  1. You want single actions? We got single actions - What I shoot Cowboy with, .45s - Rhinestone Rachel 13 years old, .32 - The Boys shoot normal Ruger New Vaqueros in either .45 or .38. Cherokee Slim
  2. My wife could never find local sources for a real selection of beads, she makes jewelery. So this is where she gets hers - http://www.firemountaingems.com/ From the little girl to the macho man they have just about everything. Cherokee Slim
  3. That's the workbench Harbor Freight puts on sale every month or so for about $140.00. It wasn't worth the time and energy it would take to try and build one for that price & it wouldn't look as good anyway. Youngest grandson took over all the drawers for his leatherwork. Cherokee Slim
  4. Here is my reloading set-up. It's in a corner of my garage. The presses are a Dillon 550B, Lyman Spar-T and a Lee Load All for 12 gauge. I change out .45lc and .38 on the Dillon, usually have 45-70 and .32mag on the Lyman. My 3 shooting grandkids, 16, 15 and 13 years all load their own ammo for cowboy matches. We reload 12 gauge when I can't get it cheap, same with .410 for Rhinestone Rachel's double. Cherokee Slim Ammo, spare parts cabinet, CAS shooting cart & cowboy leather
  5. I love his uniform. HCP badge, medals, admiral stripes on his jacket or something. The problem is that he actually gets votes every time he runs. Cherokee Slim
  6. Cowboys will shoot this Saturday. (April 28th) Range will be open and usually there are several visitors looking around. Cherokee Slim
  7. I paid $350 two years ago for a Marlin .38/.357 short barrel carbine for shootin' Cowboy. I just bought the Marlin Cowboy with octagonal barrel in .45 for $800. It was a hard to find rifle but I wanted to shoot all .45's in matches. One grandson shoots .38 Vaqueros so the Marlin .38 works well. We shoot the snot out of these rifles and have to crank out 400-500 rounds a month on my Dillon 550B just to keep up. There is no way we could buy bulk ammo and shoot as much as the four of us do. Prices on reloading vary, but avoid the hazmat fees by buying in a LGS that gets wholesale prices and can pass on the savings. Primers we get at monthly matches and have been running $30/1000 large or small. Deals can also be gotten from local bullet makers that significantly reduce that cost. I usually get powder, Trail Boss, from Midway or Sportsman's Warehouse, whoever is cheaper hazmat included. Odd bullets like .32 for my grandaughter's revolvers come from Missouri Bullet Co, always a good buy especially if a local maker isn't around. Cherokee Slim
  8. Eagle Scout with Bronze Palm about 1966. I've always said that the Marines made me a man but the Boy Scouts laid the foundation. Cherokee Slim
  9. How 'bout Dolly Parton? When I was a Trooper waaay back I stopped her on I40 in a little red convertible. She didn't get a ticket. First of all she outranked me (& my District Captain) and had the badge & commission card to prove it. Besides, she IS Dolly! Cherokee Slim
  10. Welcome to a great area for Cowboys! If you want to look good and have fun come out to Mystery Dog Ranch and shoot Cowboy with the Tennessee Mountain Marauders on the third Saturday of each month. http://www.themarauder.com/ or You can come to the Cleveland Hunting Rifle & Pistol Club on the fourth Saturday and shoot with the Ocoee Rangers. http://ocoeerangers....orums/index.php If you're fanatical about it you can shoot every weekend of the month in Cowboy Action Shooting matches, or other disciplines driving no more than two hours. Cherokee Slim
  11. My 13 year old grandaughter Rhinestone Rachel shoots Cowboy with this pair of Ruger Single Sixes with birdshead grips. She also has to reload all the ammo she shoots in practice & matches. Cherokee Slim
  12. Greetings from Greater Downtown Lakesite! Cherokee Slim
  13. Back when these were new I had the first vest in the 8th THP District. I went to the academy with a Troop from Memphis who bought the first one there. Because Davis did it, my friend did. In the parking lot of the THP Office. The vest worked but he broke a rib and was suspended for a while. There just isn't anything can be done for born stupid. Cherokee Slim
  14. Three of my grandkids and I shoot twice a month around here. It's a great family sport. We shoot .45s and .38s and you wont see any small bullets except for my 13 year old Rhinestone Rachel who shoots .32 Ruger Birdshead Single Sixes & a Henry .22 lever action. You get to dress the part then go out for lunch on the way home & cause a stir. Lookin' good and havin' fun that's what it's all about. Don't forget your alias - Cherokee Slim (Because I am, and I'm not)
