  1. ya know, we are all sharing our opinions about the foxes, but the real question is: What does the fox say? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jofNR_WkoCE
  2. I have made comments on several of the recent LE threads where I made specific suggestions to address bad behavior from a minority of LE. After reading the initial comment in this thread, I tried to put myself in the shoes of LE on the forum. Here is what I have come up with. This forum is a great source of entertainment and learning from folks with a common interest. It is very enjoyable. It should be that way for LE as well. I believe my comments were solution oriented. I also have come to feel that TGO isn't the right place to share them. The TGO forum isn't a place to solve the worlds problems - it is a place for folks with common interests to enjoy their hobby. In light of that, I won't get involved with further LE threads. I'm a sales professional. Unfortunately, the majority of sales people exhibit bad behavior. I get plenty of crap because of this, though am glad it isn't commonly discussed in a forum where I come to relax and enjoy my hobby.
  3. Sweet, looks like it has good night sights also. I like the way Ruger did the beavertail safety. My new Springfield loaded has a place where it sticks out and I don't especially like it.
  4. Personally, I can't see a good reason to kill anything other than rattle snakes, brown recluse spiders or something I'm going to eat.

Regarding her dating, you can always be there when the boy comes to get her. Dress in camo and have camo face paint. Be there cleaning guns. Have them all laid out and let him know how specific ammo is designed to kill and maim. Follow that up with a casual comment about how you just got out of prison from where someone got the wrong idea with an older daughter.
  6. We haven't won. Federally, we are looking good, so they are going to states.
  7. It's been too long since I had a date with a woman - that rifle is looking might purty!
  8. Is it murder if you kill your mother in law and she had it coming?   :biglol:
  9.   Regarding your first point, I agree.  I prepare the best I can, defend myself if I have to, and hope for the best afterward.   Regarding your second point, I wouldn't want to get shot with bird shot.  Heck, I don't want to be shot with a pellet gun.   Thinking about bird shot made me think about the time Vice President Cheney shot another politician at a bird shoot.     It's bad enough being shot by someone in dire need of firearms safety training.  (Note:  I said that very nicely in respect of the position of VP of the US)  It had to really suck when the guy who was sprayed had to be a good political soldier and publicly take responsibility - saying it was his fault that he was shot.   :usa:
  10. I really like the way you all mentioned staying in the bedroom and only worrying about your safety as I haven't thought about it that way.   I try to think in terms of how to avoid shooting someone.   A topic which doesn't seem to be discussed much, is what a justified shooter goes through after the shooting.  It's pretty easy to have to go bankrupt defending a justified shooting.     Massad Ayoob says that about 10% of justified shooters wind up having the case, whether civil or criminal, go against them.  You just never know the biases, prejudices or intelligence of a jury.   Anyone who isn't training on how to deal with the police after a (hopefully) justified shooting is failing to train on one of the most important parts.
  11. You and I think exactly alike.  I have two 1911's.  The first is a Springfield mid 90's mil-spec.  By the time I got it the trigger, hammer and grips and been upgraded and I've always loved that gun.  I just got a new Springfield loaded for the exact reasons you listed.   Aside from the quality of the gun, I like Springfield's history, logo, customer service, and that they don't put a bunch of crap when rolling the engraving on the slide.   The Loaded I just purchased came with a right hand holster.  I called them, expecting to have to buy a left hand, and asked if I could trade.  They sent me a left hand for free, including shipping.
  12. I love the grips on that one.
  13. To me, most people would have an issue with paying a certain price, only to have the provider have a half price sale.   In the same spot, I would call the NRA, ask for the Lifetime upgrade based on $500.    Regarding the rest of the $500 in question, I would either set it aside and buy the next upgrade when they have a special or agree to send monthly contributions with the understanding that further monies apply to the next level when it is on sale.
