[quopte name="peejman" post="1362607" timestamp="1456780975"]My wife had (has) some follow-through issues as well. It took some coaching to get her to hold the trigger to the rear until the sight picture returns. I think doing that helps keep her grip firm through recoil instead of relaxing immediately after the shot breaks. I first noticed it in the form of her resetting her grip after every shot. It takes some discipline to only move the trigger finger and not relax the whole hand during trigger reset. Yes, the more I think about it the more I think she was almost releasing the grip in anticipation of recoil. Encouraging follow through helps keep the grip firm, or in full contact allowing the slide to cycle fully. I think this is also made worse by wanting to shoot multiple shots quickly. One shot at a time with good follow through really helped.

What, no 10mm! You're slipping...

Decades of coaching smallbore rifle has taught me the value of follow through, but that is with single shot rifles. Different dynamics... I never realized that you could force a malfunction this way, I think the is actually caused by recoil anticipation but encouraging follow trough was the solution. I learn something every day and I thought this one might be helpful for other's.

I had an interesting problem while coaching a new shooter. She is new to handguns in particular, and a novice with long guns. The problem was regular stove pipe/FTE failures with a S&W shield 9, and also with a Sig P320 in 9mm. Nothing I suggested would cure this. My thinking was that she was limp wristing. After some very careful observation I noticed that her trigger finger was coming off the trigger on reset. As much as I had emphasized pressing the trigger she was aagressivly anticipating recoil and muzzle blast. This anticipation or pushing the gun was the cause of the stove pipe FTE. It took some time but slowing down and deliberately pressing and holding the trigger to the rear (follow through) for each shot solved the problem, 100% reliability was achieved. Speed will have to be worked on, but I don't expect that to be a problem. This isn't my idea, I remember reading it somewhere and it just clicked when I saw her pushing the gun and her hyper agressive reset. I thought that this might be helpful to others.

Great review. Lots of good in here. I just ordered a Hornady lnl a with case feeder. I did lots of research beforehand and had to look at multiple sources to get this much info. This would have saved me quite a bit of time. I was really on the fence and only ordered the Hornady because I got a great deal. After I get it and use it some I'll post a review as well. I hope I can do as good a job as Comms did here.

How could anyone do this to a John Browning Design?

I've seen some photos of stuff like this that came out of the Phillipines right after WW2. Pretty crazy to think thatsomething as crude as this can be made to shoot. -
If yu are thinking about grips. The Hogue checkered G10 grips are almost exactly the same size come in the Legion series. They will be a bit larger than tell stock grips too. I will be putting a set on my 229 soon

I learn some of the coolest things on TGO! I don't need this now and maybe never but just being aware of the possibilities could be helpful in the future. Thanks and I hope that whatever issues you have can be straightened out!

I still think there are plenty of existing laws that would apply such as reckless endangerment and many others. It feels good to try and do something specific but is it the only way to handle this type of case? Have any irresponsible people NOT been charged in such cases because this law didn't exist? We have so many laws on the books it's nearly impossible to keep track of them all. Many are conflicting or contradictory. I think the standard for passing new laws and regulations should be "is this the ONLY way to dour this"

I haven't needed it for a long time, but I am almost out of Solo 1000 and can't find it anywhere. I'd buy an 8lb bottle if available. Has anyone seen it in stock?

I Hava a 226 Sao legion. My wife bought me. (She's a keeper!) See this post for my thoughts http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/94892-sig-p226-legion/ I'll put it up against a Kimber for fit and probably better function. If you already have the 229. I'd add the grips from hogue, and a little trigger work and the SRT kt and you're almost there for less. Not as pretty as the Kimberly 1911 but still cool.

I'm about to start loading 40 again. I used to use AA5 by the 8lb bottle. Meters nice, pretty clean and was reasonably priced. I'll probably try titegroup now because I have a bunch, but that's the only reason.

One word. Uplula... It will loosen up a bit but that last round will always be snug and the uplula will make it seem easy. Best gun accessory I ever bought!

I carried it a lot with Cor-Bon 135gr+p (not available anymore) I shot many many handloaded 155gr cast SWC & plated flat point. I always liked lighter bullets, nothing more than 165gr. I don't think I ever shot 180's in it. The lighter bullets seem to minimize the snappy nature of full power loads, but muzzle blast can be a bit greater.
-
Maybe a handful and as far as I recall they were all handload related. I have repacked the recoil spring and hammer spring twice but that's it.

I have ano early P229 it had been a great weapon. 10-12000 rounds and still shoots fantastic. Enjoy! By the way the trigger just gets better with time!

Frog Lube is the same as coconut oil

You You either know an old time machinist, or spend time working around them. This sounds like some stuff I learned from a machinist that used to rent me time in his shop. I'd forgotten about those concoctions until now. He used to wet polish bearing journals with 90% kerosene, 10% hydraulic oil. The surface finish was very impressive. HE also had a light grease that was STP, Neversieze, and some other secret ingredients. It simply wouldn't wipe off. God forbid if you got it on your face! -
Do we need another law? I would think endangering the welfare of a child and many other laws would apply already. To me this is more about publicly saying "see we're doing something" Parents should be held responsible for their actions if they allow unsupervised access to firearms, but as far as I know they already can be held responsible in my ways using many existing laws. I just don't know that we need a new law to muddy the water with more interpretations...

Done I'm shooting on squad 3 in CCP See you there.

Will do! What day is ORSA IDPA?

I have TFO on a Sig P220 and after about 1500rnds no issues at all. The TFX Pro has a large Orange dot surrounding the tritium/fiber-optic insert. Looks a lot like the Trijicon HD. I am considering them for another gun as I like that BIG front dot. I will probably do so in the not too distant future. Go for it!

I agree with the others, and will add that the Mag is not intended to support weight from the base pad. I remember some time back there were base pads that acted as a light mount. Kind of a cool idea until it fails and you find yourself holding a single shot weapon. In this case if that happened you would loose both mags. If you had to clear a double feed the tethered mags would require you to strip both mags but keep track of them somehow so you can get your gun back in the fight.. Interesting idea and worth discussing as we all learn something from it, but not for me.

Thanks, I'll give it a try, and ORSA too. I'll probably see you there in April. I'm happy to hear what others have to say, but always try to go and experience it for myself... I haven't tried 3 gun, I'm probably the last guy in TN without an AR. LOL!
