  1. I went and read the article from the NY Times in addition to the one referenced above. The Daily Caller completely took the article out of context. Their article is a bold faced lie similar to folks that demonize the NRA. The article talks about how to make it harder for terrorists to buy guns while having procedures and protections for those that wind up on it. This is the kind of article that I would like to see the liberals from up north reading. The article doesn't call for any restriction on the second amendment.
  2. Just for the record, I wasn't the one that put the pic of Kermit's green appendage. You know what would be funny? If next to our names along with number of posts, etc... they put up the number of folks that have blocked us and the number of folks we have blocked.
  3. For my personal safety, I wouldn't sell a gun to some who put a first post like that.
  4. I will have no problem with them if they keep selling ammo and take centerfire repeaters off their website and shelves for a couple of weeks. We are their only customer demographic and it looks like they are trying to stay out of controversy until the dust settles. Can't blame them for that.
  5. A reasonably likely explanation is that someone realized how much they would piss people off that are a good demographic for them. I remember that a few years ago Porsche hired a veteran from American car companies and put him in charge of sales. He did what American car companies do, which is slash prices to move cars. The German CEO found out about this and fired him on the spot. No discussion, no nothing.
  6. I agree with Garufa. Also, the guy at the pawn shop isn't going to help you. Just to clarify, you didn't pay for the gun, you are just out the $10 for the background check, correct? I wouldn't deal with the pawn shop again if all you are out of is $10
  7. Glad you are here.

    Ok Sig

I totally agree with this. Their tried and true guns are hard to beat. I've come to realize that they are now willing to put their name on a piece of crap and will do so in short order.
  9. There are no semi auto rifles on their website other than .22 LR and 17HMR
  10. This gives police power they shouldn't have. Listening to the officer try and justify this power, he said they were targeting drug dealers and not everyday people and they would give the money back if they can prove it isn't drug related. That has very high potential for abuse.
  11. Welcome
  12. I'm glad that weeks like that happen very rarely. My last event along these lines resulted in a dislocated shoulder due to my anger and frustration.
  13. The allies suffered far fewer casualties than expected. Two big reasons: We fooled them into thinking we were going to invade elsewhere. Allies put up a massive force of inflatable tanks, planes etc... We had a double agent in France, who convinced the Germans that the invasion would not be Normandy. That was the worst weather in years that summer. The Allies had weather stations in the North Atlantic and toward the US that the Germans didn't have access to. Because of this we knew there would be a lull in the bad weather, which is why Eisenhauer made the call. Rommel was back home celebrating his wife's Bday as he didn't think we could land. The Germans didn't believe their own troops when they radio'd that the invasion was happening. Omaha Beach had the worst casualties, about 2000. The death rate was 50-50 for the first wave of soldiers, after that it wasn't too bad. Contrast that with the battle for Stalingrad, where the average death rate was 12,000 soldiers per day - and that was a six month battle. Unrelated to D-Day, one of the most dangerous jobs for Americans was being on a bomber crew flying from England to Germany. 70% death rate for our guys in that role.
  14. Here's my thinking. There is no reason to buy anything specifically because of Orlando. There has been discussion on TGO for a week or two that this is the time to stock up. Orlando will pass, but based on the folks making the comments over the past week or so now is a good time, which is why I ordered 1,k rounds of 223 earlier.
  15. Well, we just finished a big debate on the Orlando thread and I'm debated out for the day.
  16. Saying that Kasich and Hillary are the same is a stretch - and I mean the Silly Puddy and Gumby kind of stretch. Laying that aside for a moment, who do you want?
  17. Because, when he was in the race he was the only Republican candidate that polls showed could beat her. Also keep in mind that winning the nomination and winning the election are two very different things. It usually takes more than the support of those that support a candidate for the nomination to win the election.
  18. I agree with Dave. The mentioned other weapons, but let's take the AK 47. They could buy them somewhere in the world for $250-$300 dollars. They'll wind up with a US contract paying $5,000 a piece for them. Remember when the Marines brought back the 1911? Those cost $5,000 per gun.
  19. Trump has shown himself to be unfit to be President and he has thoroughly screwed those of us he is supposed to represent. While he is unfit, he isn't as unfit as Diabolical SheDevil. I'll vote for him over her. Having said that, I'm hoping the convention will dump him and put Kasich on the ticket. I'm a Rubio guy, though Kasich is who I think can beat her. I think the chances of Trump beating SheDevil are very low. One more outburst like the one over the judge and it will be over.
  20. Yeah, that ransomware is evil, and the only way you can recover is to restore a version in most cases. Also, I agree with Rod Myers about ditching Windows. Yes, other platforms can certainly be hit. Having said that, the entry point for the most valuable data and money is on Windows computers, so they are attacked so much more than the others. Hats off to Sam1 for mentioning the only definite way to be safe!
  21. I've had this happen several times both on the older and new platform. I got to the point that if I have a post that is more than a short paragraph I open Text Edit and type it there so that I'll still have it if needed.
  22. All I can say about the San Francisco Court is shown in the title of the following articles. "California lawmakers try to extend ObamaCare to illegal immigrants" http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/06/06/california-lawmakers-try-to-extend-obamacare-to-illegal-immigrants.html "3rd time a charm? San Francisco to try yet again to give illegal immigrants voting rights" http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2016/06/08/3rd-time-charm-san-francisco-to-try-yet-again-to-give-illegal-immigrants-voting-rights.html
  23. I don't think the guys I meant this for are using Linux boxes. There are really nice web based tools that will generate the password, save it, remind you to change the password, automatically change the password and more. My thinking was to share a few things that folks would hopefully do.
  24. Guys, these are all good points that you make. I was trying to stick to just a few basic things to do. My post was meant more for the older guys who may not have ever used a computer at work. Heck, I'm a fine, strapping young man and didn't use a computer at work until I was in my 30s.
  25. I saw a post not long ago that reminded me that we have different levels of knowledge around computer security. Rather than put a long list of things, I think that a few small things can make a big difference. 1. Use two step authentication on any websites that offer it. When you go to login you are asked for a code. They either text the code or allow you to get a code off of an app on your phone. 2. Do not click on links in emails unless you know the person or source. This is a big way that they get you. People just can't resist clicking those links and the bad guys know that. No, the wind did not blow Britney Spears bikini top off. Don't click on the link to see the pics. 3. Get setup with all bank accounts and credit cards to get a notification whenever there is a charge. I get mine via email. This lets me catch anything very quickly. 4. Change passwords at least twice a year. Finally a note on passwords. Simple passwords aren't a good idea, such as 'password', 123456, letmein, etc.... This little trick isn't the best way, but is better than a simple password. When married, we had a dog whom I called Schnoodles, mainly because it irritated my ex wife. Schnoodles isn't a real word, an easy way to make it into a better password is to use $chn0Od!3s1894. I will always remember that name, and can remember that $ is an S, 0 is an O, ! is a 1, etc.... 1894 is something I can remember because I love the Winchester 94. There are many things more powerful than some of these, but these are all pretty simple.
