Wow, I wish I had 21 year old eyes as I could shoot just fine regardless of the sights. I have a 1911 Govt Model with Trijicon H3 14's on the back ant a 15 on the front. The front sight is fine. This gun isn't a defense gun currently - I mainly shoot it at the range. I shoot at an indoor range. The light in the range hits the rear sights and gives off such a glare that I can't use the rear sights and front sight in conjunction. I would like to get some good sights in the reasonably priced range that will let me use this gun as a pleasure gun at the range. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Interestingly, I have the Sig NightSights on my Sig and don't have the same problem with them. The code on the Sig sights is MH3 AN.

Yes, the money spent on those giveaways is an expense against their revenue, which makes it tax deductible. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the big benefactors donates them. I got their black duffle not to long ago and use it all the time.

I'm having more and more concern about behavior by law enforcement. There are many wonderful law enforcement officers, several of whom have been nice to me when I got pulled over, ran out of gas, etc... My comments don't apply to them. I also recognize that LE doesn't pay that well and that they stress is very high. I see two primary issues: First, Abusers, who are always cowards, are drawn to jobs where they will have distinct power over others. LE is one of these types of jobs. Law enforcement is not doing a sufficient job in screening these people before hiring them and don't sufficiently hold them accountable for bad behavior. Next, humans need to be accountable for our actions as most will not hold themselves accountable. That's why we have bosses, law enforcement, government, voters, stock holders, etc.... Law enforcement leadership is not holding those within their organizations sufficiently accountable for their actions. As an example, in Habersham County, GA a law enforcement unit killed a young pastor with no criminal history in a drug raid. A jury gave his family a lot of money, though that money comes from the tax payers - not the ones that killed him. Same law enforcement unit a couple of years later. Goes to a house with a no knock warrant to do a drug bust. They throw a flash grenade through the front door into a baby's crib and horrendously injured the baby. Later that day the sheriff makes a statement that there was no way they could have known and would handle it the same way if they faced it again. He said they had no information that there were children there, yet the front yard was full of children's toys. The police claimed they had to use the grenade because something, which they claimed was the baby crib, was blocking the door. Yet the family had a picture of the crib and it was well away from the door. Besides, who would possibly block the front door with the baby's crib? Criminals might, but there were no criminals in the house when the bust occurred. This story illustrates my point that LE leadership fails to demand accountability. The multiple instances of things like this happening show that the lack of accountability is wide spread. Within the past week they caught a detective being verbally abusive and racist toward a driver who had done nothing wrong. Someone in the back seat recorded it. Employees at a company that behaved that way would be fired on the spot in most cases. This guy gets reassigned. Negative behavior won't change until enough upstanding citizens call out this unacceptable behavior to force change.

I was going to add a tagline, "Just like a Sig, only uglier" - though thought better of it.

It's always a pleasure to share my very, very funny humor with others !!!!!!!!!!!!

Murders increase in Chicago. Not only do the police blame gun laws, they blame gun laws from other states. Obviously, this is political BS. I was happy to see that many of the comments called them out. USA Today shouldn't be printing crap like this. http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/2015/04/01/chicago-murders-shootings/70787110/

There is a gun store called The Outpost on the other side of Mufreesboro. I've never been there, but understand that they have every type of gun under the sun there. The person telling me about it said it would be like being a kid on Christmas for me. I haven't been there, maybe some other folks have.

If you can pull it off, Sportsman's Outdoor Warehouse has the model I got for $749, free shipping. This is the extreme model - has their special STR trigger, nice Hogue grips. I would say they have all night sights, though I'm a bit confused about that at the present moment.

What are the different types of night sights that will glow all night? I know about the tritium tube sights. Are there any other ones - meaning ones that glow all night rather than a short period? Any help would be appreciated. Many thanks, Pete

I just got a Sig P226 Extreme. I love this gun. Check out the pics. I had a great time at the range today. Check pics of the targets. The Sig target had 100 rounds into it. The .45 had 50 rounds. The IDPA target was primarily double action / single action double taps as fast as I could draw and shoot. OK, so I did shoot my neighbor in the leg, but the most important thing is that I'm ok. :pleased: Sigs are great guns that I can intuitively shoot to my satisfaction. Most enjoyable shot today: Knocking off a hanging piece of red with my .45. Most frustrating part of the day: Taking about 30 shots at the top piece of red on the Sig target and never getting it off. What a great day. I mainly shoot at Nashville Armory. They are about to go live with one of those state of the art training systems like the police and military use. I guess it's a video game type deal - not sure how those work. Here is a link to the pics: http://s300.photobucket.com/user/pete2041/library/Sig%20P226

Wow, I'm pretty sure that Bud's had ten in stock when I looked at their site this morning at 5:30am. In any case, they are gone now.

I posted this elsewhere, but wanted you all to see it: I may be making an error here, so you need to verify. The only VP9 magazines I have seen in the past week are $200. Bud's has P30 magazines for $37.17. An internet search came across a site showing that those would work with a VP9. http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/product_info.php/products_id/713072447/HK+MAGAZINE+P30+9MM+LUGER+15+RD If all of this is correct, this is a deal you don't want to miss.

Gents, I have one posted in the classifieds. There are pics if you want to see them.

