Shifting towards looking at the Crossville/Cookville area
ReeferMac replied to a topic in General Chat
I have well and city water, both are fine. City plumbed to the house. Septic only where I am out in the country, but sewer "in-town" most places. On the West side of Knox Oak Ridge Sportsman Assoc (ORSA) has by far the best range, and they host all kinds of competitions. Up there on the plateau they have clubs, but honestly, I think ORSA is one of the nicest ones in TN, possibly the SouthEast. It would be a hike to commute, but you could train locally and compete there. I'd suggest 10-20 acres a good 15 minutes outside "town". Don't sweat the infrastructure issues, septic systems can always be pumped. -
Yeah, ditto. I downloaded it, fired it up, wanted to own my phone (requested permission/access to... everything, at all times). Nope. Looks like a neat tool and cool idea/application of technology. I'm just horribly jaded and don't trust anybodythingwhere. Theres definitely something there, tho.

New Federal Punch .22LR Defensive Ammo.
ReeferMac replied to Grayfox54's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I agree... and for some folks I think thats important: my wife has trouble shooting 9mm or .38s out of smaller guns b/c her wrists are in bad shape from work. She never carries anymore, has a small knife in her purse. At the grocery store, or in a parkinglot, nobody is going to measure your barrel diameter when you whip that thing out and point it at them. And while tiny, I'd still rather not get peppered with something moving 1000 fps. And a little .22, you could do a mag dump in seconds.... thats a deterrent. I had looked at the Glock .22s when they came out for her, but couldn't bring myself to pay that for a toy (not to say tupperware guns are bad, just that one glock is terrible). Now with ammo designed for the task, I might look at some other pistols in that caliber for her to use.... and I'm sure I'll find a use for her Ruger, somehow. Thanks for sharing @Jamie Jackson, I know your experience in the medical realm is hands on. Often wondered how those news stories on the gang bangers always say "non-life threatening injuries". -
Hahah @RED333, I hear ya. Thats why I posted Herr Schumann's picture! Rode my bike across the Rainbow Bridge (Niagara Falls) when I was a teen. By myself! My only ID was a library card! Even if my passport was current, I couldn't go. Sad times. Over a fake pandemic... I honestly take solace in the fact things are accelerating and moving more quickly now. Its how you KNOW the time is getting closer! Buckle up buckaroos!

Dogs are by far the better choice, IMO. -

I saw a thing in the news about the health order. Its crazy whats happening in the whole world these days. That being said, its one reason I left WNY and moved to EastTN. Get yourself moving. Maybe take a boat and swim across (just don't spill my beer, eh?) Kevin

I'll second that Amen!

My FIL moved from FLA to Crossville to be nearer his daughter. It seems nice there, like you mentioned, modicum of infrastructure. I'm just down the escarpment, but our temps are consistently 5-10 deg warmer than him (old sail boater, always on about the weather). He will get an inch or two of snow when we get rain. Demographics are as they appear. Meth-heads are the problem children, but tweakers are pretty easy to spot. Jobs would be the concern, just not densely populated. Cookeville is closer to Nashville, figuratively and literally. -
Interesting, thanks for the tip! I'm just learning about some of the hike-able plane crash sites in the Smokies.

Rare earth metals as well. Those fancy hitech gizmos don't exist without rare earths in one form or another, frequently a couple different ones. China is about the only real (volume) source. Sadly, there used to be domestic supply, but would take years to restart, and a whole passel of environmental groups that would need to be distracted.

Lol. Damn. Good news is my son's in Troop 101!

LMAO!!! I'm on the West side, private property in the country. You can come out here anytime. Won't even ask you to pickup the brass!

I thank my English teachers for making me reaf Huxley, Orwell, and Bradbury. It still needs to be required reading today. Now more than ever!

Huh, interesting. Downloading now.....

That was a good read. Thanks for sharing. Some well thought out ideas there. Despite our differences here, I think we all agree with his final statement (quoted above).

Very true. I agree. However, word of warning.... Years ago in a passed life I had several saltwater reef aquariums, helped startup a local hobby club, and participated in online chat forums regularly on Reefcentral (TGO for reefers!) We started having club meetings at peoples homes (cuz you can't haul a 200 gallon aquarium to the park!) Really good times: pizza, chips, soda, coffee, great conversations, faces to names, and the trading, OMG the trading... people pull up with 50 gal coolers filled with little plastic baggies... but I digress. One longtime member hosted a meeting at his house to show off a new and fairly rare coral he had just acquired. Lots of new members showed up. A week later, someone had broken into his home during the day, and stole that piece of coral. That was the last club meeting we ever held. I do not invite people I do not know personally in to my home anymore.

I believe someone was held to account?

I too feel that the world has gone nuts. Very comforting to have a place like this where we can commiserate and share our thoughts. Just think, soon they'll try to outlaw that, too. I have found that 'speaking with my wallet' to be effective at making me feel better. I haven't gone into that place since they started their shenanigans with gun sales. Never will, either. Hope to see you in bankruptcy! Yelling at the manager is pointless with big corporations like that. They don't have a choice in what the policy is, and failure to enforce could = losing their job. I will politely inform the salaried employee why I am leaving without purchasing the product, and leave it at that. "Amazon makes another sale!" I'll mention on my way out the door.

a classic tell that someones being played! The lying in the media is a real problem. I don't think most folks 'get it' (present company excluded). The bulk of the population is simply too stupid. They are easily led, hence the 'sheep' moniker and memes.

I used to do that... Try to present cogent arguments in the comments section of my local tee vee news website. Noticed others as well. Then low and behold, they turned commenting off on their sites. Funny aye?
