I have the Nikon P308 4-12x on my AR w/ 24" barrel. Works for me. I can see the holes at 100 yds, not quite at 200 though, so if you're wanting to shoot further, you'll need a spotting scope. - K

Dolo's a great teacher. Seeing it done a few times was invaluable vs. trying to make sense of it on my own. And welcome! - Kevin

Rifle Ranges in the K-Town and Maryville area
ReeferMac replied to trentatron's topic in General Chat
I've got about 50-60 yds of straight-away on my land I've been using, but I'm not much closer than Oakridge (and not nearly as nice... that being said, I don't have any of the restrictions being on private property, either!) - K -
Knoxville area members please check in

Anyone here need some firewood? Screaming deal for TGO'ers. I'm west of Knox, near I-40/I-75 split. Might need to split some of it, but most pieces will burn as-is. Already cut and dried. - K -
I can attest... Have been digging holes for some apple tree's, get about 2 feet down... clay there is dry as a bone. Topsoil on top just crumbles to dust! Scary dry... - K

Watched it today while laid up w/ a bad back. Good flick! Thanks for sharing the recommendation. (How sad is it that an independent studio like Netflix makes a better movie than the bazillion-dollar powerhouses?) - K

LOL! Classic, thanks for the laugh. Saw one once while fishing by canoe on a lake in the Adirondacks. Big sum'bitches... - K

$300 for a new pressure tank from Lowe's, $1250 for the guy (crane truck, 3 new sections of pipe, new pump, hook it all up), and the horses have water again! Money well spent (new pump and pipe should last me a while), but all the same, there's soooo many other things I'd have rather used that money for, LOL! Thanks everyone. - K

Thanks Red, I didn't think it was too bad - IME, if you show up on a job site w/ a specialized vehicle/equipment, you start at least at $500/day. The guy said the steel pipe comes in 21' sections, and the concern w/ hand-pulling is that it can break at the threads, dropping the pump back down the well (and then you get to re-drill, whee!) Just sucks having to pay the bill, you know what kinda rifle I could get w/ that coin? My gosh, that's thousands of rounds.... - K

Thanks! We've been using the well for a few months now. It was a little murky when we first fired it up (after sitting idle for 10+ years!), but after a few days of intermittent use, the water cleared up and has been OK. Horses and dog have been drinking it for months, we haven't sent it for testing yet so don't drink it ourselves.... Only once after running it outselves for about an hour did it start pulling up dirty water again. - K

Sevierville/Gatlinburg has some nice area's, but finding a secluded one might be tough? We went camping at the park in Big South Fork Recreation area, lots of nice hiking there, and I'd wager you could find a rental nearby (check out town of Rugby). - K

Had some trouble w/ the well out on the property we own. Was throwing the breaker. Got a reference from a local fellow for a repair-man, came out today to check it out. Says either the pump's bad (replace), or wire is shorting out (repair), either way, he needs to bring in a crane-truck to hoist the pump up out of there to see. Well is approx 120-feet deep, galvanized pipe, can't pull it by hand (tried, sucker's pretty heavy). Estimated $1500-2000 total for repair/replacement, as we probably need to replace the bladder-tank, too. I'm a city-boy, water always came from a pipe the city owned... does that estimate sound about right? Any suggestions/additions as I'm going to bite the bullet on Friday and get it fixed? Likely going to re-do the shed-house surrounding pump w/ cinder blocks as it's currently mostly rotten wood. Well-guy said a 100-watt light-bulb left on in a draft-free well house will generate enough heat to keep pipes from freezing down here/ Thanks for the advice! - Kevin

Powder coating the easy way

Welcome Medicaus, you've found one of the nice corners of the internet. Good to have you aboard, mate! - Kevin -
Dude, are you smokin too much? THE POLICE OBSERVED HIM IN VIOLATION OF 2 LAWS!!!! What, do you have to break 3 before they make contact? He was observed in the possession of a controlled substance. He was observed in the possession of a controlled firearm (not a rifle, a pistol). How much does one have to do before YOU think it's reasonable for police to initiate contact? Sheesh! - K

Got mine done at the UPS store in Rockwood. I believe any of the UPS stores will be able to provide the service. Just have to make an appointment. There was an online tool that found the closest store and I was able to make an appointment an hour away.

Ummmmm.... lets just say I TOTALLY AGREE with your sentiment, however I've seen the wife's video, and somewhere's between the 2nd and 9th time the cop said "DROP THE GUN", I would have complied, obviating the need for the officer to discharge his firearm. Just sayin.. - K

This, 1,000 %!!!! It _is_ a way of life, for many. Sum's up the problem entirely. A motivated individual can do almost anything, so we must not be motivating folks. Soup Kitchens should make a comeback! I'd also like to see work-details leaving the welfare office to pickup trash in the street, clean up our cities and towns. You want your check? Report to the foreman at 9 AM, he'll have an orange vest and trash-bag for you. Bring it back full.

Precisely my predicament and what happened when I experienced hard-times myself. I have a B.A. in Graphic Design, and a 20-year career in the printing industry. I work(ed) with hi-tech computerized equipment automating the back-end of things, and now 'my job' pays $12.50/hr (employers are still expecting a degree and experience). I drive a produce truck for a Sysco-subsidiary b/c it pays $400/wk more than I can make w/ my 20-year career in the print-biz. Evolve, adapt, onward... sitting on my duff w/ a 'disability' or on food-stamps was never a permanent option (but I was one of those 99-week's on UI way back when). I worked w/ a paving company that helped me get my CDL, and I've been gainfully employed ever since. Not what I invested 25-years of my life in, but, I pay my bills and take care of my family. Frankly, I haven't made this kind of money in 15-years!

I agree w/ what your saying, but in case you've never seen... they use a special voucher, are only allowed certain products, the clerk hands them a receipt that they place into a plastic pouch to turn in to verify the products purchased were WIC/SNAP approved. They did this 3 times (as each voucher's good for about 25 bucks), and then bought the remaining products w/ a local Credit Union Bank card. - K

I hope I don't offend anyone but I have to rant... Was in line at the Kroger this afternoon and a pair of seriously overweight and heavily tatooed individuals were in front of me w/ their 2 darling kids. I couldn't help but notice all the sugary cereal they were buying w/ food stamps. Being a parent myself I wanted to suggest the "Cheerio's for your 2- and 3-year old might be better choices", I refrained. They bagged up their groceries and then paid for the final 3 items with their Bank-card. A 12-dollar box of Sushi, half-drunk Soda Pop, and a pack of gum. It took every ounce of civility I had not to say something. Folks, I've been there, we've all been down on our luck, but I'll be damned if I'm going to buy your kid's groceries while you take 'your money' and drop it on Pop and Sushi, fer crying out loud..... Send your husband (errrr. baby-daddy?) through the line separate so I don't have to watch you spit in my tax-paying face like that. Gawd! Thanks, I feel better. Rant-off. - Kevin

Good SHTF Survival Fiction Books

I hope you enjoy it. Kunstler has a way w/ language, and the chapters are pretty light. I found it easy to breeze through them looking forward to the next. The Witch of Hebron is kind of a second, takes place w/ the same characters shortly after. - K
