OK, I'm going to be placing an order for some powder for stocking up pretty soon, my question is this. Is it best to limit the number of different powders you have on hand to limit confusion? I would say yes. This is what I am loading for or will be loading for soon Using Titegroup for these: .40S&W 9mm .44spl/mag (may use H110 for this and the .25-20 below) I am not currently loading for the following but I am getting setup to do so, looking at using H4198 .30-30 .223/5.56 .25-20 (or H110 w/ the .44) H380 or H414 for 300 Win Mag I am not set on the powders, but the place I am going to order from has each of these in stock currently. So for the reloaders out there, pros and cons of consolidating the powder I use to 3 or 4 different types. TIA

PIF: Handful of 38 S&W cases (NOT 38 Spcl!)
kckndrgn replied to musicman's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I could exchange you some .38spl/.357mag brass for those .38 S&W, if you would do shipping. I've got a bunch of 38/357 but nothing that will shoot it. Though I don't YET load for the the .38 S&W I do have an old break-away revolver that is chambered in it. -
I have the G27, a friend of mine has a G27 and his wife has the G26. I love the G27 for concealabilty. I also have the G23 (and G22) and I find it's a bit harder for me to conceal. I don't mind my pinky not being on the grip, I just "got used" to it. I do have a few +1 mags, but I preferr to practice the way I carry, and that is with a factory 9 round magazine. As far as price, I know you can get one in Memphis for around $480 + tax & BC (that's for either G26 or 27)

I use a galco UDC (ultra deep cover) for my G27 The wife uses a Don Hume holster, don't remember the model but it is an excellent holster for the price

ICE? what ice? If it drops below freezing tonight Memphis will be in for a doozy, but for now, it's still raining around here.

Since you were denied on the BC, the store you were at should have either given you or filled out an appeal form (you will need the TICS number of your denial to complete the form, the gun store should have a copy of it). Fill that out, fax it in. As was mentioned above, most of the denials are reversed, usually within a day or two. You can run your own BC as mentioned above to find out what triggered the denial, then go about getting it actually "expunged" from your record. Hopefully your appeal process will be quick!

Since getting mine back from Henry, it has eaten everything. I fired the first 50 or so rounds of CCI mini-mag, then went to Federal & Remington Bulk packs. So far no problems. I got my rifle knowing it didn't work, but for the price I figured I really didn't have much to loose ($10.00). When I sent Henry an email describing the problem, I even included the fact I bought it used and in a non-working condition. They still fixed it free of charge. One thing the owners manual says is to not feed it "hyper-velocity" ammo, the gun came with a 1/2 box of this type of ammo. Also, this is second hand information so take it for what it's worth, if you have a Henry U.S. Survival rifle the AR-7 hi-cap mags will NOT work. Henry apparently changed the mag design somewhat. I got this info from another msg board I'm on, so again, take it for what it's worth.

Yup, I dealt with the president as well when I sent mine back. Took about 3 weeks, got it back and it's worked flawlessly since hopefully yours will come back in working order as well.

Is there ever "enough"?

Model 1894 Winchester 25-35
kckndrgn replied to Ernest.T.Bass's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
Check here: http://www.e-gunparts.com/dept.asp I have an old Marlin 1894 chamberd in 25-20 and I got most of the parts I needed to fix her up from these guys. I've heard some people complain they got the wrong part and they were slow on shipping, but (knock on wood) I've had fast shipping and all the correct parts came in. Midway USA may have some parts as well, but usually not too many for an older gun. Good luck with your rebuild BTW, my .25-20 was built somewhere between 1898 and 1905 and was my Great-Grandmothers gun that was used to put food on the table. My next step is to send the barrel off to get it relined as there is NO rifling left in the barrel. -
OUCH!!! Did something similar a couple of years ago. I was turning some wood on a lathe and, well lets just say I was doing something I should have and the spinning wood mashed the tool to the tool rest with my thumb in between! Thought I broke it for sure, nope, but I did loose the nail, and no I didn't have it poked to relieve the pressure. Hope you heal quickly - and don't do that again!!

Define "stockpile" and I'll let you know if what I have qualifies

Those are FUNNY, I'm going there now to waste my last 25 min of work
-
That sucks, hope the pain goes away soon!

My "almost all the time carry" is my G27 in a Galco UDC tuckable holster (though I have never tucked a shirt in). My other gun that is carried quite frequently is a G23, usually in a BH Serpa holster.

db99wj, I'll be doing some loading up Wed night if you want to come over and see just how easy it is. Some ranges it's ok to pick up brass some might not allow it at all, while other will say, pick up only your brass. Cost effective if you have to purchase your own? Yes, it is just not as much. However, since you can reload the same brass several times (the number of times will depend on how hot you load), if you can reclaim all of your used brass then the cost for that brass would be spread out. Here's a need tool for calculating how long it will take you to recoup the cost of your setup: http://10xshooters.com/calculators/Handgun_Reloading_Cost_Calculator.htm

you should be able to click on the red "ABP" stop sign and get a drop down menu. Select "disable on golsn.com" then refresh the page. This just happened with the latest update of ABP, for the minor inconvenience once in a while like this, I don't mind blocking the hundreds of ad's that otherwise would be displayed.

Yes, there is a form to fill out by the FFL holder if a person is purchasing 2 or more handguns, or if they have purchased 2 or more handguns in the last 5 business days. So, theoretically if you purchase 2 handguns today, the form should be filled out. If you purchase a handgun on Monday then another on Wednesday (from the same dealer) the form should be filled out and it will include both handguns. Since there's really nothing on there that requires any interaction from the purchaser, these forms may be filled out without you knowing it, lovely huh?

Yes, I've seen "Off the Grid" on Planet Green Channel (or is it Green Planet Channel), then found a version of it on google video is is longer. He sells the show from his website as well.
-
Seen them, yes, used them no. I did see an episode of Survivorman use one. Looks neat, but one of those "learn to use it before you need it" items.
-
Oh, it does work nice. I got one of the magnesium/flint combos from Walmart. I figured I'd learn how to use it BEFORE I NEEDED/HAD to use it.

I keep at least 3 ways to light a fire. Bic - cheap, readily available, Strike anywhere matches, and flint/steel combo. I also keep some cotton balls that are "soaked" in Vaseline in my car bag and with my gear. The Vaseline will keep the cotton burning for awhile and will light slightly damp tinder. When using the cotton balls "fluff one up and put some tinder on it. Works like a charm.
