  1. I have a Shield 9 and love it. I did add a Hi Viz fiber optic front sight. I find that it helps me with picking up the front sight quicker. Other than that I haven't changed a thing. I would highly recommend it.
  2. I signed up as a benefactor after seeing the quality of the members and administration. TGO is one of the best run forums if seen. I learned more about the benefits here. The calendar is big. I didn't know could have a custom title (I'll have to look at this). I also need to spend some time in the blog section too. Thanks to all that make TGO great
  3. I have an early SIG P229 thathe hs been shot more than I can count I also have 2 3rd Gen S&W 4013 and a 4026 that have been great guns. Previously also had a Taurus PT101. All are fine weapons but the SIG is the favorite with the 4013 second. Everyone's comments are spot on. Can be snappy but not bad. Fter all that I carry a 45 SIG and feel very well equipped. Use the highest performance weapon that you shoot the best.
  4. Just warms my heart... a great way to start the year
  5. For defensive use you and only you can decide what is best. You have to believe in the weapon completely. I love my 1911 and have carried the Commander in my avatar for years, I have switched to the Sign P220 equinox. It has better sights, and honestly for me it is simply new. The colt is 20 years old! My point is that buy what you can afford and believe in. I'm not a fan boy of any brand. I like what works and it irritates me that with weapons like so many things American companies can't get it right it's easier to take shortcuts and sell subpar products. Current 1911'state are crappy not because of the design but because of crappy manufacturing!
  6. No mag disconnect on a Radom VIS 35. The mag follower can drag on the slide slowing it just enough to keep the extractor from fully engaging the rim. Not common, but in these old guns with questionable magazines and poor maintenance/cleaning it can happen. I believe in this case it only happens on the last round. So the example in the photo may not apply. I'd bet the extractor tension is off a bit too. Without hands on it is "hard tellin not knowin"
  7. All I can say is you are AWESOME! She sure looks like she feels safe. Thanks for the update.
  8. It's sad that the 1911 is produced by so many companies and poorly at that! Just because it was expensive doesn't make it the best or make it right. The 1911 can be 100% reliable I have 2 series 80 Colts and a Frankenstein gun that are. The design has weaknesses but they can be dealt with. It's a complete shame that the basic gun has had its reputation tarnished like this. Shame on Kimber for not doing the right thing and delivering what you paid for. It's not the fault of John Browning or his design that the skill and craftsmanship needed to produce his design (or other designs) have been lost. Glock and others have earned their reputation by supplying consistently high quality products. They deserve that reputation. If we as Americans want that level of quality then demand it! I don't know Kimbers reputation for product support, but it's a shame they weren't made to fix your weapon. I'm sure you paid enough for it to demand satisfaction. Glock and others have figured out how to get loyalty from customers. What are American companies doing to earn that same loyalty? Rant off......
  9. Amen A Happy, Safe, and Prosperous New Year to All!
  10. Almost. I should have specified compact/full size, and available in 40 & 45 too. The solo is cool, but not for me although it is comparable to the shield in size.
  11. Or an alloy framed striker gun with 1911 egos and a spectacular trigger... How many would buy that?
  12. I have an early P229, it's probably up around 10ķ rounds fired and is stone reliable. My newer P220 is equally so. I also have a P320 and with only a few hundred rounds through it I have no complaints. There are too many unknowns to have an opinion based on just these posts. SIG like all major manufacturers stands behind their products I'm sure they would have made your 2022 right for you. I like the classic SIGs better bether but I don't have anything bad to say about the polymer guns either (regardless of brand)
  13. A good gunsmith can spot drill the sights and give you white dots, or you can use one of the many sign paints and do your own in a variety of colors. I don't know of anyone making sights specifically for these pistols, but some may be adapted to them without too much work.
  14. I've shot enough compensated/ported guns in low light to have strong feelings about this. We all have our opinions thank god for that!
  15. Considering how many defensive situations take place in low light why direct more muzzle flash up into your line of sight? Under stress you won't even notice the recoil but preserving as much of your night vision as possible seems like a good idea. No ports or comps on my EDC guns.
  16. Welcome I think you will find all he help you need right here.
  17. Not sure what kind of help you're looking for. Do you need a gunsmith recommendation or do you want advice on doing it yourself? Where is the gun shooting? Have you had others shoot it to confirm its point of impact for you? We will need more info to get you pointed in the right direction (pun intended)
  18. This guy was a rescue 7 years ago. Total cost for me to adopt was $28.00. I just couldn't live with that and gave the shelter $300. He came from a rescue center in upstate NY that picked up dogs from kill shelters in Georgia. He isn't a great guard dog, but is the best friend I could have. He's so gentle that once he caught a whitetail fawn (think bambi spots and all) when the fawn cried he put it down and licked it to calm it. Mama deer wasn't too happy with him but everyone was safe and moved on after a moment. All I think of is all the great times we have had together might never have been if it weren't for great kind people like Reefermac, and Mrsmonkeyman. By the way Mrs Reefer and Monkey man are lucky people too! Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
  19. Watching this take place is just SO COOL!
  20. Give it a serious cleaning then look closely at the tip of the magazine follower for burrs that could cause drag, tell bottom of the slide where it could contact the mag as well. When cleaning make sure you get the hook of the extractor clean there is usually dried up very hard deposits there. (A dental pick helps) The extractor is 1911 style and tension can be adjusted by a gunsmith. Magazines used to be made by Triple K Good luck these can be real good shooters but many have lived a hard life of little or no maintenance. I had one in my shop years ago that wouldn't run at all. After I stripped tell Krylon spray paint off it was 100%!
  21. Good on all of you for making this happen. I tried to talk my wife into taking her but we just aren't ready for amother dog. Thank you very much Reefermac and mrsmonkeyman and the un named others. I'm sure daisy will be happy and healthy now.
  22. Hello and welcome. I have a Shield 9, and a P320 compact in 9mm. Both are fine weapons, but totally different in terms of concealability. The Shield is very slim easier to conceal, but harder to shoot well with the short sight radius and somewhat heavy trigger. The P320 has a better trigger but is substantially larger. It's easier to shoot as well. I would suggest visiting range where you can rent and try before you buy.
  23. I'm going to have to stop in there next time I'm in Knoxville. Sounds like a well stocked place and doing business with others from TGO is just good sense. I'lll make a point of asking for you Mike and introduce myself. Here's another one that was a late gift this year. I've had one other Orphan Barrel Whiskey called Barterhouse that was quite good. It had lots of oak with quite a bit of bite. I'm waiting to try this one because I have 4 bottles going now and it gets out of hand quick. Cheers!
  24. I wouldn't replace the motor, I'd have it repaired/rewound. It will cost you far less than a new motor. Look for electric motor repair shops in your area.
  25. Over lubed but clean. Drop it in the he dirt before shooting it... Like most things moderation is the key. Lubrication has to be on the working surfaces to be effective. Too little is probably worse than too much if you clean your weapon regularly. Many people don't maintain either cleanliness or lubrication in balance. Use something slippery and put it on the moving parts where they contact other parts and you're good to go. Motor oil may work just fine for you as long as you use it. Interesting video to watch!