  14. My hope is for this to be an interesting discussion rather than an argument along the lines of which calibre / ammo is best.   So, starting off with a question and a comment.   I have a Mossy 500, 8 shot, 40.5" for home defense  Would it be better to have a shorter gun?  If so, what would be the best option?  Pistol grip, shorter stock, etc...   Next, regarding ammo.  I did some online research. I drew the conclusion that 00 Buck would be best.  However, I live in an apartment and settled on number 4 Buck to reduce over penetration.    Unrelated to that, I read "Point Man" by James "Patches" Watson.  Most here will know of him, if not, he was a Seal in Vietnam during a time when they had missions about every other night.   I was a little surprised to learn that he carried a shotgun rather than a M16, Stoner or other machine gun.   I was really surprised to learn that he used #4 buckshot.  He didn't explain why he used #4 other than to say he used the shotgun with #4 because it immediately stopped the threat better than anything else he had access to.   It may be that #4 was his only choice or many other reasons.     Ultimately, he came up with devices that attached to the end of the shotgun that offered different kinds of buckshot spread based on the need.  I doubt there would be need for such a device for home use.   Anyway, we'll hopefully have great conversation with this topic.
  15. I can't find the thread, though someone asked for input not long ago on what to get for their first 1911.     In classic "Ford vs Chevy" style, there were responses all over the place.   So, if you were the one posing the question, what did you finally decide on?
  16.   Randall,   I'll part ways with my old mac if you want it.  I'm not sure what it is worth, but it probably be less than a new pc.    Whether it is a good fit for you depends on how you use it.  For work, cruising the net, etc.... it is fine.   The reason I got a new one is that there is some liquid damage to the screen.  I didn't really notice it when using is specifically for the purposes listed above.     However, one of my hobbies is laying on my duff and watching full screen movies on Netflix.  At that point, the water damage became an irritation.   Let me know if you have interest and I'll get all the relevant info and figure out a price.  I'm in Nashville, so we would need to meet at Mt. Eagle or Manchester to do the deal.   Finally, you may not be a computer person.  If not, I'll post it on the classifieds, with you having first right of refusal, so some of the techies comment on it.
  17. A CZ75 is on my wish list directly after an AR and would be next on the list if I didn't already have some nice 9mm's.     I've heard someone refer to the CZ75 as the Browning Hi Power done correctly, and that's true as far as I can tell.
  18. I've really had a hard time getting used to iPads.  I have a new macbook Pro that is just about as easy to carry - might part ways w the iPad.
  19. Welcome!  Old school safety razors - definitely hard core.
  20. I've been putting off getting my carry permit because the lines are so loooooooooooooong.     I accidentally came across a great solution.  Here in middle TN, the Franklin and Centennial drivers license locations have a deal where you can get in line via text or calling from your mobile and they'll let you know when your time is coming up.   I walked right in, went to the front of the line and was out of there in no time.   It told me the wait would be five hours when it turned out to be about two hours, but was still great.
  21.   I don't think so.  Remember, this was twenty years ago.  As best I recall a small amount of the black stuff isn't a big deal, so they left it.   If you decide to have your home inspected, the inspector will have input on what to do.
  22. Ok, so here is a suggestion as well as what we did.   I believe in having a home inspected before before putting it on the market so you don't get caught flat footed a week or two before closing.  I would ask the inspector to leave some things out of the written report so you can leave a couple of things for the buyer's inspector to find - gotta justify their cost you know.   The house I sold had whatever is on your floor joists.  I had an experienced realtor.  Here is how he handled it:   1. Got his handyman to put relatively thick plastic down over most of the part under the house.  There are some do's and don'ts with this - it has been twenty years so I don't remember everything.  As best I recall, everything was covered other than a foot or so around the foundation and foundation supports.   He put rocks or bricks along the plastic seams to keep things in place. 2. Some of the vents weren't clear and open.  He got his guy to clear any obstacles and open all of the vents completely. 3. There was water under that home when we had heavy rain.  So he had his guy put in a sump pump. 4. The realtor addressed this proactively - he told the other realtor up front and explained what we did to address it.  The old, "let them know potential bad news rather than let them discover it and freak out"   Hope this helps!
  23. Don't worry - I have faced this exact situation and it wasn't a big deal.  I post again later and tell you how we handled it.
  24. PM sent
  25. Nice!   You can't go wrong with a Sig.
