Glock 43 Magazine Extensions
Bassoneer replied to Bassoneer's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I do prefer the way the Pearce grips look with the Glock. They are the same style and material as the gun - same type of texture. They just seem to look right. The Tarans are reportedly very high quality, but they look like a big aluminum block under the gun (refer to first post for photo). If one works and the other doesn't, then end of discussion. Apparently the Tarans are very reliable. I have not shot with the Pearce extensions yet, but I am predicting they do very well. So more to come after I get to the range...B -
Got to drink some of the 10-year Old Rip Van Winkle this afternoon...got some nice leaded crystal glasses and some huge ice cube trays for Christmas! What a day...sitting out on the deck playing cards and drinking bourbon on 12/26!!! Thanks again to Mike 357 for introducing us to the Van Winkle stuff - very good. B

Glock 43 Magazine Extensions
Bassoneer replied to Bassoneer's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
I installed two Pearce +1 magazine extensions for my Glock 43 this morning. Fit is perfect. Was fairly easy to do thanks to YouTube. I'll send lots of rounds downrange before I trust them for carrying, but they look good. B -
My wife and I stopped by Bob's Package Store today and met Mike357. Super guy...glad we finally got to meet. He sold us some Vodka and Bourbon. The Bourbon that we purchased was Rip Van Winkle...can't wait to try it out over the holidays. Thanks Mike!!! B

Shots fired at Academy on Kingston pike cedar Bluff.
Bassoneer replied to G27ATT's topic in General Chat
My wife and I were at Walmart in Turkey Creek earlier in the afternoon. When we came out, there were several police cars (some unmarked with blue lights flashing) surrounding a truck in the parking lot - I assume this was the shoplifting task force. I was parked right next to the chaos, but was able to squeeze through the police cars to leave. I wonder if this was the same shoplifting task force that was at Acacemy...I suppose it is the time of year for shoplifters. B -
Has anybody tried the new Pearce +1 extensions for Glock 43 magazines? Goes from 6+1 to 7+1. I ordered a couple...much cheaper than the Taran Tactical models. First, here is a shot of the Taran Tactical Extension...second photo shows the Pearce extension.

We have had both docked and non docked. The one with docked ears was a rescue dog and one ear stood up and the other one did not. With these two dobies, we sort of "settled" on not getting them docked and now I am used to it. I could go either way...but the tails have to go. As much as those rear ends wag I think the tail would do some damage :). B

This is our blue dobie, Holly This is Holly's younger brother, Axl. He is now at 100 pounds and bigger than his sister! And here is the full grown Axl in his natural habitat!

David, we got our blue girl right around Christmas four years ago. Due to the timing we named her Holly. We got her younger brother (a black one) about six months later. Dobies are the best dogs ever! We took Holly through obedience school, but not her brother (Axl). Now that they are 4 and 3.5 years old we are going through obedience school, ha. They are picking up on things...extremely smart breed. That is a very cute one you have there. B

Thinking about moving from .40 to 9mm ...
Bassoneer replied to Peace's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I've tried most of the major calibers and have sold them all and settled on 9mm Glocks (19 and 43). Still have some .38/.357's for revolvers, but sold the .40's and .45's for 9mm. I finally realized that I could hold more ammo, hit the target better, and still be just as effective (if not more) using the 9mm rounds. Nothing wrong with .40 or .45, but I prefer the 9mm. B -
Hornady Critical Defense is awesome! That's what I have loaded right now. Very powerful. It has something similar to Federal's flite control plastic cup that seems to keep it together. Very, very impressive ammo for a 12 Gage! B

I have the Bond Arms Ranger 2 and really like it. Carry it in the woods, but also have carried it for SD. I actually carried it to the NRA show in April...met the president of the company. Very high quality firearms. For snakes they recommend .45LC snake shot but I have not found any. I normally carry #4 bird shot (high brass). For SD I have 3" 000 buckshot from Federal. It kicks like a SOB. If you shoot little airweight revolvers, it is a little worse than that. At 10 yards it will cover about 7-8". Top cylinder fires high, bottom cylinder fires low but it all stays on a paper target. I also have some Winchester silver tip .45LC that I like. Lots of ammo, types sizes and variety. It is a little heavy but the Bond Arms Driving (BAD) holster is easy to conceal and awesome for driving...seat belt is not in the way. Good luck with it, B

