I have a small blowout kit, CAT tourniquet, quick clot, Israeli bandage, compressed gauze, med scissors, and a few other small items. I have a basic understanding of how to use it all, but no formal training. I have heard of fire trucks pulling gates down with chains, or cutting them, either way it slows them down, and may prevent you from being able to leave in the event of an injury.
  12. Given that the grip is the hardest part to conceal this makes sense. Im not sure what the performance gain is for CCW purpose, but to each his own...
  13. I think that there is room for innovative thinking. The Hudson H9 is an example of relocating the locking lugs, and the recoil spring for a lower bore axis. I think the mainstream companies avoid this because they all now have shareholders to report to. Too much fear of failure. Small operations must think like this to get a leg up. Is the H9 the future? I'm not sure but it is a real evolutionary step, time will tell...
  14. So perfection is now the same pistol everyone else used to make and now that they are making G19 clones Glock felt left out and is going to make this? Strange...
  15. Thought this might be an interesting item to discuss. I received this as a gift and have had a few days to use it. I was interested in this as a dryfire aid. It scores your shot 0-99.9 based on how steady the weapon is in the last moments before a shot, at the break, and for a few seconds after. It gives you tips based on the relative motion at the break. Too much trigger finger, thumbing, etc. I've used it dry fire and it is interesting to compare what I thought I did on a shot to what Mantis tells me I did. Note that it does not know what target you are looking at, you can aim at a blank wall and just watch your sights, or use a target. A blank wall is educational for seeing what your movement is and it encourages me to sight focus rather than target focus. In live fire it was interesting to see what score was equal to my combat accuracy standard of all shots inside 8" at 10 yds as quickly as I can. A Mantis score of 70 equals this level of accuracy for me. This helps me know what my dry practice score minimum score MUST be. It might also would be useful at a range to score yourself without retrieving the target I tnink... I need to spend more time with it to track any verifiable improvement in my shooting. For now I'm happy with it and l think it will be a useful tool particularly for dry practice. I travel quite a bit and will be using it away from home a lot. Even when I'm home I'll try to use it daily for a 5min lunch time dry practice session. Interesting experiment I did was use it to test my scores with different back straps on my M&P 2.0. I liked the feel with the medium, but the app says I'm 0.1 seconds faster on target with the meduim/large. Ill have to see if this holds up as true over time. Set up info. I'm using the Android app and it was easy enough to pair to my phone. The app doesn't work with my tablet. I have it mounted on the rail now, but will be mounting on a magazine floor plate so I can use it with a holster. I have not set up a mantis account, or entered into the app any personal or gun details and it seems to not be needed. So far it has detected every live fire shot, but it does miss dry shots occasionally, maybe 5%. There is a sensitivity adjustment setting, but I haven't used it yet. There are several training modes some timed, some not. There are a couple of reload training modes as well. These may be useful for malfunction drills too but I haven't tried yet. Interesting toy that has exceeded my expectations to become a useful tool for training.
  16. I want to get my home range finished up by June. This will help with practice... I'd like to make it to a few of Randy Harris (cruel hand luke) classes this year, the're a bargan. I'm probably going to tgge NRA show in Dallas this year. I have a friend going from there and we haven't gotten together in a while. Probably going to pick up a pocket pistol this year too.
  17. Ok, I think I'm done except for practice Ameriglo CAP front sight, and I Dot rear. Its nice that they let you buy the individual sights. Good customer service answered my questions by email the same day. Tough things to get a picture of. The Square front is different but I was able to put two mags through the gun to confirm zero and I like it!
  18. I'm in Rhea county just north of Chattanooga. Same road treatment here. We get a lot of fog and I think they are worried about it forming black ice when the temp goes down in the next 24 hours. Because of our elevation were expecting to ring in the new year with no temperature at all!

I'm using Federal HST 124gr. I've found it to be accurate, and reliable. Speer Gold Dot is also very well respected. Dave is right buy boxes of 50 on line rather than the expensive 20rnd boxes in a big box store. You'll save a bundle. I like the 124gr bullet but 147gr would be good as well.

I picked on 1911's only because that's a very common example. Tight anything won't run full of lint and daily dirt from carry. Even reliable weapons need to be inspected regularly. I once found the remains of what I think was a brown m&m blocking the hammer on a high power that wouldn't fire. The customer couldn't believe it. It took me 30 seconds to find, he never even looked! He also hadn't shot the gun in 6 months. I haven't had a good quality modern gun choke on me in a long time. Feed them well and give them a little love... After all your life may depend on it!
  21. I've only had about 30min with it but so far it's working well, the app doesn't crash, my phone. I'll have to try it on a couple of guns, striker, hammer etc. I will say that it helps me be more critical of myself by showing the movement of the gun before the shot, and does that match what I think I was doing. Give me a week and I'll post more, maybe start a thread. I want to get some live fire in with it too.

I just picked one up too. For me the rule is 100 rounds of ball to start, a good clean & lube, then 50 rounds of my carry ammo. If everything is then 100% I'll load up and carry after a cleaning. Then I will shoot 2 mags of my carry ammo a month for a couple of months. To me it's just as important to see how the gun works from my carry gear after being carried full of lint etc. The only way to do that is to carry it then shoot it as carried. A few cycles like this gives me confidence, and is motivation to practice. Interestingly I have seen plenty of tight tolerance 1911s that won't pass this test. They'll run when clean, but the daily grime of carry can cause malfunctions. I've also seen plenty of other 1911's that will pass this test. That's what taught me to do it... Nice choice by the way. I really like mine.
  23. I received a late gift of a Mantis X training system. Interesting toy to help with dryfire feedback.
  24. They had a good deal in N.Y. for more than 100 years, lots of history in those old buildings.... The move wasn't good for them they lost a lot of institutional knowledge when people didn't move with the company. It's tough to recover from that countless small things make a good design into a great gun. The management has been awful on top of the loss of institutional knowledge. I don't think they can recover now... I hope I'm wrong.
  25. Sad but true.... still wouldn't buy a current Remington pistol, and would be cautious about the the long guns. They are not tgge company they used to be. As Trump would say SAD!
