Custom Gun Foam - Case Inserts and Drawer Inserts
Sidecarist replied to Bassoneer's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've used these guys to make demo cases for work (non gun related) and they do a nice job on some odly shaped items. -
One star more than me, but then I'm new around here. I never met the man and had very limited interaction with him on TGO. I hope he takes the ban as a life lesson and moves on in a positive way in life. I can say that as a younger man more than once I needed to be reminded about what good behavior was. It seems to have worked out for me in the long run and I'm glad I learned those lessons. May I always have 0 warning points.

Oh I can rant better than that and my wife can tell you all about it! However I've learned that how I rant in public has a big impact on my potential for earning points...

People avoid these topics because they are too sensitive and get hurt feelings, or they have hurt someones feelings and it came back and bit them somehow. Agreeing to disagree is uncommon these days. Open political & religious discourse is what this country was founded on. If I say something its up to you to like it or not, You should be able to say that's not for me etc without me getting upset. The problem comes when these conversations go beyond polite discourse and turn very personal. Both sides can do this and sadly do too often. I know what I believe and I know mostly why I believe it. I will listen to anything others say nicely, and I hope that they will do the same for me. Great progress has been made through this process. Sadly many children never learn this and now spend half their life with hurt feelings. Respect others just as you would want to be respected. We CAN live together peacefully, and learn greatly from each other if we try to. Rant off... 0 warning points so far...

This happens frequently to me and across several brands of powder.

I have an extreme tumblers 17 and its not bad. I can have a conversation next to it without yelling. It has a very thick rubber liner in the drum that helps a lot. I doubt I'll ever use a vibratory cleaner again. Its a bit messy to drain, rinse, and remove the pins, but a rotary separator makes it very easy. I can't see the brass being too clean and getting sticky, but I made a mistake once and used too much lemmi shine, and tumbled for maybe 5-6 hours and the brass was clean, but looked like it might actually have a bit of a patina on it. I wonder if this would cause sticking? It didn't seem to with me, but then again I'm using old CH dies that have loaded 30K + 45 ACP, so everything is worn very smooth.

If it were bad, you wouldn't be able to get your nose over the neck of the can. bad powder smells BAD indeed...

Remington 7400 Magazine Dissassembly
Sidecarist replied to Garufa's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
For these difficult to disassemble mags an ultrasonic cleaner it the best, followed closely with a soak in simple green... -
I never think of the cost of reloading equipment as part of the cost of each round. To me its more of a long term investment. I load for 7-8 calibers now and that list will only grow with time. I have about as much in reloading equip as 2 or 3 quality guns. When I got in I tried to do it on the cheap with low cost equipment. Some I still have and like, some was so frustrating that I moved on to better gear. For a single stage press the best investment I ever made was a Forester Co-Ax. It simply can't be beat unless you are loading 50cal. A good progressive for the pistol stuff, and I'm set. I can load 223 on the Co-Ax now, but may upgrade the progressive to it and never look back. The equipment makes shooting generally cost less, and when its raining and I don;t want to shoot I reload for the next time. It's not all about cost per round. I get satisfaction out of the process as well. When ammo is cheap I buy it and save the brass to reload. Sometimes I sell/trade the brass for stuff I need. This model doesn't work for everyone, but I'm quite happy with it!

I kind of liked the direction it was headed though... Nascar shirts, and Seersucker suits, or was that Sear Sucker?!

I now tumble with Stainless media, but never used to I always used walnut in a rotary, or corn cob in a vibratory. I never had problems with the media getting stuck in cases. This is with DRY media. If you add a cleaning agent to your media let the tumble run for a good while until it is absorbed by all of the media before adding the brass. Walnut and corn cob media won;t clean your primer pockets well anyway so I wouldn't sweat it if the brass inst heavily used. Stainless will clean the primer pockets like new and I now de-prime my brass every other or every third time to clean the pockets good. When time and funds allow get a wet tumbler and SS media. It does a great job and cleans the bras in only 2-3 hours vs. 8+ for walnuts in a rotary. just my 2 cents...

