You've got some great minds to plug into here. If I'm not mistaken, Luckygunner or some such place did a test with various thickness drywall and manufacturers rounds? Bet some google-fu can find it. That being said, I'd look at a different platform, like a shotgun, for close home defense. Rifle rounds move at 2000+ fps and are only 1 projectile. Target loads in a 20 ga. have scores of projectiles, and won't go into the next room.

I've had mixed luck with the cheap FA scale... same shell will read +/- 0.4 grains. Pick it up, put it back down, different number every time.... I stop, tare the thing, calibrate, start that one over, and it works for a spell... For my purposes its fine, plinking pistol ammo doesn't care if you're hot by 10%, but you sure can feel it. I run about 4.4-4.5 grains titegroup for my 124gr 9mm loads. You know when you got 5 grains of powder.

If anyone was ready, willing, and able to drop off the radar.... Hell of a gentleman. I enjoyed every visit I had with him.

Squirrel Hunting with a .410 in Middle Tennessee!
ReeferMac replied to Sidewinder's topic in Hunting and Fishing
My Son and FIL went into the woods with the exact same setup (tho my dogs no squirrel hound). They did get a couple, but didn't care for the taste, and haven't been back out since (you kill it, you eat it). I'll have to see what his loads were, likely brass game shells. -
Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books
ReeferMac replied to plank white's topic in Survival and Preparedness
... need to start our own lending library among members! Heck, cost of shipping USPS isn't too terrible much. -
Thats great. Looks like some nice extracting equipment. I lost my hives this Spring, took the year off. Want to try to setup a swarm trap or two, but never seem to find the time, stuff keeps getting in the way.

Yeah, ditto what @Sunfish said. While I trust me, I don't know if I would risk damaging my gun by shooting an unknown reload. While possible to get a double charge or something in commercial ammo, roll-your-own does come with some risks. That being said, I received and shot some reloads from a TGO'er recently without issue! Simply can't find the commercial stuff, and it was a new (to me) item I've been dying to try. K-frames are pretty tough! I do not believe there are any legal issues with private party sales in TN, and several members buy and sell ammo on the classifieds here all the time. If priced well, I'm sure it will be snatched up quickly and gratefully by fellow TGO'ers.

Looks good Jamie! Had a bear of a time getting anything leafy to sprout (spinach or lettuce). Even the fresh seeds I bought this year wouldn't pop until a few weeks ago. Looking at trying to freeze/can some beans this weekend. I've got a TON planted, and its starting to come in! I picked the blossoms off my taters and hilled them up higher a couple weeks ago. Hoping for a big haul of Kennebec and Pontiac Reds this year. I ran out of the fingerlings I had been growing the last couple years (seed stock rotted), but some volunteers showed up in the upper garden, I'm hoping I can re-start in the fall from those. I purchased some seed potatoes from a place in Maine late last year. Looked gorgeous, very well cared for, albeit pricey... planted them, they took off, grew great big plants, flowered, died back, dug them up... bupkus. Not a single tater harvested. First time I've ever been blanked 100%. This year I have some volunteers in the pasture garden approx where the fancy ones were planted last year.... here's hoping! Get a return on my 45 bucks after 18 months maybe, LOL!

Yeah, ditto. Helped me get my head around it a lot. Grab a cup of coffee this weekend and lose part of the day watching that vid and some of the other ones in there.

The beans are coming in!! Squash are all small and green, but growing. Taters looking fantastic. Whats cooking with you guys?

They were excellent last time I attended one.

I introduced my mail carrier, UPS and FedEx driver to my Malinois. Nobody else gets out of the truck. They leave packages in the mailbox. I would put a drop box (old newspaper route box) at the driveway entrance and strongly discourage visitors with signs and barbed wire. Funny PS: My teenage daughter was being courted by a young man in HS. He came to pick her up.... and had to call from the driveway because he was afraid to get out of the car. Good Boy!!!!

Haha, true, had noticed as well. One reason I decided to pay the asking price for the 686 I bought. I figured it was a safe medium to stash those greenbacks in while the value of the USD hits terminal velocity. I could sell it today for what I paid.

WTF do you shoot with THAT?!??!! Is that a 'Punt gun'? Early type shotgun used for waterfowl?

Try staggering your flock. Their egg production blooms early in life at about 6-12 months, then fades to about 3 years of age, where it pretty much stops altogether. What you do with them when they stop laying is up to you, average lifespan is 5 years. My wife has insisted we'll run a retirement community if need be. We're "at that point" with 4 of the 7 we have, maybe 1 egg/week/bird. The other 3 are younger, and still producing well. My wife has 11(!!!) more coming up, they'll be laying by the end of summer. Not a smart system. ... if ones goal is to have say 16 chickens producing eggs, it would be best to add ~4-5 per year, vs throwing a dozen into the coop one year and waiting until they die off or get eaten. That way you will have a steadier supply vs. Boom/Bust cycles as the birds age. We also seem to lose at least 1-2 birds per year to predation, etc. That mostly happens when free ranging, but once something (racoon) reached through the fence and got a couple while sleeping.

We get 2-3 of them a year out in or near the coop. Every single time the egg production drops suddenly, she asks "you think its their food?"

I recently acquired a S&W 686 revolver in .357. I understand (and have tried thanks to @Darrell) it shoots .38 special loads as well. Can I shoot .357 Sig? I hope to eventually handload once I can get dies and powders again (at reasonable prices), does anyone use Titegroup (what I use for my 9mm loads)? Recommend a particular bullet? I use Berrys copper plated now. What about commercial self-defensecammo? Gold dots and HST? Any tips and or tricks? Its my first revolver! Love it so far. The SA trigger is so crisp and light. Thanks. - K

Are you looking for a magnified scope or quick-reaction optic like a red-dot? I have a ~$300 Nikon and cheap red-dot mounted on top. Works just dandy for my purposes.

I told that varmint to stay out of my berry patch....

That sounds horrific... What about using a super-soaker or alternative to a sprayer?

I've had best luck controlling unwanted lawn weeds using slow release granuals from various big pharma companies. Sprinkle that junk on every 3 months, and spot-treat troublesome areas with spray application. There was some liquid concentrate (think it was blue colored?) I got at the local co-op that did a good job after a few weekly applications. Took more than one hit to kill, though. Then the bare spots took forever to take grass.... now I figure clover ain't so bad.

Its telling, isn't it @Omega? Most people fail to recognize they live in an echo chamber, which is all media is these days. 'Comment sections' are a far better guage of the pulse of the people. Funny that you have to go to a Russian news site to see/hear people expressing their viewpoints unrestricted.

What a Beauty!!!! I meant the rifle.. is that a G3 with folding stock? No select fire? She looks a bit tired and cold, but could probably still whoop my keister!
