Yeah, the guys from Charter were not happy campers. No telling how much money they lost - not just the guns, but their booth charge, etc...

One of the police was shot in the leg as he fought to maintain control of his gun . The police shot one of them and shot and killed another - looks like they didn't have a choice. That could have taken a different turn - with multiple dead officers. Funny that the perps were a family Christian band. It's like those people were on one of those illegal drugs where nothing stops them. Not tasers, not getting whacked in the head with a baton, not anything. It looks to me like the police showed much restraint.

I'll have to say, a bullet from the AR would be more deadly, though my eyes would be focused on the spear if I was facing the business end!!!

My fitbit pedometer measured 10,000 steps at 4.68 miles. I didn't walk any more than I needed. Probably not the day to show off those fancy cowboy boots if you are heavy, over age 45 or both.

"Badly damaged" sounds like the scope wasn't made to last and just broke - unrelated to anything you did.

I'm an iPhone guy - can't help there. Mobile phone providers are part of what I deal with at work, so I have good info. Looks like both of you are close to Oak Ridge. I would be very hesitant to change carriers if you have been happy with Verizon. They make me mad because they cost more, though they really are the best. Once you move below the two majors, Sprint and T-Mobile are the primary choices. I would go with T-Mobile over Sprint, but would only do that if most of my time was spent in Nashville, Memphis, Knoxville, Chattanooga or Tri Cities. Once you get out of those areas, they probability of good coverage goes down a lot. It may be that Oak Ridge is good with one of them, but I would want to hear it from several people who use them.

Not going to the show until tomorrow or Sunday? Here are tips I have: Note: your cell phone won't work in the facility - you have to go to a window or outside. 1. Be there as early as possible. As the day went on it was much more crowded and reps in the booths were tired and less helpful. 2. This is a great opportunity to get great info from the horses mouth of your favorite vendors. You can print a map at the following link: http://s15.a2zinc.net/clients/NRA/nraam2015/public/eventmap.aspx?ID=461&sortMenu=101000&shmode=E Pick out the vendors most important to you and go to them first. Have questions ready. For example: A Sig expert spent a lot of time helping me pick out what will be my first AR A Sig expert shared pistol handling techniques for left handers - very helpful A Springfield expert shared options for me with a glare problem I'm having with tritium sights. I told him I didn't want to replace the sights and that it was only a problem at the indoor shooting range. He told me about an aerosol spray that is effectively spray on chalk. That is exactly the type of solution I was looking for. 3. I walked by all booths to see what I might be surprised by. I wound up getting a laser training pistol for home practice. I got great input on a scope to use. 4. All the gun companies have shooting experts there. This would be a great time to get input on any trouble areas you have. 5. There wasn't much swag. Everyone had catalogs, so I stocked up on those. 6. The defensive shooting seminar with Rob Pincus was very good. He had a second seminar on home defense, though I missed it. 7. The NRA has a seminar on how not to be a victim. "Refuse to be a victim". It had excellent content, but was so boring I couldn't take it. They give you a manual on the way in at no cost, you may want one. 8. Most vendors have special pricing non-firearms on items at the show. 9. Parking, about $20. You can buy food and drink in the show. Trust me when I tell you that my cheap ass choaked on the prices.

The 1911 is a real beauty. Also, they are nice and heavy - a drawback if you carry it, but nice if you don't. I also love the grip. I don't know if the Glocks are more the 1911 style or the Luger style grips. I definitely prefer the 1911 style.

I would vote against a mil spec. Your budget will allow more than that. I'm a Springfield guy. I've had one for many years that is a tack driver. I recently got a Springfield 1911 loaded and love it even more. With current market pricing, the Springfield Loaded has models that are roughly $100 more than the Ruger. In my view they are worth it. Here is a good review on the Ruger, where a Ruger representative talks about how they approached this gun. http://www.gunsandammo.com/reviews/the-ruger-sr1911-review/ Here is the review that sold me on the Springfield. http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2010/03/brad-kozak/gun-review-springfield-loaded-1911-a1/ Both of these pistols are reasonably below the $800 price point you mentioned.

After watching the video closely, I can't see how the officer could reasonably fear for his life when the first shot was fired. With the information currently available the shooting doesn't look justified. It also looks like the officer may have used the "formula for acquittal" to frame the suspect. Claim he was attacked In fear of his life Plant a weapon to frame the suspect (You can't see exactly what the officer picked up and dropped next the the suspect, which I acknowledge. Though, what could he possibly have needed to pick up and drop next to the suspect.) Law enforcement leadership is failing both great officers and our society in my view. They aren't sufficiently screening new hires to ensure abusers aren't hired. Abusers, who are cowards at heart, are strongly attracted to jobs where they have power over others. They are also failing to hold abusers accountable for illegal and unacceptable behavior. The majority of officers, who have a very difficult job and try hard to do the right thing, are being painted by the negative brush - they deserve better.

That's really cool. The fact that it was made the year he was born and has been used only adds to it.

TN Gun Deaths exceed car deaths in 2013 ..... (right....)
Pete123 replied to R_Bert's topic in General Chat
They are lying via mis-applying statistics. It is true that there were more gun deaths than auto accident deaths. The way they are lying is by failing to mention that the great majority of firearms deaths are from suicide. There are many ways to commit suicide, so inferring that gun control would reduce the amount of suicide is a big lie. -
I really enjoyed the show as well. All of "The Ponderosa" folks are gone as well. We lost James Arness from Gunsmoke a few years ago.

I would definitely put this in the 100 best songs of all time. The Cranberries are an Irish band and this song calls the IRA out on their behavior. The IRA stopped their terrorist activity within a month or two of this songs release, causing many to feel that it had a big part in stopping terrorist activity.

The NRA did a great job with their website for the show. Here's the link: http://www.nraam.org/ There are tabs across the top that take you to everything. Also, it's buried down in the site, though this link has some awesome seminars, most of which are free: http://www.nraam.org/special-events/seminars,-workshops-special-presentations.aspx Make sure to check out the special events tab.

I used to think some of the safety rules were over the top until I took my concealed permit class. Our instructor was retired LE. The deal where the police shot the elevator - both the elevator and the locker rooms had plenty of accidental discharge dents. He also told us about one of his colleagues who was practicing dry firing at a tv show. He left and came back later. He was mindlessly watching tv as he reloaded his gun and went on to shoot the tv. Truth is this: we are all human and humans make mistakes. I live alone with a couple of pets. I keep ammo well away from the guns and only keep my self defense shotgun loaded in the house. Before getting my shotgun I used a VP9 for home defense. I kept it in a holster on my bed stand in case one of the critters somehow figured out a way to pull the trigger. Also, my hats off to the gent on this thread that shared about shooting himself - he took the risk of some jerk making nasty comments in order to encourage all of us to be more safe.

It wouldn't be so bad if they would come up with legitimate arguments.

Nice!

Here's the link I mentioned to the pics: http://s300.photobucket.com/user/pete2041/library/Guns/Springfield%20Loaded

Thank you David, and yes, that is the gun. Also, I'm about to send you a private message on an idea to add value to the TGO advertisers. I may have a few more questions on the sights.

ok, the UPC code is PX9109LP. The box says, ".45 STD Park 2/NS 11-Gs" Does that provide the info needed? If not, can you let me know how to determine which model? I'm about to take pics and upload to Photo Bucket and will post a link. Also, I can measure anything needed, just let me know what needs measuring. I really appreciate you two helping me.

It's the current model Springfield 1911 Loaded. No problem on asking questions. I need help and you need info to help me. Also, don't forget the 52 year old eyes.

Manufacturer is Springfield Armory
