That will be my next knife purchase. I really like Benchmade knives. I own several. All are axis lock knives, which is all I would consider, before. The mini Barrage is assist opening, and really fast. The Adamus auto is a little slow opening, but it is a big knife and could get away if it opened quickly. The Griptillian stays readily available in the truck. I have no problem with the grip of the handle. Other are stashed in tool boxes or drawers. Kind of like flashlights … never have too many. Like Potterfield says about guns when asked about how many are needed; just one more. A video of the Casbah shows it to be very fast deploying, and a great size. l haven't any experience with the button lock feature, but I trust Benchmade without reservation. Your only concern will be that they must be sent back through a dealer (for any service,) unless you are LEO or EMT. Benchmade strictly goes by federal regs on this. Benchmade seems to balance their knives well. I have a few knives by SpiderCo (sp), Buck, Puma. Benchmade is my favorite and I go with black blade that is partially serrated. The serrations are often useful. I am pretty sure the Casbah will become one of your favorite knives.

I wish I had attended a motorcycle show (like Biketoberfest,) and ridden a bunch of different bikes, before buying my 96c.i. Dyna. But, I'm happy enough with it. The stock bike has the same power to weight ratio as the stock HD 1200 custom, but it can accommodate much more power in mods. And, it is better on the superslab (I had a 1200c for a few years.) Wish I could afford a sport touring, a Buell, Hyabusa, Versys and every other bike that I have tried and seen videos of. Most of the comfort will come from suspension and seating. You may get a really good deal on an old Victory. Parts will be around for another 8 years. The bike is a little longer than the HD Dyna, which makes it even better on the open road, if a little more difficult in parking lots. Good luck, and Happy Trails.

I'm signed up. Starting a little later in the morning, for future matches, would be nice for me.

Maybe worthless, but my new V-BOB came with a sample of TW25b with recommendations to use (lightly) on the rails. Now, it is certainly marketing, but a high end production 1911 manufacturer is endorsing the product. At the very least, I would think you could rest easily that it won't hurt anything (used as directed.)

which do you think is better

Both are great. Klarus has a sterling reputation on flashlight forums. -
Soooooo? What's the answer?

S&W details that feature as "ported lighting cuts." Are you thinking about compensators? Any input on recoil? Thanks

Anyone have experience with the S&W Scandium Frame 45 acp with Ported Lighting Cuts? The model # is 170344. I am specifically interested in whether the recoil of the light frame is countered effectively by the lighter slide (due to the porting cuts.) Thanks for your assistance.

Free weekly Law of Self Defense
walthermitty replied to chances R's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Thanks for posting this. I've been watching the long versions (live show,) and I will get the short version from now on. This case was an important lesson. The guy's leaving the scene and posting that crap is probably what doomed him. But, one never knows what will drive prosecutors, police, judges, jurors, etc. Seems to be alien to anything that would happen to me, but I have witnessed road rage a couple of times recently. I'm glad I got the DVDs, and insurance. It would be great to have a TN prosecutor doing 5 min recaps of TN cases, but I'm guessing they wouldn't do it for fear of divulging info that might be misused. -
ISO SD9VE Parts & Knoxville Machine Shop
walthermitty replied to MRSpivey's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have a great shooting, 500 round SD9VE that I'll sell for $200, but that may be more than you want to put into it. It has Talon Grips, extended take down lever, an extra (ss 20lb) recoil spring and 2 mags. You may be able to sell those to recover some money. Message me if you're interested. -
I have been looking for a P01 Omega. I like the 1911 trigger, and I want an all metal gun. The P01 Omega is the only non 1911 alternative that I have thought about. I saw a new Performance Center SW 3" 1911 advertised, that looks interesting.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

I really, really like the EDC X9, but can't afford anywhere near the price. Do you know of anything that would get close, and be affordable? STI maybe?

I have a ThruNight 1000 lumen light that meets all the same drop (I've tested that) and water resistance as SureFire. It's been a great light for 4 yr at a cost of $69 (4 yr ago.) Also, it is neutral color which I like much better than the cool white that most LEDs have.

Good info. I like this particular way to respond to cops on scene. It is also represented in "The Law of Self Defense." There are, across several different authors, some differing opinions on what to say. There is also, what to say to the 911 operator. I even made myself a credit card size, laminated assist card. Some authorities may use that against you, but it can be defended.

I just viewed the 1st aid classes on Personal Defense Network. Good for someone like me with no experience. Jan 8 & 9 Nashville Armory will have a 3 hr gunshot 1st aid class. And, On Target has had a 4 hr class that I want to attend ($150,) but they don't have any currently scheduled. This is definitely a worthwhile thread that I will continue to follow.

