  1. DaveTN makes some good points. My experience is that mags are the number one problem. However if the gun is new or has reliability problems with more than one mag, more than one brand of ammo abd more than one shooter. You have to look at the gun. Process of elimination... I also agree that modern guns shouldn't need breaking in. I'll dry patch the bore, wipe it down and lube per the manual then run it. I've purchased 4 pistols in the last 6 months as well as brought several out of long term storage. Every one has run great. We had issues with a shield 9. Corrected by improving my wife's grip and follow through. For me the gun has been 100%. If any of them had not run I would have sent it to the manufacturer to correct.
  2. There may be quality problems with some imported ammo, but I've never found white box, PMC, American Eagle, etc. to be "weak". I have seen plenty of gun malfunctions related to poor technique/grip, cheap or damaged magazines, dirty & modified guns. An auto loading pistol is a finely balanced machine. The slide mass, spring force, recoil impulse of the ammo, friction, shooters grip, and more all in balance. Change any one of these and it may not work. Good points have been made by others about bullet selection, standard pressure, +P, +P+. Select the right ammunition for your gun. If you don't know what is "right" seek advice from the manufacturer, gunsmith, etc. Changing springs can help in some cases, BUT be aware that it may take several try to find a workable combination and it may only work with that load or a narrow range of loads. I have several stock guns that are as close to 100% as I can find, I have several slightly ,modified guns that are equally reliable but with a narrower range of ammo. In many 1000's of rounds of discount ammo I've had very few malfunctions related to anything but primers failing to ignitensure for some reason, and those are exceedingly rare. High end self defense ammo has always been 100% if the gun would feed it in the first place.
  3. +1 to hipower. The muffs in HD, or hardware stores are the same as in gun shops but usually a few bucks less. Congrats on sticking through with the process. Enjoy!
  4. I was given a TRS-25 last week, white label, LED is at 4-o'clock ish. It works fine no problems with the dot disappearing or being dim. Zeroed it with only 3 click up & 1 click right. I'm happy so far too early to tell on durability. I asked and it came from amazon. I wonder if there are problems with grey market or counterfeit versions....
  5. Randy, Thanks, there is so much we can learn from these events. Your insight is appreciated. So, Keep your pistol holstered until you need it. Pistols suck at stopping a fight, but particularly a rifle fight. Use the best ammo you can get, it's worth it. Never give up Shoot them in the face if you have the chance, it works. (Practice your marksmanship to make this possible) Learn to shoot with one hand, use cover, and anything else you can to give you a fighting chance (pun intended). If at all possible bring a rifle. Or shoot them in the face with a rifle as soon as possible for the best result.
  6. I'll admit I'm not completely familiar with the shootout in Miami. As I recall: There were problems with the ammunition the FBI was using not being effective as Platt kept fighting. The FBI embarked on the 10mm project, then switched to 40. 9mm performance has largely closed the gap and is now considered effective. They were up against rifles with handguns. This is not ideal to say the least. Tactics, training and equipment were changed so that agents would be better prepared mentally and equipment wise. I believe that I have read that there were significant changes made to vehicle stop procedures and other rules to reduce the possibility of this type of engagement. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
  7.   This is right up there with Whoopie saying if you shot a deer with an AR-15 you'd get nothing but "deer dust"   Ignorance causes loss of OTHER peoples rights, not theirs...   (Full Disclosure I carry a 45acp because I like it not because is some sort of magic bullet.)
  8. By definition you can't trust a liar. Trust and Respect are earned, I taught my boys that and live by it. Attempting to make yourself respectable using lies is despicable on its own, to do it with a lie about "service" in uniform is worse.
  9. I'll never buy anything from him or his compny. I'll also never call him. It's not worth it to give a guy like this any more attention than he already has. The toughest thing you can do to an attention seeker is ignore them. That's just what I'll do.
  10. I've used blue locktite. If you're worried about removal in the future the easy way is to heat the screw with a pencil soldering iron to break the bond. I have also used vibra-tite. It us applied to the screw and allowed to dry. It's kind of rubbery and works great. It is expensive though...
  11. Day 59 file that claim for sure, maybe sooner. Possibly let century know that they have 30 days to make it right or you will file a claim on your CC. That gives them plenty of time to make things right and a deadline to work agsinst. Good luck!
  12. I'm up on the plateau near Dayton and I have them. They aren't much of a problem. The sting feels like a bee sting, not too bad. (Careful when moving rocks...) They hunt other insects. If you keep the bugs out of the house they don't come around. I've seen two types the pale yellowish ones, and some darker brown ones with a band of darker brown.
  13. This is an extremely good idea. I have a 35hp Kubota with a loader and I wouldn't think of trying to clear land with it. It's not that big a machine but still weighs 6000lb w loaded tires. Any rubber tired machine that you can afford will struggle with that type of work. Are any of the trees worth selling? Clear it with a tracked machine beg borrow barter whatever you can. Then build your fences, maintain etc with a tractor.
  14. Welcome. Check out the whiskey and spirits thread...
  15. I wonder if anyone explained to her that those cadets are training to stand at the front of the line to protect her way of life and right to be blissfully ignorant, say what she wants how she wants, etc. etc. With a little luck she will be prosecuted for abuse of the 911 system if she keeps it up. Maybe her sentence could be to participate in drill and buy the cadets lunch for a month. It would be a small price to pay for a big lesson!
  16. Me three on wishing I was going to be there. I've looked at Reid classes and I would be willing to go. I'm going to have to wait a bit bug I plan on going. I look forward to hearing about it.
  17. Are you sure that the gun hasn't been dropped, or leaned on, etc.? A gunsmith familiar with shotguns should be able to detect a bent barrel easily enough as a well as eliminate other mechanical causes. If it all checks out then it is likely how you are mounting the gun. Have you changed your hunting clothing, eye glasses, or anything else that could cause a change in your shooting? Having someone else that you know shoots well with their own shotgun pattern yours is a very good idea.
  18. Surface prep before finishing has a lot to do with how it looks when done. Even parts finished identically in the same plant can vary. How worn out the blast media, or tumbling media has a huge effect. How long the anodizing chemicals are run, when additives are used to replenish them. It's a total bear to get this stuff to match well in one factory, let alone get multiple factories to match. ceracote, duracote and PVD have the best consistancy. I like the PVD on my SIG more than I thought I would.
  19. That sucks! I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't mostly because when I did something similar I thought about it, counted my fingers and decided it wasn't worth the risk. I still have all 10 digits. The time lost is a distant memory and now thanks to you I have been reminded about vigilance when reloading. Thanks for the reminder. Now pull them save the powder, wet tumble them, and start over!
  20. There are a lot of use of force regs. That LEO'S have to comply with. I'm sure there will be some public outcome to this. None of this was good. Everyone showed poor judgment. I don't ride like that, and think I'd have had the patients to wait a minute for the bikes to pass if I was a LEO. In the end we still don't know all of the story. Time will tell how this comes out...
  21. An interesting statistic is arrests for illegal possession by county vs. % of residents with HCP. Another telling statistic is % of HCP holders arrested for violent crime. In NY the number was ridiculously low. Much less than 1 per thousand.