Thinking through reloading .223... how does this sound?
Sidecarist replied to NeveSSL's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
If shooting something other than a bolt gun you will need to full length resize. An AR doesn't have the ability to cam the bolt closed reliably on neck sized cases. Crimping or not is based on your experience wait and see how it goes. -
I haven't found it smokey, but it does smell a bit different. Only noticeable on an indoor range though, and then it's not like it smells bad...

Middle Tennessee Rimfire Match Set at Strategic Edge

I certainly wish I could have attended. Looking at the photos I noticed the left handed Anchutz 20xx. I guess my FWB wouldn't have looked out of place. -
My new custom blade by Gran Torino
Sidecarist replied to East_TN_Patriot's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I to had GT make me a knife along with a sheath and I couldn't be happier with it. -
Currently I'm using titegroup as I have a good supply. I have used accurate #2, accurate nitro 100, winchester 231, bullseye. Of these nitro 100 was my favorite as it was clean burning.

Take a close look at the brass. I just picked up some Remington brass that was impossible to expand. When I looked the brass had some sort of sealant or lacquer inside it. Nothing I had would touch it except acetone. After soaking for a day or two it all came out. This is the only time I've seen this. Very strange... Maybe not your problem but take a look. The inside of the cases was black and shiny almost looked like enamel or glass and very hard.

A Hi Point would be Waaaaaaaaaay better than a Raven! I might say something similar to what Pete123 said, and ad in some info about caliber selection based on FBI stats as well. If money isn't an issue then it sounds like the problem may be that the husband thinks his wife can't handle a 9mm or even a 380. Interestingly I went pistol shopping with a friend a while back and everyone was pushing her to a 380. She had problems cycling the slide on blowback 380's but locked breach 9mm weren't a problem particularly on compact size guns where the slide mass allows for slightly lighter recoil springs. They have come to you as an expert. They should respect your opinion. Discuss the Raven's materials of construction (Zinc Alloy) vs a quality brand handgun. It may take some shopping to find something she likes but I haven't met a woman yet that doesn't like shopping. Most are intimidated by the lingo and testosterone heavy atmosphere of a gun shop. Your training should help with that. Fit is important for good control and there are a lot of good pistols out there for smaller hands now days. My wife uses a S&W M&P Shield 9, and a Sig P320 compact with a small grip module with no problems. My friend went with a Shield 9 as well but came close to buying a Glock 43 and a Sig P225. I'm sure that after she has a chance to shoot she may also make up her mind that the Raven is sub par at best... Good Luck! -
but its a nice nascar shirt... Seriously, I know only a couple of you and that from just one match. At that match I saw everyone act with great camaraderie and no BS. I hope it stays that way it made for a fun day.

If this group was acting as badly as described the police should have responded with enough units to control them and pull them over and cite them appropriately. One officer can not do that particularly on a multi lane highway. I make no excuse for the bikers as while I am a motorcyclist I have respect for others on the road. If they were in the wrong then they need to face the music. Regardless of their behavior if the officer couldn't handle the stress of the situation he should have remained in the car for another 15 seconds until the bikes passed before exiting his vehicle. He chose not to and in fact came out prepared to spray. No excuse for that. If all of this is true then we have a confluence of multiple douchebagery on camera. It would be interesting to see the dash cam/body cam footage as well, but in the end I see no excuse for the officers behavior as the "conflict" was avoidable and as I understand the use of force regs. he was outside the lines there. We don't know the whole story and maybe never will.

[quote name="peejman" post="1367641" timestamp="1458219911"]Odd. Add this to the list of reasons why I wear a full face helmet. Sadly most full face helmets wouldn't prevent you from being effected by the spray, maybe reduce it a but but I still think it would have been difficult to maintain control of a bike in traffic with your eyes closed.

So a couple of bikes get closer than he likes and he decides to pepper spray different people that were riding behind them? That thought process is to try screwed up. I didn't see anything that would justify the use of force. My understanding is that spray is to be used to assist in getting someone to comply with a lawful order (or words like that). What lawful order? What would he have done if they had crashed?
