  1. It is easy enough to raise a folded dipole, or simply a long wire antenna to use just for SW listening or for transmitting on the HF bands. I just raised a folded dipole with a balun and ladder line drop for my use on the HF Amateur Radio bands.  A  Walmart kids bow & arrow, with fishing line attached to the arrow is shot into a tree as high as you can do it.  The heaver wire is them pulled up and attached to the tree at the base.  Same thing with the other end of the antenna.  Height is your friend.  I have an 8" copper ground rod and a ground wire that runs the length of the house proving not only a good ground but a counterpoise to the antenna itself.  A flooded dipole requires a balun in the center, but there are many diagrams on the internet showing how to make one.  Depending on the time of day, band and propagation you will be able to hear stations all over the world.  If you want to see one in operation come to Lakesite north of Hixson & I'll be glad to show you mine.  This is also an easily setup & portable antenna system that you can take anywhere. 2. Still waiting for something shootable.  I've only seen a doe that still had a spot covered fawn so that one got away until maybe next year.
  3. Semper Fi! Cherokee Slim Sergeant of Marines 1968-1972
  4. Thanks for the help.  I'll keep trying until I get something that I like.
  5. I may just try to do it with a springy piece of metal.
  6. This time it's the arrow tensioner from my Barnett 400 crossbow.  Next time who knows but I want to take my cleanly broken plastic tensioner, make a mold in play doh or something and mix six easily purchased things from Walmart that will fill my mold with a hard plastic.  Like the plastic gun John Malkovich made in "In the Line of Fire."   It seems like there has to be an easy way to do this that costs less than $14 + $4.95 shipping.   Cherokee Slim
  7. Walmart has them under $5.00.  This time of year is when I stock up on enough to shoot 24-30 cowboy matches in the coming year.  Usually about a box a match so $4.89 or so is a welcome sight. Cherokee Slim
  8. Cowboy shoot tomorrow, church Sunday and in the stand Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and however long it takes.  It's that time of year again! Cherokee Slim
  9. Our smallest is the DB9. We have not experienced any of the issues that I have seen reported. My carries this one when she carries. I carry it in the garage and around the house. I'd try to shoot everything you can get your hands on, then decide. Ya pays ur money & ya takes ur chances. Cherokee Slim
  10. Wonder what the ax was for?
  11. Thank you.  I bought it in 2010 I think, and have never had any kind of jam.  I swapped out the backplate for one with the eagle, globe and anchor of my Marines.  I always carry a .45, swapping out the G36 for a Colt New Agent and a Ruger Vaquero depending on the mood of the day. 12. I haven't seen any barb wire or any other kind of fence out there.  So if you can go 60-70 acres in any direction how big a range do you think deer have?  I've never really thought about it. Cherokee Slim
  13. Only one doe has showed up on a path I have a trail cam on for 3-4 months now. In mid-July she was normal without any injuries. Now look at her. Since there are bears in the area they were my first thought, but I wouldn't bet on it. I see a straight line cut along the back; and cuts at 1:00, 2:00 & 3:00; that big gouge and maybe two at the top of her front leg. Any ideas? Cherokee Slim
  14. No wonder I got conflicting responses from people I have asked over the years.  I have a better understanding now, and I appreciate ya'll being informative and keeping it civil.  Simple questions seem to all of a sudden head for hell in a hand basket now.  And ya know, sometimes you have to repeat in to  us Marines. :usa: Cherokee Slim
  15. I don't understand.
  16. Don't want to stir anything up here, you can always call in the Marines - but what is the deal with these two women getting Ranger tabs but not being assigned to the 75th Regiment?  Are they Rangers or not?  If they are Rangers why would they not be assigned to the Ranger Regiment?  I was all for women in the military until the Navy started recruiting my granddaughter to fly helicopters. I'd hate to see her humping a ruck, but there seem to be women who are up to the physical challenge. The Army swears the requirements were not changed.  So other than political interference & correctness, what's going on here? Cherokee  Slim
  17. I am setup with a Dillon 550b for .45lc.  If you get jammed up, have some components and don't mind a trip to  Chattanooga I'll help you load up a batch. Bullets are easy to get here. Cherokee Slim
  18. Congratulations! A new generation of shooter is born to your family.  I recommend a Ruger Bearcat to celebrate.  It's a good starter revolver.  We started our daughters and then grandkids shooting at 4 years old sitting in dad's/PawPaw's lap. Cherokee Slim
  19. From a secret undisclosed location near Flat Top Mountain this summer -
  20. I was in front of that bank by Logans, with the Marine flag. Cherokee Slim
  21. This was my wife's exact same results.  After the first one she started crying and said that she hadn't realized how she missed all the colors. Cherokee Slim
  22. It means that it is a Marlin made barrel, as opposed to no marking or "REM" indicating a Remington made barrel.  Newer barrels are made by Remington so the JM also means that it's an older gun.  You can find more information on a specific gun on the Marlin Forum.   http://www.marlinowners.com/index.php   Cherokee Slim
  23. I probably took 50 pictures with 2 cameras and a cellphone to finally get this one -
  24. This is a great place to shoot.  It sponsors many shooting disciplines, handgun carry classes, indoor archery, hunter safety, the list goes on.  I will shoot in a Cowboy Action match there tomorrow, with the Ocoee Rangers. Cherokee Slim
