I got to go by and visit with them this morning. The range isn't finished yet but it looks like it will be pretty nice. It will also be open 24 hours for premium ($200/yr) members. Free FFL transfers are included in that membership, so that's a plus. They had a good range of black handguns, even some pink ones. Revolvers were pretty much limited to J frames. They had some long guns, a few cowboy rifles but no SA revolvers. They had quite a bit of black powder hunting accessories, but I don't remember seeing any BP guns. Smokeless was limited to Bullseye powder, so that would need to improve for me to buy reloading supplies there. They had a limited supply of bullets. Maybe 10k or 15k of primers sm & lg pistol. Ammo seemed to be well stocked. I bought some target backboards that I haven't seen anyplace else. It seems to be a family operation, they were all very friendly. Inventory is at about 60% from what they told me so I'll need to go back to see what new they'll carry. Overall it was a very positive experience so I'll go back. Cherokee Slim

I hope this works out. I will certainly visit the store. Are you one of the SASS "Cowgirls"? The name sounds familiar. Cherokee Slim

Dodd and Associates reviews/impressions?
Cherokee Slim replied to crashgordan's topic in Training Discussions
THIS IS WHAT I POSTED ON ANOTHER THREAD. After researching the Chattanooga area possibilities for HCP classes, I sent my wife, daughter, son-in-law, and his brother & father to Dodds & Assoociates Training in Soddy Daisy/Sale Creek. Civilian, Police, Military Firearms Training - Dodd and Associates Firearms Training They were all experienced shooters. My girls were treated with respect, something female shooters don't always get. The class was well run and even though they were all shooters they all said that they had learned new things. The only problem was shooting at 15 degree weather, something I'm sure I'll hear about for years to come. Ron Dodd did a good job and I would recommend his classes to others, especially women who don't want to be talked down to. Cherokee Slim __________________ -
SASS, FFLs for transfers and places to shoot! As long as UPS can deliver my Midway orders and I have high speed internet I can rough it out up there. I would be centered somewhere around exit 317, so not far from Cookville. Thanks for the info. I've bookmarked what ya'll sent me and will check them out if this all works out. Cherokee Slim

I'm thinking about relocating to Crossville. Are there any good shops and/or shooting clubs up there? How 'bout Cowboys? Cherokee Slim

HCP Class- Soddy Daisy - GOOD Results

That may be so, but everywhere I called was $75, same as Dodd. It's also what I paid 5 years ago at Sportsman Supply. Cherokee Slim -

I didn't need the info the last time I saw it, but now my wife, daughter and son-in -law want HCPs. Could someone send me the info of the guy who does the HCP class in Soddy Daisy? I've heard he has a good rep. PM me if you don't want to list his name & number. Thanks. Cherokee Slim

Or at least she would if she could talk. Fabiola is the 3 year old Quechua baby that we have brought back from Cusco Peru for Heart surgery. She got a $100 gift certificate to Toys R Us from TnGunowners.com. We appreciate the gift and used it for OTC medicine they sell there, and some specific toys to help her crude & fine motor skills. (She has Down's Syndrone as well as heart problems.) Again, thanks for the gift. Cherokee Slim

I just got the box. It already has he S&W logo engraved into it, with Smith and Wesson engraved below it. I think I'm going to leave it as is and keep looking for an original box. thanks for the help. Cherokee Slim

I have some land on Hwy 27, Suck Creek mountain area where my grandsons & I have kicked up several big toms. There are also some deer up there. No one, that I know of, has been up there for almost two years. My personal range is there. PM me if you want to go up & look. It's between Powell's Crossroads & the PC State Park. Cherokee SLim

That is a common model sold by Walmart. It's where I got mine. I've put it to good use several times. Cherokee Slim

Is a sling still helpful with a bipod?
Cherokee Slim replied to a topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I like to use the sling along with a bipod or rest of some kind, especially for long range shooting. The Corps taught that a long time ago, and I've never changed. There is less shoulder & upper body movement, and you are more "welded" to the weapon. I'd define long range, for me anyway, as anything over 400-500 yards. Cherokee Slim -
Oh, I thought you were talking about burglar alarms, like we have here. They talk to each other and scare away the bad guys. Cherokee Slim

I know there is a trophy shop there on Hixson pike. 30 years ago I had to sell my THP 50th anniversary S&W M-19. I just got it back, but without the original case. What I want is the 50th anniversary logo on the top, so I can hand box, gun, badge etc. down to my grandson someday. Any contact info for the guitar makers? I get back to the states in the next couple of weeks and would like to get the work started. Also want to visit this "Hero Gear" I hear so much about. Cherokee Slim

Does anyone know who can laser cut a logo into the top of a S&W wooden display box? What options are there other than laser cut? Thanks Cherokee Slim

The law requires lights on 30 minutes after sundown. Doesn't say anything about parking lights. If I saw somebody driving with parking lights after dark I would always stop them, assuming they were impaired. http://www.state.tn.us/safety/dlhandbook/DL_StudyGuide2007.pdf (Page 20) Cherokee Slim

In 1972 most of my THP academy class was taken to Gun City to get a special price on High Standard DA .22mag derringers. That's the last time I ever was there. Since Chattanooga has gotten so poor on good shops I've taken to getting almost everything on line. I find exactly what I want and Skip's Firearms does the transfers. It cuts down on impulse buying. (except for that 2 Colt New Agents instead of one purchase last week) Terry's Toys takes care of all my SASS (cowboy) guns. Midway, all my reloading & non-gun stuff. Hero Gear sounds like a fun trip from Chattanooga, with lunch later at the Outpost Armory? I don't get to get back to the states very often so I try to optimize my gun time. Cherokee Slim
