  6. I'm going to try a blackpowder 50cal and see what happens 223 223 merkel 270 single shot.
  7. I’ve killed two in one shot with a 6.5 twice. Shoulder, head, ear, face it’ll do fine. killed them with about every type of 6.5 bullet too. I’ve also had them run off with about every gun I have as well. Had one I shot this year with a 7mm mag run off with part of the lung recovered on the ground, while I stacked up 7 with Winchester 223 55gr fmj’s. Makes me wonder what the heck I’m doing some days
  8. Merkel 270 though I think I've smoked more pigs with it than deer

  13. Yeah It was fun to change things up. Now those Kentucky long rifles are looking pretty cool too! I think I'll be able to go down Turkey hunting in April and after the turkey hunt I'm definitely going to go stalk for some hogs. Just gotta watch out for snakes Will have pics for sure. My brother was saying I need to get a buck skin suit hah
  14. So another day socked in and not flying therefore range time. I’ve got this thing shooting great at 50 and my first shot at 100 was an inch left then second was a minute of pig low. I also reduced the charge to 80 grains. This thing is good to go now, I’m pumped
  15. I figured I was doing something wrong. raise the rear sight to raise POI… not sure what I was thinking
  16. Very informative! That makes sense on why a shotgun works. I’ll figure out the rear sight, it’s been fun getting this gun going. It’s giving me something to do besides flying in the off season.
  17. 10-4. Yeah I think I'm fast approaching that point I can dab some white nail polish or something on the front sight to help but I'll likely pop one pig or something next year and go well that was fun and put it up.... or I'll get hooked hah. I've had this thing forever and haven't ever taken the time to get it dialed in so trying now.
  18. I got my hawken shooting pretty good at 50 yards and hitting a pie plate at 100. However the rear sight is completely bottomed out and I've filed down the front sight to the point I'm basically seeing a tiny nub above the rear sight base. It'd be pretty hard in any sort of slightly low light situation like a 5:00pm in the afternoon deer hunt light. I'm going to go back to the range without a rear sight but I almost think if it's like bow hunting and I get the same anchor point, I won't need one.... kinda like my shot gun which just a bead. Anyways, should be interesting. If it doesn't work out, I've ordered a Lyman flip up sight but need to cut a dove tail. I'll end up taking it to a gunsmith because I don't have the files to cut one myself. Also, if ya'll see any issues here, I'm Shooting hornady 490 round ball, .010 lubed patch, 90grains of pydrodex rs, #11 CCI caps.
  19. Got it cleaned up and ready to go. Now I just need some time to hit the range. Gonna be Jeremiah Johnson next year at the farm!
  20. My new job got pushed up to may and I've got to do a bunch of flying then go to training so I don't think I'm going to be hunting for awhile. Reluctantly putting these up for sale. Had the r25 about a week and the r35 since June 3 2021. I had r35 zero'd on a 6.8 and the r25 on a 223. I started Scanning with the r35 and using it to walk up on pigs, put in my jacket pocket and shoot with the r25. Really good combo and I've got photos of bunch of pigs down. I'll probably end up buying these again in a year or so once I get my new scheduled figured out but gotta pay for the flight hours in between! R25 $1950 shipped R35 $2400 Shipped
  21. I ordered a new front sight from track of the wolf so worst case I’ll do a redo!
  22. It is also shooting like 8 inches low at 25 yards with 80-90 grains of Pyrodex RS (ffg) 490 ball with .01 patch. I'm wondering if it's not getting good ignition with the old nipple and caps. I got new powder the other day and after a few shots there was definitely a lot of unburnt powder. We'll see with a new nipple and able to clean it all out properly. I've ordered new patches, balls, caps and cleaning supplies. I have heard with the cabala's investarm 50 cal's you may have to file down the front sight as well to get it shooting right.
  23. What do ya'll use for loading powder in the field?
