  1. Walther is S&W. I ordered a barrel change kit and it arrived very quickly. But it was missing two small parts. After a phone call the parts got here two days later. I can't complain about the service. Cherokee Slim
  2. My grandsons and I have tracked down about 5 locations. One in Lawrenceville Ga was easy because it was in a public type park. But one here on TWRA land near Hixson is hidden in a tiny container, hidden somewhere in a tree. We have found the tree several times but never the actual cache. Cherokee Slim
  3. I have yet to try taxidermy but this is a great thread. Please keep the posts coming. Cherokee Slim
  4. There have been fewer and fewer dealers, and the prices have been sky high. That being said, I bought a Remington model 12 pump .22, c.1928 on the front porch and a .22 High Standard revolver that I had been looking for for years at a private sale table. Both haggled and I got both guns at a good price. I wont go back this time but it does beat walking the sporting goods aisle at Walmart. Cherokee Slim
  5. I have collected police badges for about 40 years. It's easy to end up with a lot of stuff that wasn't your original target. I try to stay with USMS and the old Tennessee State Police badges & patches. Cherokee Slim
  6. The very easiest is the slide cover plate. I got one for my G36 with the USMC logo on it and it just slipped right in. Cherokee Slim
  7. We just started loading for the 45-70 so that we can shoot the buffalo side matches. We're using the 405 gn lead bullet and 12.3 grains of Trail Boss. Rifle is a Tri Star Sharps. The load should be hefty, but within SASS rules. Tomorrow, Saturday, we'll shoot it for the first time at 100 and 200 yard steel buffalos at the Ocoee Rangers shoot at Cleveland. We'll also shoot the long range pistol caliber match with e .45 lc Taurus Thunderbolt. Any day I can shoot with my grandsons, (new cowboys) is a good day. Cherokee Slim
  8. Here are some local pictures: Pictures by Cherokee_Slim - Photobucket TN Mountain Marauders Main Page Cherokee Slim
  9. Here is the home page for the Single Action Shooting Society: SASS-Home of Cowboy Action Shooting The Wartrace Regulators are the closest club to you: Clubs - Detail You are also close enough to shoot with the Tennessee Mountain Marauders who shoot at Mystery Dog Ranch off of Exit 1 on I75 in Chattanooga; or the Ocoee Rangers who shoot at the Cleveland Hunting Rifle and Pistol Club. All the rules and age/style categories are on the SASS site. There is next to no running crouching twisting or turning. We normally shoot five stages; each stage shoots 5 shots from each of 2 revolvers, 10 rounds rifle, and about 4 shotgun rounds. All are shot at steel targets. The stages are different each month. Clothing is cowboy from the 1880's. You should go to a match before you start buying guns, leather and clothing, it will save you money in the long run. Each person selects a unique alias that reflects . . . . . something. Some are named for famous good guys or bad guys. Some from where they come from. I am "Cherokee Slim" because, I am Cherokee, and NOT slim. It's a fun sport. We concentrate first on safety, then on the shooting. It's very family friendly, young and lady shooters are encouraged to participate. You usually wont hear language that might offend you, for sure you wont hear it around your kids or your wife. If you just show up someone will help you with guns, ammo & leather so that you can shoot. Come & try it out, you wont be sorry. Cherokee Slim
  10. I have two that I brought back from my work in the Colombian jungle. They are about 30" long. Neither has poison on the darts. Kids used to kill bats in attics with them. You could probably really tick off, maybe even kill a rat or squirrel with a real solid hit, if they are standing still. They don't have any real range on them. Indians killed monkeys up the tree canopy with them, but the gun was three meters long, and the darts poisoned. They still had to hit them 6 to 8 times each to kill one. I agree you may well be better off with a good sling shot and ball bearing. Cherokee Slim
  11. Don't take anything into Mexico. But if you are there you can get permission to take guns back & forth hunting & to the range/club. Other countries - Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador & Peru if you have a resident visa the license to carry comes with the permission to buy. Not sure about other LA countries but I have had licenses/permits in these countries. Cherokee Slim
