  1. He could see if there are any ARA or ABRA matches in the area, or if he can travel some to these matches. The "youth" shooters shoot for free ar ORSA ARA/ABRA matches, and some of the regular shooters might just "loan" him a rifle as the regulars usually bring more than one rifle. He needs to attend one or more matches as a spectator, and ask questions, talk to the shooters and match director. Getting young shooters involved in the sport is a good thing, and long timers usually recognize this and will help someone who is interested.
  2. Might find a tire dealer that advertises on CL, there's one that did/does in the E TN area that had several different sizes. Prices, well I wasn't in the market so can't comment on good deal or not.
  3. Wife has not brought up anything (yet), but it's possible we'll get the grandson, then again, we may not. If weather permits, I'll cook something out.
  4. I've not bought any Magellan line clothes, but good to know.
  5. Most have red bases with yellow flower petals and clear upper fluid container/reservoir, but you can find 'em in all different shapes & sizes. We've had good luck with the wally world versions for <$5 each. You can spend upwards of $20 per feeder if you want, but our dysfunctional group of hummers like the wally worlds just fine. They still fight to protect "their" food source from the others.
  6. We have 3 feeders out with one dysfunctional family of about 5 or 6, not sure as it's almost impossible to count 'em since they fly so damn fast. LOL. Ours like to "claim" a feeder and then spend most of the day defending it by chasing the others away. Each feeder has the standard 4 holes but seldom will more than one be feeding as the others are always chased off. Entertaining to watch for sure. Unfortnately I found a dead one in the garage over the weekend as it got trapped inside it with the doors closed. Wife has a FT job keeping the feeders filled. LOL
  7. AS is a decent store, my closest store doesn't have a good selection of re-loading supplies, just the basics but that is better than nothing. The new owner of GM/GO may not want Trump supporters in his stores and that is his reasoning for not re-opening a lot of stores. LOL
  8. Well, the GM in Knoxville was always overpriced IMO, so not a great loss that it won't re-open, but competition is always a good thing for the consumers.
  9. Very nice looking guns. Enjoy.
  10. I think it will be $.25-50/gal increase IF (and a BIG one) the refineries are not off line for long or incur a lot of damage. update 8/29/17 Now I'm thinking it will be pushing $4.00/gal due to the extensive flooding. Not good for us, but it's been an absolute nightmare for those in TX.
  11. I've been wondering about the forecast as well as the Knoxville stations are NOT saying anything about "perfect viewing weather is expected", yada yada yada like they normally do. They are starting to say "hope we can get this wet weather out of here by then" LOL. Lots of people who have traveled far may be disappointed
  12. Ok, we'll bear with you. Just being a smart butt, sorry. Conversions sound easy, but are not. GL.
  13. Channel 8 in Knoxville said that Tellico Plains TN is "expecting" 30,000 visitors for this event, only 800 live there. Police force consists of 2 officers on day shift and one on night shift. I foresee some issues. Sweetwater is expecting/anticipating more than that. Should be a fun/good day to stay home.
  14. I'm live in a prime time viewing area as well, the Knoxville TV stations have some story about it on a daily basis. Local communities are milking it for all it's worth, even saying they should bring "cash" in case something goes haywire with the CC terminals. LOL. Be prepared is their motto. The RV sites are full of "whose camping where " and "all the campgrounds are full" threads. LOL I will probably go out in the back yard, and watch it. They are not mentioning the weather forecast much, if any. Have a feeling it will be overcast & raining.
  15. Looks like you have been busy, hope you enjoy it for many years.
  16. I've got all of the guns I've bought myself, S&W 686 (?) 4" barrel (FBI model I believe), Ruger MkII bull barrel 22lr, 2 Anschutz 22lr rifles they made for about 3 yrs each (Kadett & youth model), all of these were purchased in the mid 80's before life got in the way and they stayed in the closet for close to 30 yrs. Also have a R700 varmint rig in 223 from the mid 90's, and then 3 "recent" purchases in the past 2 yrs, two 223's and a 204R rifles. I prefer long guns to short ones myself. I even have my dad's H&R single shot 20 ga from the late 60's/early 70's. I'll probably give all of these to the GS if he has any interest in this hobby.
  17. Upgrades are the norm, good bad or indifferent, upgrade on.
  18. It's not uncommon for the premiums to go up every renewal, that's why I try for annual premiums/renewals as it give them fewer opportunities to raise premiums. I shop around on a periodic basis, but most of the time I would only save $25-50 bucks over a yr, and sometimes you could end up with less coverage by switching companies because each companies policy and coverages vary slightly or a lot.
  19. Sounds like if you get the 2nd notice then you gotta pay or face additional expenses. Correct ??
  20. I got a ticket in Orlando FL for about 5-6mph over the limit around Mickey Mouse house. I was rolling with the flow of traffic but I had out of state tags. I asked the FHP why me when I was rolling with the flow of traffic, he said the out of state tags, won't contest it. Little did he know that I had "just" moved down to Orlando, so I took the time to contest it. I won, FHP guy was ticked when I told the judge what he said.
  21. I got a "photo" ticket in Knoxville a couple yrs ago for a rolling stop, was $50 I think if I didn't contest it. I hate those letters. LOL
  22. I wore toric hard lenses for 25+ years, loved them as I could wear them for 12-18 hrs/day, from the time I got up till I went to bed. I got them when I was 18-20 y/o, and wore them until I was 45-50. My prescription never changed, just new contacts when needed. I quit wearing contacts due to the ageing process, still wear glasses. I don't really miss them now as glasses are easier on a daily basis for the most part IMO. I did have to start wearing "cheaters" while still wearing the contacts to read all the paperwork I had to deal with. Never tried the soft ones due to my severe astigmatism, eye doctor said they looked like a "football" with a bad seam. LOL
  23. I made one for ARA practice similar to Ugly's, but I used PVC pipe for the uprights, and some wood 1x3 or 4's for crossties (bolted on) to hold the target/backer board. I glued the legs (bases) together but the uprights come apart from the bases with a twist. All of it fits in my Sport Trac bed with all the other "stuff" I feel I need for this past time. Chances of hitting the legs is slim in this style of shooting, but I've seen it happen when someone was trying to zero a scope.
  24. I would try mowing at a higher height on the 1st cut over the entire yard, then start over at a lower height (~1/2" difference). By the time you finish the 1st time, the area of the yard you mowed 1st should be dry enough to mow a bit lower. Gas is alot cheaper than a heat stroke, etc. I usually mow my front yard 2x's, I mow it first, then the rest of the yard. This allows the front grass to dry out any more (~1 hr or so) if needed, allows the shorter grass to "spring" back up straighter/taller due to it being taller (heavier) causing it to lay over, before being cut the 1st time. On the second cut, I mow in a different direction but at the same height (I have a commercial grade ZTR) so it's alot easier to change directions, etc.
