Falcon Bullet Company Review Part 2
Cherokee Slim replied to dlmeadows's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I've ordered the specific cowboy .45 bullet I load so I will also look at consistency in weight, mishapes, etc. I'm hoping they work out for me so that I have a closer supplier. Cherokee Slim -
Several times. I've partially worn out 2 Bearcats, somehow completely jammed up a .45 Vaquero and there was something else I broke but forget what it was. We shoot 14 Rugers pretty hard, from LCPs, LC9 to Vaqueros in several calibers. Ruger CS has always been polite and really quick to fix my problems. I've never been charged for repair even when it was obvious I messed it up. Sometimes they send (email) you a prepaid FedEx sticker, sometimes you pay. They have always paid to return to me. I have only had good service from them. Cherokee Slim

I have several different presses set up and would help anybody who wanted to come by. I'm retired so scheduling is easy as long as I'm not shooting or at church. I'm in Lakesite (Soddy Daisy) just off of Hixson Pike. Cherokee Slim

Besides being good to eat - honey is also used in wound treatment. I've used it on gangrene and several other serious infections/ wounds in the jungles & mountains of South America. Doctors here used to poo poo the idea but the AMA is reporting about US doctors experimenting with honey infused pads now. The idea is that the bacteria & such go after the easier free sugar on the wound and get ambushed from the rear, no pun intended, by normal antibiotics. We always kept a jar in the first aid kits whenever we did rural work. Cherokee Slim -

New Gunshop in Hixson - 22LR $69 / brick
Cherokee Slim replied to Paisan's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
OK so since I live fairly close to this new shop I stopped by today to see what all the hubbubs about. I met the owner David Ratledge who just seems like a young guy trying out his dream of owning a LGS. The prices on all the handguns seemed to be normal for our area. Glocks were all $550. His DB380 was a little cheaper than another my SIL looked at somewhere else. I need another DB9 but his supplier was out of stock. The ammo is high but he says he has to pay high to even get it. Long guns didn’t seem to be overpriced and he had some of the sexy tactical lookin’ rifles some people like. I asked about the “No Loaded Firearms†sign prominently displayed on the door. He said that ATF said that they should have it. I explained the HCPer point of view and he agrees a HCP carrier would not be a problem. He may post another sign for legal carry. Bottom line - He seems like a nice young inexperienced guy trying to get a start in the business. I’d at least look at him if I lived close and wanted to buy a pistola. I should have asked about transfers but forgot. I’ve invited him to post here so we’ll see. I’d like to see more LGShops rather than less. Cherokee Slim -
Great bullets at a very good price.
Cherokee Slim replied to dlmeadows's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
OK an update. I couldn't believe it. I emailed them about 4:10 today, a SUNDAY, and I got a response from William Moore at about 4:30! They have ordered the molds, etc for my specific bullet and it will be here in a week or so. They are cheaper then Missouri Bullets and they are semi-local. Tennessee anyway. I'll be ordering soon as they are ready. Cherokee Slim -

I heard somewhere that they also have bullets for cowboy shooting but I don't see what I shoot on their website. I usually shoot a Missouri Bullet Cowboy #4 - .452 diameter, 200 grain RNFP. I use the same bullet for pistol, rifle and in the 1911 I use for Wild Bunch matches. I've emailed them the question so we'll see. I'd rather buy locally. Cherokee Slim -
I'm pretty sure moving from Cajun Country to the Buckle of the Bible Belt in REHea County doesn't make you a yankee, yet. Cherokee Slim (Born in Pa but came to the Truth 50 years ago when my father in law told me you could repent a being a yankee just like any other sin)

I have one with the checkering. I shoot it at every cowboy match since it's my favorite, over the .357 I have. At SASS match rifle distance targets it's kind of a cross between point shooting and actually aiming but the long barrel makes it easy. I've matched it with two Ruger Birdshead Vaqueros in .45. It's a fine low maintenance rifle even when shot hard. Cherokee Slim

Then you might remember "The Yankee"