  15. I was rear ended in a school zone today by a 17 year old girl texting. The accident was investigated by the Hamilton County SO. Not wanting any issues I told the first deputy that approached me that I had a pistol. He asked where it was, I told him right hip and he nicely/professionally asked me to let him have it until the investigation was finished. He cleared it in what even I (a hard nosed safety nut) would call an extremely safe manner. Then he laid the gun & my permit on the hood of his car. Three deputies and a chaplain were there and all were extremely professional and courteous. Zero issues about my gun except for how cool it was. (A Colt New Agent trough sight .45acp) When everything was over the deputy put my gun in my car and handed me the magazine and loose shell. They could not have been nicer. I was impressed. Bad circumstances, but excellent treatment by the deputies made a bad day a little better. Cherokee Slim
  16. I use the Remora with mine. It really doesn't move with a smaller handgun at all. I keep expecting to hear a thud as the LC9 falls to the floor at church but it just doesn't move. Cherokee Slim
  17. My 13 year old youngest grandaughter Rhinestone Rachel, shoots one with Peters lead LR bullets in Cowboy matches. It doesn't make much noise so I would think with shorts you could shoot it out the back door and not bother neighbors. It came out of the box working flawlessly. Her rifle strings, 10 shots each stage, are pretty fast and it has never jammed in any way. Cherokee Slim
  18. I used a Colt Mk4 Series 70 .45acp. My wife, daughters and their husbands all used S&W .38s of one model or another. I saw every kind of revolver & auto you can think of used. More .22s than I would have thought. Cherokee Slim
  19. Shooter's Depot at Hwy 153 & Shallowford road advertises a gunsmith. I don't know who he is but I would expect him to be the same quality as the other people there. I have also heard Gunslingers & VOW have done good work. This would make a good sticky thread as others have looked before. I don't know how it's done. Post your results please. It seems I'm always breaking or losing something and have to send it off somewhere. Added - Here is another thread here with good info - http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/gunsmithing-troubleshooting/62531-comprehenisve-tennessee-gunsmith-list.html Cherokee Slim
  20. Shotguns do occasionally blow up. I was on a posse at the state championships at Wartrace this year when a nice double barrel blew the barrels off. Scared the crap out of all of us but nobody got hurt. I've also seen the barrel plugged with dirt blow. It's not a pretty sight. Cherokee Slim
  21. I worked in Latin America for over 30 years and have had dog many times. All those cute little puppies you see visiting remote tribes on your church's mission trip . . . . That's just keeping the meat fresh until it's needed. The reduction in the size of hunting lands for those groups who historically hunted for food has forced the indians to adapt. Restrictive gun laws have taken away shotguns from many groups that used them ever since they were first introduced. Blowguns with poison tip darts are back replacing guns. The dog meat I've always had was spiced up in tacos or something so the taste wasn't that bad. "Cabron" is indeed a word you don't use in polite company, but you will find it on menus in finer restaurants. It is just an older goat. Cabeza de Cabron or head of goat is something some gringo always ordered just for the yuck factor. Cherokee Slim
  22. - 43 years of marital bliss - she has her own guns - I clean them all BECAUSE I only exist to serve her. (You caught the 43 years part, right?) Cherokee Slim
  23. This is a gun that many Cowboys shoot. Four in my family shoot 2 SASS matches each month with our .357 Marlin. We load truncated cone bullets for fast feeding and seldom have a malfunction. They come up for sale regularly on the SASS forum and sometimes on the Ocoee Rangers (Cleveland area) forum. Depending on where you live I would look at the local Cowboy club forums to find one. Cherokee Slim
  24. I found that my Colt New Agent & my 1911 fit into the Remora holster I got for my LC9. It was a surprise but a good one for once. Cherokee Slim
  25. +1 for this scale. We weigh every 10th round coming out of my Dillon just to make sure they are all close to the same. I've been happy with mine. I got it from Midway. Cherokee Slim
