  1. Rowan is one of my favorites enjoy!
  2. Cast Iron is awful brittle... Better to clean them up and cook bacon!
  3. Now that's a great idea! but keep one of them concealed...
  4. You're welcome, I'm glad that Coop is gaining. Years ago a buddy rescued a retired sled dog (Siberian husky) that had been neglected and was nearly starved. It took several weeks for him to even be able to keep food down in any quantity because he was so messed up. But with a little love he recuperated and was dragging kids up the sledding hill just for fun and love of running. I don't know that he ever got over being hungry! Fritz could go through dog food by the pallet! Sadly he passed away in his sleep after about 5 years but his last years were incredibly happy and he was loved. You are doing good work!
  5. SOm     Some of us are very lucky in so many ways giving back a bit is easy and so worth it! Mrs Monkeyman deserves a huge thank you for doing what she can. Of course I'm sure that she is getting lots of thanks from the puppies!   You sure do have a winner there Monkeyman
  6. Oh I forgot some more whiskey, and the knife Gran Torino is making for me
  7. I used to resemble that... now she's getting married and in my ripe old years I like my 40 & my whiskey, the 10mm, 45, 9, 41mag, 22, ---- you get the point.
  8. If it shoots then I like it.
  9. Ain't that true! I just got done reworking the primer pockets on 2000 45acp cases I had laying around.
  10. The Bren X the gun that almost wasn't, then was, then wasn't again... Created a cartridge that broke a lot of Delta Elites, faded away and was reborn after people figured out how good it was and started designing guns to work with it and last. To think with out the Been X none of that would have ever happened! Oh and the answer is no, never bought a TV or Movie gun, but there is still time.
  11. How can you have a transaction as part of TGO if you aren't a member and this is your first post?
  12. For me it's about using my SA to never get in the situation where I have a 2 on 1 attack happening. Thankfully I've always been able to avoid such situations. I hope I always will be able to avoid them. Plus I choose to not open carry in public places to reduce the chances of being targeted. Everyone has to make their own choices and deal with the consequences.
  13. Retention techniques aren't something most people practice not even LEO's. The best way to retain your weapon is that no one knows you have it. Situational awareness is the best skill anyone can have to prevent a conflict in the first place. No need to be paranoid just highly aware of your surroundings. I try to do this as best I can, but I'm still surprised by things sometimes. I also agree that for many open carry is as much a political statement as a serious self defense strategy.
  14. Well said. It is surprising how easy it is to have something unknowingly picked from your pocket.
  15. And a socialist senator running for President... Vermont is strange. I have many friends from there and it is explainable.   As an aside how is it "free market" if it is mandated by the state? Insurance companies can already ask about your possessions when writing a homeowners policy, and frequently they will exclude expensive items that are not disclosed ahead of time. I think the free market is already working fine thank you!
  16. Personal opinion here... If you are going to carry Open or Concealed it is a responsibility to maintain a higher level of awareness. Condition Yellow. Its not that hard, but vigilance has to become a state of mind. A major part of that is not making yourself a target. My biggest problem with open carry is that by its nature you become a target for criminals, reporters, business owners, etc. It's not worth the bother. Carry concealed and that solves the problem. It's a shame that the guy was caught unaware of these two criminals, I have no way of knowing if he was doing his best to be vigilant against such an attack or not. Just my $0.02 on the open carry thing. Not an accusation against the victim.   Sadly many good people are denied the right to CCW.   I am a bit skeptical because this happened in VA... After the whole reciprocity thing and the attention to open carry in VA being a way around the loss of reciprocity this happens. Makes ya think...
  17. I don't belong to any clubs yet, but will be joining Cleveland shortly. I've just moved to TN and am still getting things settled. It won't be long before I start shooting again. I'll make a plate that fits into the t-rail. If I dig I think I have a piece of 2.5in aluminum plate.
  18. Tough to avoid that these days at any kind of reasonable price... sad but true
  19. I really like this one. http://pistol-training.com/drills/dot-torture You can print the target here. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://pistol-training.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/04/dot-torture-target.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwjWnuHzkdrKAhVB2mMKHelQBpsQFggbMAA&usg=AFQjCNFoKrsIpXJPlkRRsxcI7l5xNgEg3w Start at 3yds. It's tougher than it looks and it will renforce good marksmanship while improving gun handling. If your range doesn't allow draw from a holster start from low ready
  20. I'm closer to Chattanooga so that's where I'll start. Thanks for telling info on the target. Now ammo will be he issue. I'm almost out of Eley black, but still have a couple of bricks of Federal gold medal that shot awesome.
  21. THis may be surprising, but the Shield was my first polymer gun. I didn't have any history to work from. I do like it very much. THe only addition was a Hiviz fiber optic front sight
  22. You will see me in March first for the fight at night class!   Thanks
  23. Well, you all have me thinking about giving ARA a shot with he equipment I have (an FWB Free Rifle) maybe I'll add a tuner to the rifle, but that's about all it needs. I will also have to make a flat bottom for the forend that fits into the rail so it will ride the rest better, and remove the butt hook.   The next consideration is the optics. I assume you are shooting with a dot reticle. What size are you using? or what are the ID dimensions of the two BOLD rings on the ARA target? I have a 36x with 3/8moa Dot, and 32x Unertl programmer with 1/2moa Dot, and I believe that I have another 36 with 1/8moa dot.   Advise?
  24. I am willing, and should be able (schedule TBD)... If there is still a slot open as of April 1 I'll take it. I just wish I knew my schedule out that far.   Is there a class size limit?