On another thread we speculated about why Midway charges so much for shipping. So I asked Larry Potterfield. It took a while but here is the response I got - Dear Richard, Thanks for your contact with Larry. I’m sorry it’s taken a while to respond—As soon as the November election was complete Larry’s customer contact rate via email, voice mail and letter skyrocketed to well more than 2000 per week. He reads/listens to all his contacts but obviously can’t respond to them personally. Between this and his other obligations as CEO, it takes him a while to respond to customer inquiries. He asked me to follow up with you. We used to roll the cost of shipping into the price of the products. This meant customers in the Midwest were subsidizing the shipping cost of customers on the coasts. The policy we started in May of 2001 charges our customers their actual cost of shipping (plus a small charge for packing/insurance/etc.). We do not pad our product profits to offset "free" or artificially low shipping costs. The charges you pay are not used to offset the orders of other customers nor are their orders used to subsidize yours. You will notice that this philosophy means our shipping charges are based on the cost of shipping the order, not on the VALUE of the order. As ammunition is an ORM-D class product it MUST ship via UPS Ground regardless of the number of rounds shipped or the weight of the ammunition in the package. That’s the reason for the shipping charge. I appreciate your understanding and apologize for any inconvenience. If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact us at 1-800-243-3220. Our hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. CT; Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. CT. You may also email us at customerservice@midwayusa.com. Thanks for Your Business! A bunch of cowboys and I were having lunch after a match a couple of weeks ago when the subject of diving came up. My daughter and SIL have dive logs full of different certifications but rented most of their gear to dive. That led to another cowboy saying he didn't dive anymore but had lots of gear. That resulted in a trade for a Smith 4013 I had gotten for Obama insurance. I got tanks and belts, weights, knives, lamps, floats, bags everything they needed to not have to rent. My Dr daughter cried she was so happy. Everybody won. A pistol just sitting at the bottom of my gun safe is in the hands of somebody who will shoot it. Scuba gear in a dusty box unused now get used 2-3 times a month. Everybody's happy happy happy. Cherokee Slim

Ok so I was curious. Larry Potterfield says he wants his customers satisfied. I emailed his office with a link to this thread and asked him to either post or email me. We'll see what if anything he does. Cherokee Slim

I took a Barnett Panzer to Peru for my assignment there. It killed many wild pigs for food and big snakes just because I don't like them. You can still eat them anyway. It never failed and the bolts were available even in Lima. Cherokee Slim http://barnettcrossbows.com/products/crossbows/crossbows-core/panzer-v

Is there some kind of hazmat charge for ammo? I've gotten several emails about ammo being there but unless I have a big order $40 more or less for a .22 brick isn't any better than the people trying to make a killing off of the shortage. Cherokee Slim

Background checks off limits to employers?
Cherokee Slim replied to deerslayer's topic in General Chat
So the plea deal now so common, punishes one of 20 charges with all but that one dismissed. So you have a serial/career thief, rapist or whatever that you put to work because he paid his debt to society for one crime. There is no way this wont turn into a disaster. Cherokee Slim -
THP didn't used to have a quota. Due to bad PR that would result I would doubt they have one now. What they WILL do is if somebody in Nashville thinks a Districts ticket numbers are down, the Road Lieutenant will stand on the side of the Interstate with 3-4 catch cars & a speed gun to raise the numbers. Pennsylvania is the only state with some kind of a legal regulation about wearing the hat that I know of. It had to do originally with all the unmarked cars they used for speed enforcement. You could tell it was a Trooper if you saw the smokey hat & usually a shotgun barrel in the window. Tennessee only has policy about wearing the hat outside the car unless it's changed. I was photographed carrying a child out of a wreck without my hat on. It showed up in the Jackson Sun and cost me a day off. Cherokee Slim

Use of an AR or shotgun would have been provoked somehow by the driver of the stopped car. A BOLO, wild driving or something caused a more than usual response. Contempt of Cop may happen and be dealt with. In today's world an officer's life doesn't seem to value much. I would do whatever I had to do to go home at the end of the shift. In a city like Oak Ridge or wherever backup is usually available but still takes time to get there. I was a State Trooper and frequently the only law working outside a city for 2-3 counties during a night or midnight shift. Deputies are frequently in the same spot. I would make the bad guy believe that I was going to rip him apart piece by piece and feed him to the hogs. More that once I made a man wet his pants out of fear for his life. Halfway from your car to his and hearing the dispatcher say he is wanted for something changes the lovable teddy bear into the raging grizzly bear who wants to go home to mama & the kids at the end of the shift. My cheapo way to do it is a round file in my drill press. I cut them off so that I can ream out to the base of the pocket. I found one for large & another for small pockets. Cherokee Slim
