First wife had a late 70's Toyota Corona/Corolla, with AT, sucked big time. Turning around 3K rpm's on the interstate did NOT make it an econo car by any definition, and the hum from that 4cyl engine was bad as well. I would take my Vega over that POS any day of the week. The Vega was part of my growing up, and as I age, I would love to go back to that time, BUT retain the knowledge I have earned/learned from the school of hard knocks. LOL

My brother got on a '72 for his 18th bday, he did not take care of it, blew a cyclinder and put steel liners in. He kept it thru college then got rid of it. I also got one ('73) for my 18th BD, and was able to order it like I wanted since I knew I was getting a car for my 18th BD. I had to pay the difference between the base model and the GT level, which included a a 2 barrel carb, a big wide racing stripe down the center of the card, sport wheels and short throw 4 spd. I was "hot stuff". LOL Mine was Medium Bronze Metallic, white stipe, beige interior. Drove it all thru college and several years afterwards for my first job. NO AC, and had a tenacity to overheat, so I put an oversized radiator in it from a Vega with AC, and then had a bit of a problem with it running warm enough to get heat during the winter. A piece of cardboard behind the grill solved that for me. LOL Some moroon tried to turn left in front me and totalled the car in '79 IIRC. Loved that car, and still wish I had it. Don't see 'em on the roads anymore, just a few on the drag strips in pics. You could order a panel wagon with a 350 & 4 spd IIRC, some guy had one in my town, it would haul azz for sure. I had mine up to 110mph on the interstate one day, front end got so light I lost steering control and let off the gas. Front end came back down and I never did that again. LOL I've got one picture of mine sitting in the yard, and would love to have it back. LOL.

I've got a pair of the "Muck" brand boots, pretty comfy but heavy. I wear 'em during winter fishing, not hunting. Recently got a pair of similar boots from Academy Sports for $60 or so, much lighter, thinner soles, just as comfy when walking. Not worn the new ones fishing yet just around the house due to all this wet weather we have now.

Who Here Has A Generator, And It Saved Them ?
jpx2rk replied to billt's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I got one when we lived in the FL panhandle after Opal wandered thru. I start it up 1-2x a year but sits in the shed the rest of the time House is not wired for this, but I can run a extension cord thru a window, etc., to run a few things like the fridge and coffee pot, I just run all of the gas back out of it so the carb is empty & dry along with some stabil. I'm surprised each time I start it at how easy it does start. -
I've removed live primers from brass that had NO crimps on the pocket (22-250), just go slow and steady, wear PPE. I saved those primers as I didn't know whether they were 200 or 250, and the seller could not remember either. I needed to re-size the brass anyways as it had been neck sized for sellers rifle, not mine so. I did not set any off but was glad when I had 'em all done. I've used these primers for fouler rounds, everyone has gone bang , seat with normal pressure, etc. Just go slow and carefully.

There's a saying for weather here in TN, "if you don't like the weather now, just wait 5 minutes and it will change." Good luck to you folks in the path of the storm(s). Watching the weather channel now, and they are calling the 2 or 3 storms moving across the nation "Historic Winter Invasion", the WC has turned into a drama queen for ratings. LOL.

And for my area (between Knoxville & Chattanooga), forecasting a small chance for a light dusting. LOL Be careful in Music city.

Very nice work as usual.

Prayers for your family during these difficult times.

Well said Hozzie. If doing just a barrel swap, consider Feddersen barrels. Brimstone reworks trigger groups for $50 or so, stock selection is good.

That's why my wife says I need adult supervision all the time.

U-Haul says TN saw the most one way rentals in 2020

GL on your decision to build. Keep us informed on how smoothly that goes. Been there, done that, not gonna do it again. Wife and daughter (who lives in Knoxville) want "us" to move to Knoxville, I'm not the least bit interested in that idea. Told 'em I would go on a 2 week trip somewhere while "they" moved everything, ain't moved yet. -
Hope you get the shots in a timely manner What is the pill you referred to????

Another Vols Football Coach Bites the Dust . . .
jpx2rk replied to Luckyforward's topic in General Chat
Fisher at a .500 level is better than UT has had in recent times, but could he do well at the college level. Freeze has recruitment issues hanging over him per news reports, so UT needs to be smarter than that. The one unemployed coach I've seen mentioned is Tom Herman from TX, who had a winning record there, he just wasn't winning the SWC and so the school let him go. Pruitt will naturally sue to keep his contract in force, $12 million is a lot to walk away from. -
I've had mixed results with USPS, lately it's not all that good as I mailed a check to a guy in NE for some bullets I agreed to buy. He rec'd the check in about 4 days, and he was trusting enough to mail the bullets the SAME day I mailed my check. It took about 13 days for USPS 2nd day priority mail to deliver the small priority mail box . The tracking # showed progress from NE to ATL processing center, and then it went "dark", didn't move for several days, then showed out for delivery for several days. It finally showed up undamaged, shipping label, etc., was in good shape, all addresses where clearly printed, so no sloppy handwriting to blame. USPS could be short handed and/or over whelmed with season volume, but no reason to pay for 2 day priority mail and it take almost 2 weeks for delivery. Not many "businesses" would survive with that level of service. LOL

I used an index card, hopefully some will remember what those are. LOL

Maybe some liquid wrench penatrating solvent or kroil would help loosen up some of the grime and crud. GL with the project.

If you have any of the Ryobi 18v tools, they have a inflator that works decent, I got it to carry in the TT to use as needed. It is a bit slow, but it gets the job done. The plug kits work pretty good as well. GL.

I saw a news clip where the FDA (IIRC) was fining some or all of the distillers who made hand sanitizer during the great shortage of 2020 for some dumb gooberment policy

Who makes a good, budget-priced spotting scope?
jpx2rk replied to Darrell's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have the same one as ken_mays linked to, it's good for 200yds if the lighting conditions are good, mirage is not bad, etc. The splatter type targets that change to ugly green are easier to see, but I use a white background with orange/red diamond are visible as well to me and I've got crappy eyes with several different things going inside them. -
I like the way you look at knife making as a hobby, do it when you feel like "doing it" and don't when you don't feel like doing it. That's what makes the tasks of knife making a hobby, not a job. Enjoy your hobby as much as you can, or want to. I like your knives, and have bought 4, with 2 being gifts . I've been told the knives won't be used because they are "too nice" to use. I feel like I gave a good gift, but still hope they will be used so I can get a report on them.

We've got over an inch south of Lenior City, using the reliable index finger as a ruler. Don't plan on going anywhere in the car. Saw a snow plow last night on one of the county roads last night, and a vehicle on the same road just a few minutes ago moving along w/o trouble, so maybe the roads are in decent shape for those that get out today going to grandma's house. Merry Christmas to everyone, stay safe and be well.

The old addage about TN fans will go to any bowl game the Vols qualify for. Why do you think UT was invited to the Citrus Bowl, or any bowl game in FL with a .500 season, or worse for so many years. UT fans will travel to FL in Jan for a bowl game, don't matter the record, etc., going to FL is the main purpose.

I don't think China would engage the US in a war with guns as the cost in human life would be too great for both sides. They will try and conquer the US thru economic and technological means, which the maroons in DC have turned a blind eye to. Businesses want to do business with China because they will make money, but they will lose their soles and technology to China.