Finding a light bearing holster is a b!^@($. You almost have to go to the holster mfr, and see what weapon/light combinations they use, before buying a light. The TLR1 and Surefire X300 seem to be more common than others. I have a TLR 2G laser/light, and still haven't found an option. Go to the MFR sites and use the holster finder function. Dara holsters has some listed. Bravo Concealment has a couple. The other recommendations were good, too, Comp Tac, Safariland.

Legal Defense Providers (sort of new topic).

I think USCCA covers civil damages up to limits of coverage. 10% is the "usual" fee; my point was that none of them cover more than that. Information from Branca's book informs that in rare cases the bond may not be enough. And, anything more than 10% of the bond would not be covered by any of the plans. -
"Straight Talk on Armed Defense," edited by Massad Ayoob. Most, on this forum, understand the principles. But, I learned that using targets that look like humans actually helps overcome the reluctance to shoot someone (when required and under stress.) I liked most of the book, but was helped most by memory and decision making under stress. "The Law of Self Defense" Andrew Branca

Just found a comparison. There is no date on this, but some of the info about USCCA seems wrong; maybe it has evolved. The biggest difference I see for myself is that CCW Safe seems better right after the incident. USCCA seems to cover "accidental" discharge (at least we will not say negligent discharge until proven negligent.) I didn't see where CCW Safe would cover that. And, you may chose a level of civil damages insurance with USCCA. Blast, it looks like one needs both! Or, just be vewy, vewy careful. CCW Safe vs USCCA2 - Illinois Carry -

CCW SAFE, I just read covers the cost of civil litigation, not damages from criminal or civil trial. And, CCW Safe only pays 10% of the bond, not any collateral, if required. Haven't gotten that far with USCCA, to see if they are better. And, CCW Safe only pays 10% of the bond, not any collateral, if required. Still CCW Safe stacks up pretty dog gone good. -

I don't see the answer in my searches, about his personal trial experience. But, it doesn't matter to me whether he was "attorney of record" on any case. Heck, I sold pharmaceuticals, and I wasn't a doctor or a chemist .... I just learned from doctors and chemists. I sold group medical insurance, but I wasn't an underwriter. So, I don't understand your question. What matters is that a whole lot of attorneys of record turn to him for guidance. His overwhelming positive reviews are enough for me. For you ..... Branca says that you don't have to listen to him. He, in fact, endorses Massad Ayoob and others. And, he is not my only reference. So, go out into the world, and find the answers that are right for you. I'm only providing an opinion. Seriously, are you just curious, or is there some other point to your question? -

Are you trying to say that he must have tried every one of the cases to know about the details? That doesn't sound logical. Research Andrew Branca. He is a consultant attorney that has spent his professional life on this stuff. He is referred to by USCCA, a lot of gun talk programs, etc. He gave a live Level 1 & 2 class at the Nashville Armory, which is how I heard of him. For pete's sake, don't just try to disparage something, without doing at least a google. -
Permit Class This Week for Active Military - La Vergne?
walthermitty replied to JPS's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Not sure on a cheap class, but tell him to sure to ask for the military/veteran discount when he applies for the permit (if TN.) No one said anything to me, and I didn't find out til the money was out the door. -

Two things: 1) I haven't had to use it, but I have NRA Carry Guard (currently.) I will change to USCCA because I found out that Carry Guard only advances a small amount toward your defense. They don't pay, if you are not acquitted, so no shot at accepting a lesser charge (see #2.) Carry Guard, and others don't pay for non-lethal defense like pepper spray, which is a good idea to have (see #2,) or taser. You can rely on USCCA, or Carry Guard or other insurer for a lawyer referral, but I think USCCA is better than Carry Guard in this, too. 2) I am really happy to have bought "The Law of Self Defense" 3rd Edition. It's only $9.99 on Kindle. I also bought the DVDs. The author does a great job of explaining the 5 elements of a self defense case. He also does a great job of what to say to which parties. You would say only so much to 911, only exculpatory things on scene and almost nothing to detectives (without an attorney,) and why. The 3rd Edition book lists case and jury instructions for each state. And, a level 2 dvd can be purchased for each state. Branca lists some and talks about other cases where the prosecution, judge or other was just out to get someone. He talks about the fact that everything can go right, and you may still be convicted (it has happened.) I have become much more aware of the need to make sure I am prepared in every way .... from attending IDPA matches to staying up to date with legal cases thru Branca's web presence. Do yourself a huge favor, and research "The Law of Self Defense."
