  1. Buy a fixer-upper and save some money. If you can look past the ugly shag carpet and save $10k. you can afford brand new carpet for the whole house. That ugly wallpaper comes off in an afternoon of work, and the new paint looks great. Try to look past the cosmetic stuff. Some things are surprisingly easy to fix or replace yourself. Don't buy the best house on the block, you'll never get your money back. Buy the cheapest house on the block and fix it up, you'll get a bunch of equity right away.

Go after a good hard rain and look for water in the basement. Loof for water spots on the ceiling, an indication of a roof leak.

Look at the labels on the HVAC. Usually the serial number starts with the year it was made. If it's 10 years old, it may need replacing soon.

Pay attention to the windows. If they are old they may need to be replaced. At the very least your energy costs may go up.

Look at the appliances too. Make sure they are up to date. These are easy to replace, so use them as a bargaining tool to get a better price.

Don't forget to consider insurance and taxes when calculating your monthly payment. Prepare to choke on all the fees you'll get charged at closing. Try really hard to get a 15 year mortgage. If you absolutely cant afford that ask about a 20 year. You'll save thousands in intrest, and get a better rate.

Also TAKE THE TITLE INSURANCE. It's cheap and if you have a problem it's covered. I bought a forclosure and the title insurance was a few hundred bucks. I got a letter from the previous owners bank saying the owner had not paid on a home equity loan that the house was collateral on, and they were putting a lien on the house. I called the title company and they took care of everything.

If the house is in a cookie cutter subdivision with a rectangular lot, a survey is not really needed, unless you just have to know who's side of the property line the fence is on. If you buy one in the country with a big odd shaped, get the survey.

    Good luck

 The above saved me a lot of typing, lol. Spot on !

Personally I focused more on land. They're not making more of it, in MOST cases it will always be worth what you paid and appreciate in value over the long haul, and depending on the criteria you might be able to swing a farm loan which in some cases has a better interest rate and lower down payment % than a bank. I say SOME cases because a year ago my bank was lower on interest rate, closing cost, and length of loan as compared to FCS (Farm Credit Services) but that was due in part to the house and land being looked at.

We waited years for the right deal to come along and just socked away $$$ best we could. With the economy the way it is we scanned every foreclosure site we could looking for the best deal. So the best advice is to be patient.

    GOOD LUCK !

  2. Well, what ya expect? A couple of ole scatter guns, and maybe a well worn riffle is all ya need around the farm! After all Charlie don't even have a gun rack in the back winder of his truck! :):D

    LMAO !

  3. Solution. Send me the SP101, then you won't have to be worried about needing a matching rifle. :D

Agreed. The best way to help an addict is to remove the item(s) causing the addiction ;)

  4. Well by "no luck" I mean it didn't brigthen it back up in the slightest bit. As far as the current finish on the gun it's pretty much in line with what I've read and saw online. It has a cloudy hazed finish on most of the gun. No pitting, no flaking, the metal itself is flawless just cloudy. I removed the grips and shot a couple "before" photos so if it did work I would have future reference material. The finish under the grips is like it should be, like a mirror. But it's like looking at a clean glass beside one with soap scum compared to under the grips.

I am a little suspicous of the mothers anyway. I've used their product before and it was never this thin. Their polish always have some body to it and thickness and this stuff was like water. I am tempted to go back to Autozone and pop the top on another bottle just to see if I got a expired bottle or something, lol. Just my luck.

  5. Just picked up a nickel wheel gun and it's a bit dull here and there. So I started researching on how to bring that shine back and like all things opinions are varied as well as what products to get the best results.

Many advise to use something called FLITZ but use it lightly, only when neccesary, and in moderation. Others suggest Mothers (tried the chrome polish last night...no luck !) and others suggest a homemade concoction of lemon juice and various household chemicals.

So as usual I am turning to the fellow TGO crew for help.

I have a nickel gun that has lost it's shine......what do I do now ? I don't want to take it back down to copper and while I would love to re-nickel the entire gun that's not only overkill but I am sure not worth the expense.

And for those suggesting FLITZ please let me know where I might pick up this product locally (Knoxville area) as I've been unsuccessful in tracking it down thus far.

  6. What's the story with a wasr. There's one down the road here for $525. What would anyone recommend for under $600 and best quality.

While not being an expert I know some of the WASR's run fine while others are junk. I don't recall at this very moment but there's a certain number WASR you can get that's either good or junk, lol. Never bothered to learn the number because there are far too many others to be had.

You can get into a good MAK-90 for under $600 you just have to be willing to sit and wait.

And just like Smith was saying the vz58 is awesome unfortunately everything on it is proprietary.

  7. I live 2 minutes from the Morristown Gun show. I went last time and it was not worth the money. If you want to go stand outside and see what the traders have, that might or might not work, but it wasn't worth the money I paid to get in last time.

Ain't it the truth. The best money spent last time I attended the "fire hall" show was the breakfast I took in before arriving.

While I did pick up a rare rifle there many many moons ago I'm hesistant about donating to it again.

Pigeon Forge show sounds like the sports card shows they use to hold there. Everyone is scattered throughout the mall and deals are few and far between.