OK, I'm not really a knife guy, even though I have a lot of knives. But that is absolutely gorgeous. I can't imagine one better looking anywhere. B

I think for folks coming from a revolver background shooting the 642-type (lightweight) guns, they will find the 43 easier to shoot. You should already be used to not having your pinky on the grip (unless you got a longer grip, which some do)...but I really don't find the 43 to have as much kick as those little 642's. Of course the 642 with +P is just plain awful pain to shoot...love the gun, hate the recoil. So, moving from that to the 43 is a very pleasant move. I have mine loaded with Speer Gold Dot 124 +P. Hundreds and hundreds of rounds down range, various types of ammo, zero malfunctions. Best wishes, B

Love the 43. I have the 19 by the bed, and carry the 43. I had it in my front pocket almost all day yesterday and never once thought about it being there...just slips in there and disappears in an Alabama pocket holster (check out HIckok 45's Youtube review). You can get some extensions for the magazines from Taran Tactical but I have not tried them yet (again, check out Hickock 45's YouTube review...I believe the second one on the 43 covers this). Great photography skills! B

I also just got a Glock 43 and really like it...also considering lasers and lights...hope you get some good input...B

Pachmayr Diamond Pro Grips for the Ruger GP100
Bassoneer replied to polecat's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I've got the same grips on my S&W 686 and like them a lot. I've got nice wood grips, but these feel great and fit my hand much better. That's a nice GP100 by the way. B -
Oh Shoot, as I said the CM9 is a good gun. Point is the Glock 43 is very easy for me to pocket carry. So is the 642. B

I finally got my kydex pocket holster for my Glock 43 (Alabama Holster Co). I have carried in my front pocket (shorts) for two days and it was very comfortable...didn't even think about it being there. Standing, sitting and driving in the car...no issues. For several years I pocket-carried my S&W 642 revolver and this is approximately the same size (maybe thinner) and it holds more ammo. So...I really think I am going to prefer this little Glock 43 for front pocket carry. I think I'll keep the 642 in rotation from time-to-time, but the Glock 43 is now in the starting line-up for front pocket carry. Some folks have stated concerns that the G43 is too big for pocket carry. I have not found that to be the case at all. If you have any concerns, go to a gun store and ask if they will let you try it (as I did). It is a little longer than a PM9 (I have tried the PM9 and it is a reliable gun)...but again, if you ever pocket-carried the little S&W revolvers you will lover the G43. Very cool and reliable little gun. Best Wishes, B

My son and I walked up there last weekend...I had to stop many, many times due to the steep walk. Very beautiful view. Best wishes, B

That sounds like a lot, but everything you described turned out positive which is awesome. Glad that bad stuff has been taken out of you and now you can heal. My dad had some similar things happen with his colon and he is doing well now. Praise God for your surgeons (they sound awesome) and your continued healing...B

First time for Appendix Carry - Is it safe?
Bassoneer replied to Bassoneer's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
"One way of carrying that has intrigued me a lot as of late is on my left side at about 10 or 11 in a cross draw type setup. Would make it easier to draw while seated, like in a vehicle, and probably no harder when not in a seated position. It would also be easier for me to conceal it as well but that is a minor concern at best because most people would never notice me carrying on my side." I have a Bond Arms Ranger II that came with a driving holster that fits on the left side for cross draw. Very comfortable. B -
I carried a gun (inside the waist band) in the 1-2 O'Clock position today (i.e., appendix carry). Was comfortable and I didn't think about it being there...until I sat down. It still didn't bother me physically, but the gun was pointed at my femoral artery which made me very nervous! I know a young person who accidentally shot himself right there and very quickly passed away. I read a couple of articles and people were debating back and forth...seems to be a much-used and highly-liked method for concealed carry, but all seemed to agree it comes with a risk and you need to be even more careful than any other method of carry. Mostly when putting your gun in the holster...but always keep away from the trigger and keep it covered 100%. Oh well...it went well and the equipment is good so maybe I'll get used to it...just wondered how common this is in east Tennessee. Thanks, B
