  1. Sorry to sound like a dumb a$$ but...a Saiga from RAA is just an non-converted rifle?
  2. Any opinions on the quality of rifles that come from RAA? I'm looking to buy a 5.45x39 for around $400 and then convert it. Also is there a difference in quality between rifles from RAA and Arsenal? Thanks.
  3. When people say the rifle was converted what do they mean?
  4. What is the Alumni Weekend?
  5. Might be too far away but check this out Israeli Combat Training I went to one of his classes and between the Krav Maga drills and pistol shooting I had a great (and sweaty!) day.

    Dog Food

A few years ago I had to put my 15 year old Springer down...damn, I cried like a baby. Swore I'd never get another. Till my wife and son wore me down. The new pooch is 20 pounds and we buy some crazy crap from Dizzy's Dog wash in Nashvillle. I do love our new dog. Funny how the animal wraps itself around your heart.
  7. I might have to plagiarize your signature. lol.
  8. Thanks OhShoot! He gave me the heads up about CDNN prices. I looked around and found CDNN had the best price: $589 for the Mini 14 tactical plus ~$18 shipping. I have ordered mine now I have the long wait to be shipped to my FFL.
  9. Not that I want one but it is interesting.
  10. Thanks for an articulate review. As a soon to be owner Mini 14 (tactical) owner I enjoyed your post.
  11. Glad that's cleared up.
  12. What is that? I assume it's a home made CYA thing.
  13. I may be selling my pistol to a TN resident and if I understand the law I can sell it to him without an FFL transfer. What I'm asking for here is some advice as far as my personal safety is concerned. I plan to exchange the gun for cash in a neutral (public) place. But I was wondering if anyone has any advice for me to keep it safe for both of us. Maybe it sounds paranoid but he know I have a gun and I know he'll have almost $500 on him so I figure we both want to be careful.
  14. Sorry about that OhShoot. I'm not sure where "old" came from...my bad.
  15. Sounds like true love...sniff...always chokes me up.
  16. I would like to thank everyone who responded. It made for some great reading. I especially would like to thank Old Shoot for his comments. While I don't always agree with the man I do appreciate his candid and direct to the point comments. I do own and love an AR. I soon will buy a Mini 14 and I may take it to a carbine class. As far as what I want out of the gun I'd have to say mainly homeland defense. Admittedly I am a lousy shot so if I can hit a zombie at 50 yards with iron sights while standing within 2 or 3 inches of my poi then I'm happy. Thanks again for some good reading. If, in a few months, I take a carbine class with a Mini I will post my AAR.
  17. Might be odd to ask but I'm thinking of buying one and was wondering if anyone has ever seen one at a defensive rifle class. I know most guys like the AR type and I do as well. But there is something that I really like about the Mini 14. I have taken a few pistol classes at CIS with Dustin and Todd (anyone hear from him lately?) and plan on taking a rifle class there in the spring. I suspect there would be mostly AR's and AK's there...would a Mini keep up? Thanks.
  18. Why wash your hands after dropping a steamer? (Tounge in cheek) In the world of aircraft maintenance you can tell the difference between a pilot and a mechanic in the bathroom. The pilot washes his hands after he goes and the and mechanic before. When a pilot sees that he may state "pilot's always wash up after they go" and the mechanic will state "mechanics don't pee on our hands".
  19. No matter what happens, if he losses his job and/or get so sued, at least he's alive.