  8. Sure there will be overpriced stuff just as there is at EVERY single show you attend but you just have to look past that.

There's usually some pretty good deals to be had depending on what you define as a "deal".

The crowd was impressive last time me and a fellow TGO'er attended.

Be sure and watch for the pinhooker that repetitively uses "whatcha got there neighbor" or

"hey neighbor". If you get bored you can stand outside and watch him sprint from one side of the

parking lot to the other hoping for that pinhooker payday.

But it is the meadow view show at Kingsport and I will be there with bells on.

  9. For anyone interested in attending I have the dinner tickets and raffle tickets (for the AK & 1911) IN HAND. I always try and help out Tom and the others that put this show on. For those of you that haven't been:

The $35 dinner ticket gets you a buffet style meal usually containing 2 meats, several veggies to choose from, dessert, salad, and a choice of water, tea, or coffee to drink.

You are also automatically entered to win an EAA EZ 9mm but you must be present to win this. All transfers are done by Sevier Indoor Range and they do an excellent job at getting you checked and on your way.

The raffle tickets I have are for a chance to win a NodakSpud AK or a Spingfield Armory 1911 .45. You have 3 ways to buy this year. A single ticket is $4, or buy 3 tickets for $10, or buy 7 tickets for $20. Both guns will be raffled off so you basically have 2 chances to win with every ticket. Plus you don't have to be there to win (Although you will have to travel to Sevier Indoor Range to see Wayne and register your gun)

There will also be games to play where you win tickets and those are drawn out later for a chance to win a prize. Some of the prizes will be firearms but all are usually firearm related.

There will also be an auction with a wide array of items some of which are donated by area shops.

Looking at the brochure I was given here are some of the guns that will be there to be won through the games or bid on through the auction.

    NodakSpud AK ( raffle tickets)

    Springfield 1911 (raffle tickets)

    EAA EZ (Dinner Ticket)

    Smith & Wesson M&P 15-22 NRA Logo

Kahr Arms CW9093 9mm NRA Logo

Savage 93R17 .17 HMR NRA Logo

Taurus M44 Tracker .44 mag NRA Logo

Ruger M77 Hawkeye 7mm-08 NRA Logo

Weatherby PA-459 12 gauge pump NRA Logo

1911 Colt .45 NRA Centennial Edition (freaking SWEET :(!!)

Items in the auction include something for all ages. From a limited Case knife, deer blind, shooting rest or NRA duffle for you, to a nice set of mounted antlers or some exclusive artwork for your wife to hang in the den ;), to a limited Red Ryder bb gun , beeman air rifle, or NRA custom trike for your lil' one.

P.M. me if you're interested and want to meet up to purchase a dinner ticket or if you want to enter to win the AK or 1911 and don't want to attend the dinner.

  10. Tell you what I noticed was people with BO. I mean just plain stinky, smelly people. Good god do people quit bathing in Knoxville in the winter?

I don't think the weather has anything to do with it.....sadly.

I've been walking through that show in the middle of march and people still reek !

I guess you can call me weird but I try not to leave the house with a case of rotten crotch. And smelling like a turd doesn't make someone's turd deal more appealing !!

  11. I've found the more "convenient" the food the worse it's going to be for you. I stopped eating at the golden arches years ago. Immediately after it was released that all the beef ( if you can consider it that) used in their burgers came from Brazil, which ironically was just named as the #1 supplier of beef to the U.S. fast food industry.

And don't even get me started about food from local supermarkets. Coming from someone that's in a grocery store at least 6 days out of 7 it's not surprising at all to me that the health of the population is where it's at.

Your best bet is to go back to tending your own garden or if you are in the city or in a situation where you can't / don't know how/ don't have time to do a garden then get out into the country and get signed up on a local farmers crop co-op. They will provide you once a week or bi-week with fresh local produce during the peak time of the year for a fee you pay at the beginning of the season. Here local we have a farmer that makes a basket of all he grows which you can stop in once a week and pick up. Initially it sounded expensive but after doing the math you will save a lot of money and you can talk to the guy that grew it.

I know the blame is thrown around but my personal opinion is big brother should take all the blame for this. I was born and raised in the country and remain here today. I've seen giant farms/dairies disappear because the gvt. has interacted in one way or another. Why do you think the number of local dairies has dwindled to nothing and of all places Kommifornia is now considered the "motherland" of milk and cheese ?!?!?

I'll shut up, this subject gets me raw real quick.

  12. Thats about the outcome of most of this promoters shows that I've been to. I can pretty much cover the floor in less than 30 minutes. But I usually find something worthy of deeming it a neccesary trip and attendance fee. Besides that he makes sure to get the coupons out there so you can have a buck off.

  13. 3 dealers or 3 indiduals with tables at a show?

They were all "private collectors" as the OP stated in his original thread. It's my understanding that a true "dealer" can buy/sell/trade when and where they please. But I've heard numerous times in the past where "private collectors/private sellers/those that have purchased tables to sell from but are not FFL's" are discouraged from taking in a trade or even an outright purchase and placing it back on the table for sale in the same day much less immediately.

The 3 I am talking about were what you would consider "private fill in the blank " but were not ffl's.