  12. The dog they killed was about beagle sized. It was a real family event. The kids cried, dad killed and cleaned it and mom cooked it. It ended up with a green color in the tortillas it was served in. I don't know if they added spices that made it that color or dog meat is just green after cooking. I didn't see any but that doesn't mean anything. They were Mapuche indians many hours west of Santiago Chile by bus and oxcart. Cherokee Slim
  13. I've made several PVC based target stands. They work very well for me, but when I let the grandkids shoot they last no more than 2 trips to the CHRPC range. The plus side is that they are cheap and very easy to make. I don't even bother using glue anymore and I make the kids do all the repair work. Cherokee Slim
  14. A lot of this stuff doesn't sound all that odd if you have lived and traveled outside the US. Did you know iguana tails break off as a defensive tool when they are caught? We could clean out the attic in the jungle and eat for a week! They grow back so PETA shouldn't be too upset. I raised 200 to 300 guinea pigs at a time in Peru to sell to finance an orphanage. One pig with a baked potato is a major meal for a normal sized eater. I can't seem to post photos so look here to see a real man's meal: Cherokee Slim
  15. Dog in Chile - they killed the family pet for for an honored guest, me. Piranna, fried locusts, anaconda and cayman in Colombian jungle. Bushmaster snake in Peru, just because he got in the way. Cherokee Slim
  16. That is a major accomplishment! Yustawuz that you had to be invited to shoot and only the best were allowed to come. Since ALL Marines are expert shooters with all weapons from slingshots to field artillery what he did is pretty cool. Cherokee Slim
  17. The Benny Guns show. It's got to be the worst on cable, so I dont watch it. On the other hand, my grandaughter watched Tiffany shoot a buck with a bow and is considering thinking about ruminating on hunting. Cherokee Slim
  18. Who is running it now? Is it still in the family? I first bought guns from the old man who's name escapes me; Then from Wayne. It's been a long long time but I remember Wayne to be an honest, trustworthy young man. Cherokee Slim
  19. I shoot a lot. And I just joined the Shooter's Depot here in Chattanooga (indoor range) so I will be shooting more. I shoot up all the cowboy ammo I can load at the 2 SASS matches near here each month. Now my grandsons will start shooting Cowboy this Saturday, basicly x3'ing my .38 special, .45 long colt needs. I load for everything I shoot because it saves me money on most calibers. Not so much for odd stuff like .243 or .380acp that I don't shoot a lot, but once you get started it's hard to stop. I reload 12 ga shotgun, just because I like to and can add chalk powder to make the smoke different colors if I want to. I don't save on shotgun but I do have different options. I started making my grandkids load .45acp & .223 because they would just rip thru magazines of ammo. I thought it would slow them down but it didn't. They enjoy reloading. I've just upgraded after 45 years to a Dillon R550 just to keep up. Cherokee Slim
  20. When I hear Chester County I think about the early 70's when I worked in Selmer & Jackson. Henderson was in-between and had a place called Robertson or Robinson's Pawnshop, a good place to buy & trade guns. I think the son Wayne, took it over from his father. Is that old pawnshop still there? Still a good gun place? Cherokee Slim
  21. Ya just can't not watch this guy. It's like a train wreck in action. Cherokee Slim
  22. I wouldn't assume anything. I used LegalZoom and did mine & got one for my wife for free. It was easy to do on line and did everything I needed to do. Cherokee Slim
  23. His name is Guynn, and is around 153 & Bonnie Oaks. His number is 899-1447. I've seen his work in a friend's house and it is excellent. I understand he is very popular and it sometimes takes time to get your mount back. Cherokee Slim
  24. The dealer prices were really high on everything. I was able to get really good deals on 2 hard to find guns I have looked for for several years, but they were from people outside or just walking around. I went for 2 Ruger NMVs but my dealer didn't show up because he never seems to do well there. CHerokee Slim
  25. You're right. It's Frost. It's the closest large knife store around. If a mile or 2 is too far out of your way too bad. No need to be snotty about it.
