While I have already introduced myself, I thought I would start another post that others thinking of joining the TGO community. I lurked around the TGO forum for a while then signed up for a free membership. After I did I found that other members have been VERY helpful and willing to share their knowledge. I am so impressed that i signed up as a paid member. Frankly it’s a bargain. For the cost of a good dinner with a drink I now have access to the TGO community and am doing my part to keep it up and running. Thanks to everyone here at TGO and I look forward to being a member of this fine community for a long time! Bob

RO/SO Training for USPSA & IDPA
Sidecarist replied to Sidecarist's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Perfect. Will you post it here, or somewhere else so I can make sure to not miss it. Thanks again Bob -
Years ago I was a RO/SO for both USPSA and IDPA. As I'm getting back into the game after about 10 years off. I'd like to renew those certifications and help out at some matches. If any of the clubs are holding the training let me know. Thanks, Bob

Glad I could help. I hope it shoots as good as that target looks! Bob

Looking at that group if true then the muzzle may have been counterbored to re-crown the barrel. If so you should be able to see a distinct step not far from the end of the barrel when looking from the muzzle end. Bob

I've seen some like this in the past. It's hard to tell how it will shoot. Looking at the bore with a scope would tell more. It is likely that the rifle was shot with corrosive primed ammunition the bore may look like the surface of the moon... With the cartridge fitting in the muzzle like that two things come to mind. 1. The bore is heavily worn by cleaning from the muzzle with the military rod. 2. Confirm that the cartridge you have is the correct caliber. It would be best to have the gun checked by a gunsmith to ensure safe operating condition, headspace, and caliber. Those old rifles lead a hard life! Bob

I'm in Dayton. I'm looking for outdoor ranges, and a club to join. I've found a couple of clubs, Cleveland & Chattanooga but they are 1 hour away ×/-. I also don't know much about them. Thoughts and opinions Will be helpful.

I have a Sig P220 Equnox and it has a Siglite rear, and a Truglo TFO front. I really like this set up Tritium at night, Fiberoptic front during the day. I will be installing a set of Truglo TFX Pro sights on an older Sig P229. I am really impressed withthese as they have a big Orange dot surrounding the front dot that helps in low or dim light, The fiber optic stands out in bright light, and the Tritium is great in very little light. If $$ are an issue I unstalled a HighViz front on my shield and it has helped a lot for fast sight aquisition. The front sight is the most important and is where your attention should be focused. Spending a few bucks on good sights doesn't bug me, without good sights the pistol isn't much good... I know you don't want to gamble and have to buy another set so looking at the LGS, or better yet seeing at a range is your best bet. Bob

Thanks Kevin. It might be a while but I will take you up on your offer. I have a lot of travel in the next couple months but then it should settle down. What club do you belong to?

Warren county NY? That's where I was (Bolton Landing). Things have changed even there... I could pick anywhere east of the Mississippi I picked east TN. We found the right house in Dayton and couldn't be happier. Everyone has been very welcoming and we are sure that we made the right choice. I look forward to meeting some of you in person soon. Bob

Thanks for the suggestions I like to support local businesses when I can. It also saves on shipping. I'm just getting back into reloading after several years off from shooting centerfire. I haven't started shooting in TN yet as I'm still getting settled but have plans to visit IDPA mashes at ORSA, Cleveland, and I'm sure there are others. I haven't tried coated bullets, typically I used hard cast in the 45 and plated in the 40, I am just getting set up to load 9mm.

