  1. I am a former (thankfully) MA resident. You are correct that the AG can't create new law. What she has done is issue a "directive" to clarify (her) interpretation of the law, which is really the only one that matters ultimately because she's the one who'd bring charges. So yesterday the AG said that AR's and the like have always been illegal since the MA assault weapon ban of 1994, and that the state compliant versions that have always been sold there were never legal to begin with. She says she isn't going to go after individual gun owners who bought under the impression they were legal (isn't she nice?), or go after the FFLs for same reason. The "directive" on the AWB is similar to what the last AG did with Glocks. Dealers cannot, or are not supposed to, sell Gen 3 or higher Glocks because of handgun safety standards in the state that the Glock apparently doesn't pass. So AG threatens dealers and manufacturers with fines, lawsuit etc. The dealers can't risk their business so most comply. MA is lost cause when it comes to firearms laws. There isn't enough pro gun people in the general population to get things done legislatively. Most state lawmakers are anti gun.
  2. Thanks! Yeah not surprised I guess. My own searching didn't turn up much so kind of figured there wasn't much around.
  3. I think they look great and am indifferent to the manufacturer. My vote is for the 20 oz size.
  4. Hey y'all I recently moved from Franklin area over to Bellevue (Highway 100 area). Looking for ideas on outdoor ranges as I'm not familiar with the ranges out this way. I'm a member down at Strategic Edge in Chapel Hill, but given that it's now an hour ride each way I will probably only be making that trip once every couple months if I'm realistic. Any good ranges around my area? Only one that comes to mind is Hafner range in Franklin, but that is maxed out at 100 yards.
  5. Well, you are certainly free to your opinion. I'm not sure how you can guarantee you won't ever be near water or dirt in a defensive situations (?). I saw that video and was surprised at the results myself. But, HK had to cut corners on some aspects of that gun to make it affordable and not with their usual $1000 price tag. I like the gun but would only use it for range fun. As he states in the MAC video, that VP9 would fail military trails as they do much worse to the guns than he did.
  6. 1. Used value hard to pin down exactly, but since you can buy a brand new 6920 Magpul edition for around $1000 (just checked gunbroker), I'd guess a few hundred less than that. Needs to be a big enough gap in price otherwise people will just buy a new one. 2. I think the MLOK system is starting to win out market share wise over keymod. Plus, Magpul lets other companies use MLOK for free, so they don't have to pay to use the the technology. 3. Grips are personal choice so just try them out. I personally prefer the AFG. 4. No idea on quality over the years. Maybe someone else can chime in.
  7. Yeah I was wondering as well.
  8. If it's only a 300 yards or under gun then don't waste weight on a variable zoom optic. There is no need for an optic that size unless you're going for precision target shooting. For just hitting steel, a micro red dot like the Trijicon MRO, Aimpoint Micro or anything similar will do just fine.
  9. Yeah I saw that too. Great gun as long as you don't get it dirty or wet! http://youtu.be/vOu5ZGfgtVk
  10. Hah, gun??? More like plural..."guns".
  11. I thought the exact same thing when I heard this the other day.
  12. The bill didn't make it if of committee, so not happening. I'm sure they'll give it a another try sooner or later but agree with poster above that Haslam would probably veto it anyways.
  13. Agreed. They are basically to keep small kids out. A thief would just take the whole damn box and open it later. Even if it's secured to a floor or wall the mounting hardware is small and it can just be ripped off the floor or wall very easily. Even expensive gun safes will be defeated by determined thieves, especially if that's the sole reason they broke in to begin with.
  14. First off, while this was a completely idiotic decision on their part, you have to feel bad for this dude in some capacity. Lucky his friends weren't hurt along with him. Second...liberal anti-tannerite bill is being written as we speak.
  15. They can't stop Obama from appointing someone, but they can certainly block confirming that appointment. And I'm sure they will. Chris Wallace made an interesting point this morning on Fox News. The current Congress ends on Jan 2 of next year. Obama is President until like Jan 17 or something like that, potentially giving him about a two week window to make a recess appointment as he walks out the door. Would not be surprised.
  16. Agreed. This is the dumbest excuse I've ever heard. It's either a lie, or the person doing the "cleaning" is a negligent moron with no clue on gun safety or how a gun operates. I mean, how do you not only not safety check the weapon, but then also pull the trigger?!
  17. Having money in your bank account is wasting your money's earnings power. So don't take that route if you have extra laying around. At least put it into something with a low yield return so you get something for it, and also have access to it if you need cash quickly. As far as investing it, if the present value of your mortgage interest savings is greater than the estimated return on the investments, then mortgage is way to go. If vice versa, the opposite is true. Basically, in my opinion, you're not going to hit it in out of the park investing about an extra $1200 a year in equities at the market return (and you may even lose money). I'd throw it at your mortgage, but that's just me. That's not to say you shouldn't have some money I the market. If you're saving for retirement that is also a consideration. Finding a good financial advisor helps as they do these calculations all the time. Trick is finding a good, honest one who isn't just trying to sell you their funds and actually cares about your future. They do exist, just need to do your due diligence.
  18. Sounds like sloppy and lazy management was the root cause. They will just put in for a new FFL under someone else's name and carry on.
  19. I just moved here from New England and love the warmth so far, though I realize it's unseasonably warm even for here. For those that want cold, go spend a week in New England in mid winter. You'll get your fill fast. Now as for summer, I'm sure I'll be complaining as I've never dealt with the heat down south. If we got three consecutive days over 90 up there it was an official "heat wave". Not sure if it's defined the same everywhere, but you get the idea.
  20. I wouldn't be concerned with that. L-3 is a huge operation and EOTech is just one product they make. Plus, a lot of gun owners who own them will probably never even hear about the refund/lawsuit to begin with.
  21. I agree with the sentiment that most of us aren't using these sights than anymore than a range toy. I had and EOTech and sold it, but still liked it overall. I think the biggest downside is the possibility that there isn't any support structure in place should L3 shutter that part of the business. Would suck to need warranty work and not have the manufacturer or division still in place to provide service.
  22. Hey guys. Not sure if someone has already thrown this out there (didn't see anything), but I saw on Larry Vicker's Facebook page that EOTech is issuing full refunds on their optics now due to the mess they're in with the government lawsuit. Here's a link: http://soldiersystems.net/2015/12/08/l3-communications-eotech-issuing-refunds-for-holographic-weapon-sights/ Saw some posts on M4carbine forum and apparently guys have been getting return authorizations for sights that are years old (think I saw one guy say they are taking back his 2007 sight). http://www.m4carbine.net/showthread.php?177173-EOTech-Issuing-Refunds/page4 Anyway, just an FYI in case anyone wants to go that route.
  23. I have an Orvis bison skin wallet. Nice but a little pricey (like all Orvis stuff). Made in USA which is nice.
