  1. I75 just North outside Chattanooga, before Cleveland is the Smokey Mountain Knife Works. Cherokee Slim
  2. I'm listening to the scanner right now and there are downed trees/powerlines all over Hamilton Co. We canceled TASK & ESL classes at church because the bad part of the storm is supposed to hit about 6pm, just when we would be heading that way. Looks like the winds hit early. Cherokee Slim
  3. I Believe Carl is AKA Cochise, a Cowboy Action SHooter. I've been well treated there as well. Haven't spent 2k there, yet but close. Cherokee Slim
  4. As long as we're giving input - I think a .22 mag would be a realistic calibre for this. More power than a .22 lr. Anything bigger and you have a larger diameter cylinder and more recoil. I'd buy it in .22 mag. Cherokee Slim
  5. I have learned to NEVER let the grandkids borrow my cellphone. Fat Bottomed Girls, Naked Ladies, theme from The Stripper, they all seem to ring at the wrong time. And I never know what the wallpaper will be. Cherokee Slim
  6. Is the Federal stamp $200 or $5 or something else? I have had one before and would get another of the price was right. Cherokee Slim
  7. The trumpet riffs from Ride of the Valkaries Cherokee Slim
  8. I have the longer barrel version with weights. While mine shoots just about anything, the front sight/weight keeps coming loose. I have to loosen it all the way up, reseat the weight and crank it down again. It's a real pain even with Loctite. I've ordered the shorter barrel from S&W but it hasn't arrived yet. Cherokee Slim
  9. The cased set came with a spacer gage. I would adjust it perfectly, then it would shoot loose after 6 or 8 shots. 3 grains of Bullseye shouldn't have done that. Sometime it would tighten up. I just got tired of messin' with it. Cherokee Slim
  10. Are they still making this gun with three barrels, 2 sets of grips and a barrel nut holding it together? It about drove me crazy shooting loose, or was too tight, all the time. Cherokee Slim
  11. They are on sale at Academy in Hixson for $299 right now. Cherokee Slim
  12. Back in the early 70’s Troopers in uniform had to carry the issue revolver. But the TBI wasn’t so strict. The first time I was assigned to work undercover with the TBI, Senior Agent Warren Jones was the boss. He was Old School, and the one who did all of the Buford Pusser investigations. He always dressed in a short sleeve white shirt & tie, a jacket if it was warm enough. He always wore a hat, had an ID case in his shirt pocket and a 4” S&W revolver hanging off his belt. You could tell who he was from a mile away. He said it would be fine for me to carry an auto so first day undercover I showed up with a S&W Model 59 in a shoulder holster and a light jacket. First thing out of his mouth was some reference to me being a dumb a$$, that I was supposed to be undercover and that the whole world would look at me and know who I was. After another half hour lecture on professionalism, and the passing comments of other Troops in uniform, I ended up with the 59 in my boot for the rest of the day. I’ve tried to use a shoulder holster since them a few times but the glammer was gone, and they don’t work real well for big men anyway. Cherokee Slim
  13. Maybe you "New Corps" Marines can comment on something I've noticed. I was an E5 Sgt the last year of my 4 year enlistment. That would have been mid 1972 when I got out and I turned 21 that same month. It seems now the Marines are older with a lower rank. Like an older looking E4 with two hash marks. Granted there are screwups and demotions for whatever reason, but is rank harder to get now? Are the serving Marines just older? Cherokee Slim

  15. I heard Speedo or somebody was making plastic shoulder holsters for Glocks. Just the thing for those pesky water sports.
  16. I'm never more than a step or 2 from a gun in the house or garage. I always have the LCP in my pocket regardless. After all, I live in (near) Chattanooga, the 11th most dangerous city in the United States. We're so proud. I hope it comes with a wall plaque or a trophy or something. Cherokee Slim
  17. PM me your email & I'll send pictures. Cherokee Slim
  18. Sevierville may not be in the neighborhood but I just got a revolver for my grandson that Tony Barnett engraved. He is at barnettsignaturecalls@yahoo.com. I think it is almost too pretty to shoot but we probably will anyway. He did an excellent job on it. PM me your email & I'll send pictures. Cherokee Slim
  19. You can just renew at any meeting. They didn't require expired members to have references when I was there. Cherokee Slim
  20. I was just there yesterday. Went in through JC Pennys and left from Sears. I also ate at Picadilly a few days ago and I haven't seen any signs at all. Cherokee Slim
  21. I carry exactly the same way. I'm about the same size. Shoulder holsters & crossdraws don't work for bigger size men. The Crossbreed series also doesn't work well for me, I keep bending the clips out. The only holster difference is that my Don Hume's have straps instead of clips. I'm also coming to like the Desantis Covert Option IWB> Cherokee (not so) Slim
  22. We are going to spend a few days at Fall Creek Falls next week. Are there any gunshops in that area? Around Pikeville? Thanks Cherokee Slim
  23. For one of my assignments I lived in Monterrey Mexico for 10 years. I joined a hunting club because it was the only way to legally buy guns. The club had a huge hunting preserve between Monterrey & McAllen Tx that for years had been know for large deer. But all of a sudden the deer population dropped. We finally realized that packs of coyotes were killing the deer. But we couldn't get the coyotes to come out of the brush to kill them. We hunted off of shooting towers that gave us 200-300 yard shooting lanes surrounded by thick brush. We also had hundreds of javelinas. You can't eat them, the meat is horrible. So we killed javelinas and hung the carcasses in the shooting lanes. The coyotes came out for the free meat and we shot them by the dozens. They never figured out where the shots came from because we could shoot from so far away. After 2-3 years the big deer population started to grow. Now the club controls the javelina & coyote population by pretty much having open season on them, and big deer are able to be hunted again. It was a win, win situation for a shooter like me. 24. I tried the PT145 before the Colt. For me, and your mileage may vary, it was too heavy & I didn't like the grip to barrel angle. You should be able to find an example of most models to fondle, I mean evaluate, before you buy. Cherokee Slim
  25. My EDC is a Colt New Agent in .45acp. I got it for it's size. I have also worked for almost 30 years in Latin America. Colombia, Mexico, Ecuador and most recently Peru. While the .45 is made in several LA countries, the locals almost always can't buy them. Most countries limit non-police or military to .38 special in revolvers or .380acp in pistols. .32's and .22's are also popular. I'm not saying you can't buy a 9mm or .45acp, but you don't want to be caught with them. Taurus in Brazil makes some good guns, as does Llama. Mendoza in Mexico goes somewhat exotic with a .22 full auto in a small .22lr Llama sized auto. Quality is OK until they break. Cherokee Slim