Thanks! I knew it must be in here some where. Bob

Hello. I'm new to TN a transplant from the Adirondack mountains in the great white north of fascist NY. I've been an active 4 position small bore shooter for 25 years, I've also run and shot IDPA, IPSC, & IHMSA matches but it's been a while. Being that I'm new to TN I'm looking for good places to shoot. I've looked on the forum but not found a places to shoot topic. Maybe I've missed it some where. Is there such a list? I'm looking forward joining the TN shooting community. Bob

I didn't realize the Sigs were ambi too. More to look at! His and hers guns for sure. I'm pretty well set up with Sigs, Colt 1911, and a few others. What I want is something easier for her to manipulate. I've had years of shooting experience but now the wife is interested it's an excuse to buy something new. I hadn't bought a new pistol in 112 years until I picked up the Shield a few weeks ago. What's available has changed a lot in 10-12 years! It looks like we have many more options than I thought. Thanks for the input Bob

I'm new to the area and looking for a source for cast bullets in east TN. Mostly 9mm 115gr or 124gr and 45 200gr can be SWC or RN. Thanks Bob

Thanks to all for your advice. I haven't handled the VP9,didn't realize the M&P 9 has ambi slide release. We're going to have to get to a range that rents and get a feel for them. The reason we want the ambi slide release isn't for reloads, she does the slingshot method just fine for releasing it, it's more about locking it open without a mag. As a woman with less strength and being left handed it's awkward at best and sometimes she wants to keep the mags loaded and clear the gun. Yes training helps but there is much to be said for having the best tool for the job. Right now we both shoot the shield fine, but it does require better technique than a compact or full size. Just for the fun of it try and lock the slide back left handed on your right hand pistols. It's harder than you might think at first. It made me think about being in a truly weak hand only situation and having to manipulate the gun, clear malfunctions weak hand only etc. We appreciate all the advice. Bob

I'm looking for a fully left handed/ambi 9mm pistol. I'm right handed, and my wife is left handed. Grip size is important as my wife has small hands. I really want something easy for her to use. Currently we have an M&P shield. It works ok but she has difficulty with the slide stop in particular. I know the FNS pistols are fully ambi, any other options I have missed?? Thanks! Bob

I'll take the title Redneck and own it! It's a sign of hard work as friends as I'm concerned. Interestingly I wasn't in a conversation where I had to justify myself. It was a more honest and open conversation. It ended with them saying "I never thought of it like that" I find it a bit curious that some people seem to find themselves shocked into seeing our world from a new viewpoint. They're shocked to discover that we might not be as safe as they thought. Evil and terrorism aren't just in some other pace any more... They also don't have a clue what to do about it! Bob

I was asked about why I own guns and why it's important to me... I thought I would share my response. As a Citizen of the USA I choose to exercise my rights as written in the Bill of Rights. All of these rights are important but the first two particularly so as they ensure that the Citizens remain in control rather than the government. Our nation was founded on the idea of independence. This basic idea has been educated out of many of our Citizens. Most of us can no longer support ourselves. We rely on to many other people to provide services to us Food, Security, Shelter, etc. Most people expect to live a secure safe life and want to depend on others to keep us that way. For these people security is a phone call away they HOPE.... What US Citizens are learning it that this isn't true and never was! Our police do their best, but they cannot save us from the truly BAD people that live in this world. They simply can't respond quickly enough. The police officers know this but are powerless themselves to correct the situation. It’s a simple time-speed-distance math problem, and all the hope in the world can't change that. The terrorists and criminals in our society are nothing more than bullies. If we GIVE them power over us they will use it. Don't EVER give a bully anything, If you make a bully work for it they always quit. They want what they want the easy way. If you make it hard for them they always quit ALWAYS. The mentally ill and criminally insane have no feelings and the only way to deal with them is eliminate them from our society. This is the place that our police can best help us. They are trained to remove these psychopaths and sociopaths. The best way for you and I to prevent them from killing us is to be vigilant, know your neighbors, and be a functioning member of your community. Do not isolate yourself, and hide. Speak up and stand up in your community. An armed and outspoken Citizenry is the only solution. Evil people exist and are only held in check by the fact that there are more good people than bad. There are many old sayings about this, but the best I ever read was "Given that there are more good people than bad people. What would happen if All the good people and All the bad people had guns?" (Col. Jeff Cooper) As Citizens it isn't just our right, I think it is our responsibility to take care of our own security, help our neighbors, express our thoughts and listen to others. Never act in a lawless manner, but be prepared to defend yourself and others. Carry, Vote, Speak the truth (in no particular order) Bob