Some of the responses to CommsNBombs come across to me as being needlessly harsh. All of us lose our tempers and all of us make mistakes. In this case, CommsNBombs situation provides a learning opportunity for him and for the rest of us. Massad Ayoob has some great videos which are no charge that are worth watching. He is one of the most knowledgeable people about shootings Some of the points I took from watching him: 1. Being a willing participant in conflict that leads to shooting can cause a world of hurt. Having the ability to take someone's life creates great responsibility, part of which is to do everything possible to avoid the need for a gun. This sounds like he was a willing participant. 2. Shooting someone, even if it is completely justified, can bankrupt the shooter. Again, avoiding is the way to go if possible. 3. According to Ayoob, a completely justified shooter stands about 90% chance of acquittal. You never know what kind of jury you'll have. Of course, the odds decrease as more factors are involved, with being an active participant being a biggie. 4. You never know what you'll get in a district attorney and a jury. I was on a jury where the state had absolutely no case whatever. We found the guy not guilty in about a minute. That guy paid a lawyer, who was very well prepared, to be in court for a day and a half. No telling how much that cost him when the accusation was that he wadded up a piece of paper and threw it in someone's face. 5. I would absolutely shoot someone if there were no other choice, though I will do whatever I can to avoid it. 6. I will have to live with myself if I shoot someone. I want to know that I didn't have any other choice. Again, we all make mistakes and this situation provides a great learning opportunity. Having said all this, I will also say that Hank Williams Jr's song, "I'd like to knock the Hell out of you" matches how I feel on a frequent basis.

That thing is really cool. I'd love to have one.

Great Deal from Sportsman's Outdoor Super Store. P226 Extreme for $749.94. New. Some of them are 10 round guns, make sure you don't get one of those unless that's what you want. http://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/category.cfm/CurrentPage/1/sportsman/semi-auto-handguns/brand/SIG-SAUER Also, in support of a TGO sponsor, Bud's has great pricing on the Sig MK25 - the Navy Seal model. Not as aggressive as the extreme, but still great pricing

HLB14, I'm with you on the HK guns. There will be an HK with a hammer in my future. I'll tell you, I've always been a John Browning fan. Having said that, HK and Sig are changing my mind.

VP9 Review I have always owned and shot guns made of steel, this was a new experience for me. This one was chosen over competitors due to the trigger and consistent positive reviews, including being Guns & Ammo’s 2014 Handgun of the Year. Being new to striker fired pistols, I didn’t like this gun in the beginning, though have worked through them and now love it. I shoot a lot and 9mm ammo is inexpensive. Here is what I really like about this gun: · It is really sharp and badass looking. This is the pistol I would choose if I were going to be in an action movie. · I trust this gun for self-defense. · The grips were designed to let the shooter easily customize them to his hand. It comes with three back straps and side panels – allowing dozens of ways to change the grip. · Maintenance is easy. Standard cleaning is the same as any filed stripped gun. Major maintenance is to field strip the gun, rinse or immerse into solvent, scrub with a nylon brush and dry with compressed air or a rag and cotton swabs · I like the sights. The gun is very accurate. Re-acquiring the target for a fast double tap is easy. I can accurately double tap with this gun much faster than my .40 or .45. · The gun is completely ambidextrous and I’m left handed. · The magazine release can be used from either side. Here are areas I don’t like as much: · I like the 1911 style grip rather than the luger style. I still don’t have it the way I really want it. · I have problems with all my guns from not wracking them or inserting the magazine with enough force. It seems worse with this gun. I view this as a training issue for me rather than a problem with the gun as I handle a lot of electronics where a soft touch is required. · The ambi slide release on the right side is several inches long. Gripping the gun where your fingers are on top of the right side release will prevent the slide from locking back after the last round. I consider this a design flaw, especially for a defensive handgun. · The VP9’s trigger pull is almost twenty percent heavier than a single action pistol. The gun is also very light, which allows it to move more if your trigger pull isn’t solid. This was causing accuracy problems until I recognized this and adjusted my trigger pull. (The accuracy was not a problem from a self-defense perspective. Part of my enjoyment of pistols when not training for defense is to put many bullets through one hole on the target.) Hopefully, this will generate useful and fun comments!

I'm trying to think of a better way to get shot....and it just isn't coming to me.

Wileecoyotee, Your post is excellent. Question: Are night sights that big a deal in your experience? Also, you referenced night sights in the $50-$80 range. Can you share a couple of examples? It sounds like you just purchased a couple of sigs, so you may be set. Having said that, CDNN currently has a .357 Sig, DAK, $400-$420 range, though they have rails. I cut my teeth on single action or DA / SA pistols. I have an HK VP9 and am having a hard time getting used to the trigger.

I just bought two of the Israeli trade-ins. Here is my experience. The first one was $400. It's and FNH Browning Hi Power. This one will need some work for me to really enjoy it. It has the little military sights which I can't see. The trigger will need work to be enjoyable. The magazine release really hampers the trigger, though in this litigious society, I don't want to disable it. I'll say one thing though, nothing feels as good in my hand as a Browning Hi Power. I'm hoping the gunsmith charges for polishing and installing sights will be reasonable. The gun has definitely been used, though it is very solid. The second one was $200 and was advertised as a fake FEG Hi Power. The slide in and FNH. I suppose the frame is an FEG, though I don't know for sure. The serial numbers on the slide and frame don't match, though at $200 for a Hi Power you can't expect perfection. This gun might become my automobile self defense weapon - cheap enough so that I won't get bent out of shape if it is stolen. That was my thinking when I bought it. As it is, it won't cycle a clip of jacketed ammo without 2-3 jams. The throat looks pretty rough. I'll put a little money into it for throating and polishing to see what that does for it. If that works, I'll get sights. One final point. A previous post referred to the FN model as a Browning Hi Power variant, which I believe to be incorrect. My understanding is that John Browning died before completing the Hi Power. Dieudonné Saive completed the design at the FN factory in Belgium. I believe they have always been the only manufacturer of the true Browning Hi Power. I've tried to confirm this from Browning's website, though haven't found it. A Browning Hi Power purchased from Browning says that it's made in Belgium, I'll bet that is at the FN factory.
