I agree. I changed out my .380's when the smaller 9mm's came out. Both daughters went from LCP's to LC9's. Wife went to the DB9 which has never jammed of failed in any way except limp wrist. I only carry a .45 unless I really, really have to conceal, then it's the DB9. Cherokee Slim

I like the change. Gun buster signs were one reason I quit going to shows here in Chattanooga. That and over priced guns, ammo and Taiwanese jewelry. I actually got bored (don"t flame me) seeing 50 feet of black pistols that all looked the same. I look for the jewel that stands out, usually at triple the price it should be. Or like this jewel of mine. Cherokee Slim

Not a ticket that I would have written unless the Lt. was calling out 6 mph over the limit from his speed gun to raise numbers.

Two-Way Radio Communications (Basics)

You can program the Baofeng without a computer, I've done with one of mine. My Icom ID-51a as well. The computer just makes programming easy, especially if you have big fingers like me. I have programmed the same 25 frequencies, 2 meter and 440 that are used in my area, on all three of my radios. -
Small or large primer, they both go bang. I separate them after I pick them up at the range. Cherokee Slim

How you respond to the officer many times determines whether you get a ticket or not. If he's on camera nowadays he may not have much discretion. A smart mouth never got a break. I never knowingly wrote military, Leo's or their family. "Contempt of Cop" always got tickets for every violation seen. "575-205" alsonever got any kind of ticket. Who remembers why? I stopped Miss Dolly once for speeding on I 40. She was as nice as could be. She got her DL out of an ID case with a THP Captain badge & ID. No ticket. Cherokee Slim

Question - Legal Carry of Shotgun/Rifle in Scabbard on Motorcycle?
Cherokee Slim replied to a topic in Long Guns
Several people come to Cowboy matches with their long guns in scabbards. I wouldn't worry about it. Cherokee Slim -
Carrier has had some kind of a manufacturing plant in Monterrey for a long time. I think it had something to do with controls but I disremember exactly what. Cherokee Slim

Flying to Europe for the first time..

Get off the tourist path and explore. The Happy Meal at McDonald's cost $15 the last time we were in Zurich. Off on side streets you can get relatively large and good meals for $5 to $6. Any US franchise is expensive. Eating food Off the street carts may be romantic but learn the local phrases for stomach & diarrhea medicine ahead of time. They will not understand your humor and Google translate will make it worse. The "ugly american" who knows it all and tells them what's wrong with their country or work process Will offend the nationals and limit the positive interaction you can have. You are rich, just because you could make the trip so look for prices to increase and legal issues like drugs to not be forgiven easily. Keep copies of your passport stashed in different suitcases in case you get robbed. Current value of stolen US passport was $1000 last I checked. My experience. Your mileage may vary. -
Ever brought a gun because of a TV show or movie.

I saw both and got the Marlin. The stock was a tad long for the 200 yard buffalo shoots and for deer hunting all heavy clothed up so I cut it off a little. It fits much better now. Very smooth action and it feeds my reloads easily. You won't go wrong with either one. I think The Marlin costs less but I may be wrong on that. Cherokee Slim

What type of purses are the ladies using?
Cherokee Slim replied to TripleDigitRide's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have twice made the mistake of buying top quality handbags made to conceal a pistol. My wife didn't like either one. A G22, G23, Ruger LCP and LC9, a 649 and a P22 have all been shrugged off with a look of distain. She finally settled on and actually will carry a DB9 that has never failed to feed or eject, in a Desantis IWB, that she sticks in her pocket plastic clip and all. Go figure. 46 years of experience tells me to let her find what she likes on her own. Cherokee Slim -
HCP Class in Clarksville
Cherokee Slim replied to Cherokee Slim's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have the info that I needed. I knew I could count on TGO for help. Thank you. Cherokee Slim -
My granddaughter lives in Clarksville and will turn 21 later this month. Is there a place in Clarksville where she can take the HCP Class, AND let her use or rent her a revolver? The Family has gotten her a 642 but no one wants to give it to her until after the class and HCP. Cherokee Slim

Ustawuz when I was a State Trooper way back when we used horses - "Retired" was the first part of the phrase - "Retired with leave to reinstate." That was meant as a Damocles Sword over an offender to make them change whatever behavior the prosecutor or judge wanted changed. It was also used for traffic tickets where the person didn't pay and it was too much trouble to go get them for a headlight violation or something. Sometimes the offender would petition the court after a time to change "Retired with leave to reinstate" to a flat out "Dismissed." You weren't found innocent but for whatever reason the judge dismissed the charge. Cherokee Slim -
Two-Way Radio Communications (Basics)
Cherokee Slim replied to R_Bert's topic in Survival and Preparedness
The Chattanooga Amateur Radio Club offers a Technician license class & test all in one night. That would allow you to operate all of these 2 meter & 70 cm radios. A $25 radio that operates on both bands is a great deal. Get one, stash one back in case something happens to the first one. http://smile.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-Dual-Radio-Black/dp/B007H4VT7A/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1449164426&sr=1-3&keywords=baofeng+uv-5r -
Two-Way Radio Communications (Basics)

Coming back from Peru when I retired one crate containing all of my 1980's era radios was somehow immersed in the ocean. Now, I'm getting back into Ham and I see even the $25 VHF/UHF Baufeng handi has to be connected to a computer to program frequencies. It's a pain but the technology continues to advance. How to thank an officer for going far beyond the C.O.D.?
Cherokee Slim replied to Randall53's topic in General Chat
A written letter to whoever the highest boss is will go into his/her permanent record. Chief of Police, Commissioner of Homeland Security, etc. It doesn't hurt to copy the mayor or governor. The letters like this help balance the crackpot letters. I speak from personal experience. Cherokee Slim -
